I'm sure this topic may already have been covered in a previous thread, but, just for laughs, let's rap about it here. Sure, the heroes get all the press and are loved to death, but a hero is only as good as the bad guy he/she fights against, so let's give some mad props to the best bad guys in anime.
I'll start off with Nakago from Fushigi Yugi. Tall, blond and brooding, Nakago's the king of the schemers, not to mention a powerful and sadistic bad guy as he plotted to destroy Miaka and the Suzaku Seven and conquer the world within the book of the Universe of the Four Gods. He used mind games to corrupt Miaka's best friend Yui into becoming Priestess of Seiryu, used his fellow Seiryu warriors for cannon fodder, and made life a living hell for his arch nemesis, Tamahome. And near the end of the series when Nakago emerged from the book and into modern day Tokyo and used his powers to wreck the city, it was one of the more gripping sequences I had ever seen in an anime series.
I'm sure there are other memorable bad guys in anime, but Nakago tops my list. Okay, now it's your turn! Who's your number one villain?
