Well, recently i'm attracted to Kimi no Shiranai monogatari :D
theme song for Bakemonogatari anime,it's pretty good i would say..

Oh,and Hi all..^^

oh, how come I never posted here

evangelion, of course

then, cowboy bebop - sharing 1st place

recently, I started watching darker then black - and I really like song at the ending

I'd have to go with 草原のマルコ (Sougen No Marco) performed by 大杉久美子 (Kumiko Oosugi)
It's the opening theme song from the series, (Haha Wo Tazunete Sanzen-ri). The lyric describes a young Italian boy from Genoa, Marco, waking up to another day of lonesome journey through the flat plains of Peru/Ecuador (can't remember exactly where...but it is somewhere in the south america) in search of his long lost mother who had left home to work in Argentina to provide for her family back home. The music is heavily influenced by the folk music of the south america with a very effective use of the traditional instruments. A GREAT song.
The series has been made into a couple of feature-length movies and maybe available on DVD outside Japan. The original series is the best, though. The animation is beautifully drawn with art direction by none other than pre-Nausicaa Hayao Miyazaki.
The song really captures the spirit of this wonderful series that I used to love as a child (and still do).

Really a beautiful song... many of the songs of that time are trully memorable...

I want to see the video while reading the lirics... I put my best transliteration ( I put not my translation, since I am a benginner, and I am shy :( ).

I think this link to the video still works:

"Haruka soogen o,
hito-tsukami no kumo ga,
atemonaku samayoi tonde yuku".

"Yama mo naku, tani mo naku,
nanimo mie wa shinai."

"Keredo Maruko, omae wa kita n da,
Andesu ni tsudzuku kono michi o."

"Saa shuppatsu da, ima hi ga noboru,
kiboo no hikari ryote ni tsukami"

"Poncho ni yoake no kaze haramasete,
kaasan no iru ano sora no shita,
haruka-na kita o mezase".

Personally, I have a few theme songs that are capable of deeply move me:
"THE SUN DOESN'T DIE"
FROM "ARCADIA OF MY YOUTH"
(Captain Harlock)

"Yoru ga tsudzuitemo taiyoo wa shinanai".

"Yami no sono hate de, moe-tsudzuketeru"

"Kao o agete, tomoyo, mi-ageyoo yoake o"

"Mada minu tomoyo, ashita wa kitto kuru".

"Kootta daichi no naka dewa, hisoyaka ni
hana no inochi ga iki-tsudzuketeru.".

"Nakusanaide tomoyo kiboo no tane o

(I guess you have the idea of the transliteration)

"Princess Mononoke"

Harisumeta yumi no furueru tsuru yo
Tsuki no hikari ni zawameku omae no kokoro
togisumasareta yaiba no utsukushii
sono kissaki ni yoku nita sonata no yokogao

Kanashimi to ikari ni hisomu
makoto no kokoro o shiru wa mori no sei
mononoke-tachi dake
mononoke-tachi dake

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Direct translation to English:

The trembling bowstring of a drawn bow
Pounding in the moonlight, your heart
The beauty of a sharpened blade
Thy profile looks very much like that sword point.

Lurking in the sadness and anger
The only ones who know your true heart are the forest spirits
Only the spirits,
only the spirits...

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

There is another version in Inglish, but this is not a direct translation, but an adaptation:

In the moonlight I felt your heart
Quiver like a bowstring's pulse
In the moon's pure light, you looked at me
Nobody knows your heart

When the sun is gone I see you
Beautiful and haunting, but cold
Like the blade of a knife, so sharp and so sweet
Nobody knows your heart

All of your sorrow, grief and pain
Locked away in the forest of the night
Your secret heart belongs to the world
Of the things that sigh in the dark
Oh the things that cry in the dark

Tiger Mask reminded me of my childhood favorite.

Jungle Emperor (Janguru Taitei, resembling a Disney film very much in my personal opinion) was a series by Tezuka Osamu I watched mostly for the ending song more than the story... 😌 It sounded very sophisticated then, when many anime songs at that time were just ditties.

This one, along with the opening song and soundtrack, was composed by now famous composer and Grammy nominee Isao Tomita.

Here is a comparison of the two works and it is clear that Disney copied much of the work of Tezuka. Really, no shame when they copied that without paying some rights to Tezuka.

Well, yes (I hope you are not including here W3 😌 )

And remember that it was also the first anime series in color. They put a lot of love in this series.

