What was the first anime you ever watched?

French name is "Sandy Jonquille", Years of production are between 1981 - 1982.

"Princess Sarah" in Japanese is "Shoukoujo Sara Sara "(ﾂ渉ｬﾅ津ｶﾂ鞘?犯短ﾂーﾆ停?ｰ) 1985 is a story taken from Western author Frances Hodgson Burnett . French name is "Sara la petite princesse". Year of production is 1985.

I think that would have to be Ranma 1/2 (that I can remember), not counting various films the Japanese released for children back in the '80's.

The first anime I watched, I'd imagine it was something like the full length movie to Fist of the Northstar, probably dubbed no less... the second and third ones I can remember actually aquiring and watching were Rurouni Kenshin and Marmalade Boy.

hmm yeah I remember it briefly, Iria Zieram the animation... the first real anime I watched but before that it was gotchaman and speed racer lol... I love Gotchaman...
with the feathers and capes it looked cool and speed racer was freaking hilarious so yeah Iria Zieram was the first animated movie i've seen on international channel but that is my favorite animated movie still I loved the action and story line...

Well when I was little I remember that my mom loved Speed Racer, so I guess you can say that was my first. But the one that I became a Fan of was Sailor Moon when I was 7 years old, and then later Dragon Ball Z when it was put on Toonami when I was 12. Thats about the age when I realized that both Sailor Moon and DBZ was anime. And from that it sparked my current interest in Japanese Culture.

My first was also Astroboy. It's been decades since I've seen it, but I can still remember the theme song.

it could be either Doraemon or Sazae-san or something else.

But from what I do remember having watched, it's Kidou Senshi Gundam(aka MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM/GUNDAM 0079, the very first series). Not real time, probably re-airing.

I really can't say for sure, after reading a couple of replies, I've seen a lot! As a child there were so many... I guess one of the very first I would really call anime that I've seen would be
- Ranma 1/2
- Sailor Moon.
But the one that really started me out was Card Captor Sakura... Hmmm... hope I'm not making a mistake saying this

The truth is ... that I first watched Sailormoon. And you know what? I still like it. It'll always have a soft place in my heart as the single thing that put Japan on the map for me for the first time, as it were.

The very first Anime i have ever seen was the one called "Slayers"
not sure whether any1 remembers it but the main character is "Lina Inverse" and co.

All about these ppl doing spells to fight against each other then trying to see who could gobble down as much food as possible.
It was a classic

I cannot remember in Italy we had so many in the 80s so i grew up with Anime.
