I am not much of an anime freak, but I do watch now and then on cabel here in the US and I much prefer it to be in the original Japanese. If it is dubbed I instanty change the channel much as I do with dubbed foreign movies in Japan and along with dubbed Japanese and foreign movies in the US. There's nothing like the original to get the true feelings whether you understand the language or not. Having subtitles makes it easier to understand the flow of the movie or anime if one is not fluent in a particular language.

Anime to me is like what cartoons are to normall people, I grew up with it.
I don't watch it THAT often but when I do... I HATE to watch dubbed anime, I can't...watch it wwww.
I only watch Anime that is original Japanese or subbed.

i would prefer subbed and i really love it when the translators dont transate things like ''baka''or ''kawaii''.it makes it really graphic in my opinion!!i dont like english dub cause when the characters are calling someone with his (japanese)name it sounds weird.dont you think?

I don't understand Japanese yet, I'm still a beginner, but watching dubbed anime just kinda defeats the purpose for me. I like anime for a number of reasons, but one of the more important ones is that it's essentially a Japanese creation (well the ones I watch are >_>) and the characters, being Japanese, really should be speaking Japanese! Plus, I'm of the opinion that listening to Japanese being spoken and kinda...how should I say this...getting used to the sound of it, makes it just that bit easier to learn the language yourself...which I think is a bonus. But I have nothing against people who do like anime dubbed! *cowers under desk* It's a matter of opinion, after all.

I prefer subbed due to lack of good voice actors as well as the huge amounts of editing from the original that takes place when it is ported to a different country.

i prefer subbed

i prefer subbed anime rather than dubbed....
sometimes dubbed anime lacks the intensity of the original one...
and its always good to listen to japanese dialogues...:D

I don't particularly mind watching anime with dubbing, but I find the dubbing just, I can't say why, just inappropriate. Therefore, while I speak reasonable Japanese I prefer anime with subtitles (issues of speed, slang, etc)

Original Jap version but with subtitles.
Nothing beats listening to the Jap conversation!

let's avoid using "jap". 🙂
I just prefer to listen to the original soundtrack of any work, not limited to anime.
The voice, along with the personalities, the appearance, and the anecdotes of a character forms the whole picture of the character as the author/director intends to create.
The characters as envisioned by the author would be therefore be more accurately portrayed with the originally voice.

Although you may prefer the dubbed voice of a character - is that character truly the author's intention? Are we trying to embrace the japanese culture or simply imposing our culture on their works?

Sure, it works great with the general foreign audience to have the characters changed to match the local flavors/stereotypes, but I'm the type that prefers to watch the show per its original intentions..
Imagine jim carrey being dubbed by the japanese like a rakugo...

cheers.

It has to be subbed for me, As I love the japanese language. Listening to it adds to the enjoyment of the movie\show I am watching.

Also, I like to hear the original voices.

Both. Depends on the dub/sub.

For shows like Naruto or Bleach anything touched by the ungoldy hand of 4 Kids I wont watch anything but the subs. Basically anything that the studios wanted to make a quick buck on and cash in on the kid audience is crap. "Believe it", it sucks.
However, shows like Death Note and Trigun and even Inuyasha I wont watch anything but the dubbed version. For various reasons, Triguns dubs seemed to capture the Wild West feel better than the Japanese version, DN just had some great VAs and even some uniquely English humour that I couldn't help but love (ie. "I can't live in a world without Light." "Yes, that would be dark."), and Inuyasha just had way more personality and the Japanese Kagome bugged me.

Depends on the show and how much effort went into the dubs. Given the choice between two equally good subs/dubs tho, I'd have to say dub, just because subtitles can be very distracting at times and I'd rather watch a show than read it.

I definitely like subbed better. Especially with some of the bad dubs I've seen I've chosen to stick with watch the subbed versions. Plus I can learn some Japanese phrases while I'm at it. I think it's better to watch the original because you get a better idea of how the anime is really suppose to be like

subbed, defenitly

I love the japanese language way more than english, and I have learned a lot of things by watching anime (even some kanji!)

As I suspected, the first post I would make will be in the "Anime" section xD
Ehem, onto topic.
I prefer it Subbed or Raw.
English Dub usually kills the voices of the characters...

I prefer the original Japanese voice acting on all but a few anime because it sounds more natural and fits the character's actions better in most cases. English dubbing is usually horrid (Bleach & Naruto) but I really enjoyed it in animes such as Death Note, FMA, Inuyasha, and Code Geass.