This one, along with the opening song and soundtrack, was composed by now famous composer and Grammy nominee Isao Tomita.

Unfortunately, I don't know why at that time it was very common that when a japanese series went international, in many countries they "shortened" the OP/ED and they put their own music or/and song, not always with much effort. It didn't happened all the time, but I think that was a mistake. Fortunately they don't do that any more.

Here is for example the OP that they had in Germany. And when it is not as good as the Japanese OP, at least they took the effort to assemble good singers and music. The OP in English or Spanish, didn't had so much luck in my opinion.

Kimba, Kimba, ...

However, sometimes the change is interesting. Here is the original intro of "Sherlock Holmes" in Japanese, which I think is OK...

When it went to Spain, they tried to create something that went more with all the action showed in the OP, and I think they created also something interesting...

Well, finally I found the lyrics of "Reo no Uta". This is a version slighly different from that of the series and have less sound effects... still very beutiful.

Well, and since we speak about Anime that went international, this was a joint venture Japan-Spain (1981). I think it is was not well know outside Spain. But I liked the opening very much.

Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds - Wikipedia

Here is a comparison of the two works and it is clear that Disney copied much of the work of Tezuka. Really, no shame when they copied that without paying some rights to Tezuka.
Well, when Lion King came out, there was a lot of debate in the Japanese media and among Tezuka Osamu fans that the Tezuka Osamu production company should claim copyright and sue Disney. However, Mr. Tezuka (who had passed away by that time) had very often mentioned in his lifetime that his inspiration for anime came from watching Disney films such as Snow White and Bambi and learned animation techniques from Disney. To him, Walt Disney was a mentor and hero. That is the reason why the company decided to respect Mr. Tezuka's admiration of Disnay and accept Lion King graciously as recognition that Disney bestowed toward Mr. Tezuka and his achievements in animation.

Unfortunately, I don't know why at that time it was very common that when a japanese series went international, in many countries they "shortened" the OP/ED and they put their own music or/and song, not always with much effort. Japanese anime in the old days were regarded second-rate "filler" programs catering to small kids that foreign broadcasters can buy cheaply. This preconception led to many countries editing the anime as they pleased, replacing or cutting out music, etc. The Japanese side had no qualms about such action, because they didn't feel they were up to par with Disney. In fact, Japanese animes then were deliberately produced at reduced frames per second vis-a-vis Disney in order to cut time and cost of production.

Regarding the Jungle Emperor music, the version you posted is the version that had been rerecorded for release as soundtrack record. Many Japanese fans prefer the original music accompanying the program rather than the recorded version.

Hello again, @epigene, I see that you just changed your Avatar. That 猫 looks nice.

OK... in reality both Tezuka and Disney are really heroes in Animation. Now, we can say Japan have become really the capital of Animation in the world. Although the USA continues to produce high-quality animation movies from time to time with Disney, Don Bluth, Pixar, etcetera... the volume of quality animation in Japan has completedly overshadowed USA television animation nowadays... and I think this is related with the superior vision of market segments, by gender and age, etcetera, that the Japanese animation has.

Returning to Osamu Tezuka, just yesterday I found this documentary in Japanese.

well, I do not understand spoken japanese (I just "read it", but very, very slowly), but I think that sometimes you could tell something is interesting and deep, even if you personally could not fully appreciate it.

I think you and some users of this forum, could fully appreciate it.

Regards.

My favourites are:

1) Broken Youth by Nico Touches The Walls (for Naruto Shippuden) - This song is amazing and it suits the ending video that it is with :)

2) Rocks by Hound Dog (for Naruto) - This song is epic!!! Whenever I hear it I have to sing and dance to it (and ending up looking like a major baka in the process)

3) Dondake! Gintaman by Ko-saku (for Gintama) - Hahahahhaha this song is hilarious! Me and my sister love episode 100 of Gintama for this song matches that episode perfectly :D

My Favourites:

Naruto Shippuden-Hero's Comeback
Full Metal Alchemist - Melissa
DeathNote-NIGHTMARE the world
Bleach-Rolling star

My favorites would be:

~ Hajimari no Kaze [Saiunkoku Monogatari]
~ Sousei no Aquarion/Genesis of Aquarion [Sousei no Aquarion]
~ Izayoi Namida [Hakuouki]
~ Kimi no Kioku [Hakuouki]

And a lot more :D
