Like really, who would like to live in the age of Rurouni Kenshin (and don't call it
Samurai X because THAT IS NOT ITS NAME). Is pretty well on the equivalent of a third world country that you would be living in. People who watched the OAVs saw the
Bakufu, which would interest me as a period of time to watch, to see the great events that shaped modern Japan. Seriously, however, that period was so very violent and bloody that you probably would die. It was cool to watch the Ikedaya affair in the second OAV because it was a real event but beyond that's it's a pretty hard place to live in. Akira窶ｦ yeah I want to live in a post-apocalyptic world, great I get a bike窶ｦ wuhoo窶ｦ everybody is dead though.
And whoever brought up pocket monsters/pokemon窶ｦ shame on you that's not even anime窶ｦ that's a kids show.
I窶冦 going with my all-time favorite anime series, Macross. It would be a great period to live in, as technology completely revolutionizes things for humans. Wicked mecha but not stupidly uber-powerful ones like in Gundam or Evangelion and realistic storylines. Oh yeah, they got Minmay, Mylene Genius and wicked music to boot. I'll take it any day.
Beyond that, I would choose Nausicaa's wind valley or the World of Laputa. Tokyo 2040 AD would be wicked with all those girls (if you know what series I窶冦 talking about raise your hand), or the world of Patlabor.
