Do you prefer anime dubbed or subbed?

Strike Witches has magical military loli warriors who have animal ears and wear no pants so their "pantsu" are plenty visible at all times.

Now I'd like to see an American cartoon with some heavily shaded, big eyed, small mouthed, gun toting, magic wielding lolis from world war two who have animal ears and wear military vests and exposed panties.

Other than the advantage of learning the language, I don't see any point of preferring subtitles. If you ask any kid about this question, the answer becomes obvious. They can enjoy watching amine dubbed. I myself enjoyed watching American cartoons dubbed in Japanese.

Well I don't what kids you're talking about, but I've encountered some 12 year olds who prefer subs.

And yes, due to me liking to hear Japanese, I would prefer to hear American cartoons in Japanese dub. Though I don't really like watching American cartoons.

Japanese language is at least a good percentage of why I watch anime.

Yesterday I was trying to find the Full Metal Alchemist movie but only could find it raped with English dubs and even those didn't load..

First time in a year I really want to watch some anime and I can't even get it!

That's right, the biggest question in the anime scene: Do you prefer your anime subbed or dubbed?
I don't mind either one. If it's the first time I've seen something, I prefer to watch it dubbed, since I suck at multi-tasking and I'm gonna miss something cool by reading. If circumstances don't allow, however, that's fine.
It's anime! I enjoy it any way I can get it.

I prefer subbed mostly as most dubbed don't fit the characters except in the case of a few particular animes *coughs* fruits basket ^-^ plus I enjoy listening to japanese I think I'm laerning something... I think haha

Yep. My two sons are 13 and 10, and both enjoy watching SonicX, Kirby, and other such cartoons subbed. They prefer it that way, which did suprise me at first, I'll admit.

Dub version: Some of the dubbings sound real way off. And, it's like always that few voices.
Sub version: Better to listen to the original. The seiyuus do cool jobs for the Japanese version.

Darn it. It's almost 6am and I accidentally voted Dub when I meant to vote Sub. Anyways, yeah I HATE Dubs..can't stand them. I love Subtitles. Dubs wouldn't be so terrible if they didn't ruin everything with crappy voice acting + American censorship, but unfortunately they do.

Also, there are probably a million times more Japanese animation films and series than there are in English speaking countries, so the Japanese voice actors probably just have a lot more experience.

Yes, I agree that there is good 4 decades old tradition of 'raising' seiyuu.
If you listen to dubs and originals, it becomes obvious that the Japanese seiyuu have a WAY larger vocal range and array of sounds.
Just take Casshern Sins as an example. The sound Casshern made before killing Luna was simply a demonstration of the genius Touru Furuya. But let us not forget Rie Kugiyama the zomg tsundere master.

haha kugiyama rie.. although I like her performance as toko in maria sama and iorin in idolm@ster game, I don't like how they casted her in all the similar tsundere loli roles (shana, nagi (hayate no gotoku), louise (zero no tsukaima), yuuhi (akane iro), taiga (toradora), etc) that others could also do a loveable job in, for example, ho-chan as asakura yume (da capo II)... it kinda made me bored of her .. "ah.. it's kugimiya again.. damn..", kind of feeling.

For myself I prefer subs. Not only does it help with learning the language, but I prefer to see something as close as possible to the original.

Also, I've never been able to compare an anime both ways but I have done with some kaijuu movies. Usually I thought the dubbed versions really suffered, feeling silly in ways the original didn't.

Grapefruit's point on dubs being kid-friendly is a good one though. A while back I was really excited to find a Japanese version of a Czech movie called Baron Prásil that I loved as a kid. I was thinking of it as a present for a Japanese boy I know, but when I was able to verify that it was subbed rather than dubbed decided it wasn't worth it.

Dubs tend to kill anime for me, I much prefer to watch subtitled or even raw (even though i barely understand any japanese) over dubbed, the acting is much better, it helps me to learn japanese and I find english an ugly language to listen to and wish my native tounge was even even french or Italian (preferably japanese though) over english
