Samurai-Champloo (Funny cross between Samurai and Rap)
Paprika (Great GFX)
Black Jack(The author Tezuka is God!)
Gintama (Story begins where Samurai era came to the end as Aliens arrived)
Death Note (Complex story line)
Pato-Labor (Movie is cool, TV is so so..)
Tokyo Godfathers (3 Tokyo homeless' search out abandoned baby's Mom. Quite Heart Warming...)
For those of you who loves Akira, there are several anime made by Mr. Otomo, the producer. Al tho., me think Ghost in the Shell series have surpassed Akira...

Rojin Z
Sprigun or Su pu ri gan
Memories
Metropolice
Steamboy
Freedom

Rojin Z is the movie about the automated senior assistance Robot/Bed goes wild
assimilating the machines around it..., like that of Akira's Tetsuo-Octopus did...
Freedom is said to have Akira like atmosphere, but not nearly as good...

My favourite has got to be D.Gray Man!~ It rocks!!! Night Wizard ANIMATION and Rental Magica is growing on me x] last but not least, Kaze no Stigma. One word for it - awesome

Too many. hmmm.
Akira and GitS are classics.
I watched Metropolis like 8 times in the first 2 weeks I bought it. Maybe partially because of the soundtrack? (Those last two have amazing music as well. The only two I have the music for)
Sticking with music the series Cowboy Bepop also has great music.

Maybe Dragon Half.

Gosh I miss the 90s when I could afford the money and time to buy or rent everything available in my area.

No WAIT.
Battle Angel.
And if they redid this one it would probably ruin it because the art style just so fits.

Series: GRAVITATION (such a stunning piece of work)
Movie: Spirited Away or Gravitation OVA.

However I am quite new to Anime so really appreciate this thread it has given me lots of ideas for things to try out

The second OVA,tsuiokuhen, I would call a masterpiece, but the first I thought was terrible and completely inaccurate. I just pretend like it never happened and that kenshin and kaoru still shared there weird relationship like in the manga.

Full metal alchemist is the best anime

but i prefer manga more

Hellsing.
I love it. Alucard is the best and I love vampires~ And I mean Hellsing OVA. And I like also One Piece. It's so funny! And Naruto (but only because there is Kakashi)
