Even though anime studios in japan target a young audience (no older than high school in general), most people overseas who really like animes can be considered as "adults".
So i propose everyone to tell me his favorite anime that he would recommend for adults.
Mine is unmystakly: MONSTER, from the manga series by Naoki Urasawa

Ah, Monster seems to have a good reputation among Japanese adults, too.
(I haven't seen it yet, though)

My recommendation is follows:
-Studio Ghibli animes, such as "Kiki's Delivery Service", "My Neighbor Totoro".
-Kamichu!
-Emma: A Victorian Romance
-Mushishi
-Planetes
-Cowboy Bebop
-Samurai Champloo
-Samurai Gun
-Black Lagoon/Black Lagoon Second Barrage
-Trinity Blood

....Sorry, too many to list.

Some of the above Wiki articles don't have enough info, but you can always google and Anime News Network may have more details.
Hope you enjoy!

Arigato gozaimashita!

thanx everyone for your answers, i appreciate the effort you guys put in including links to your suggestions (unfortunately, i am too new of a user to pu URLs in).

I would recommend one more title, if you are fond of science and fantastic stories, that is : "Nadia and the secret of blue water" (ふしぎ の 海 の ナでイア) that will please adults even though the main characters are 15 ;-)

I confess this is my favorite out of all i've seen so far :-)

I saw Monster a earlier this year. It's longer than the normal anime out there, running at about 70 or so episodes if I'm not mistaken. It was really good, and worth buying in my opinion. Your anime listings are nice! I have seen most of them and at the moment I'm really enjoying the second season to Black Lagoon. I'm a bit sad that it's almost over (again). Hopefully the ending may turn out fine for the characters and a 3rd season will come around. Part of me thinks that's wishful thinking though. -.-;

An anime I would have to suggest would be Chevalier. With the soundtrack aside (Which is fantastic), the story has been pretty interesting so far and the series is still ongoing. It has about 10 or so episodes left.

Speaking of adults who like watching anime.. I just really dislike it when people think of anime as "cartoons for little kids". What's wrong with being an adult and liking to watch anime?
As for recomending you some anime, here are my suggestins:
Yu Yu Hakusho
Inuyasha
Kiddy Grade
Bleach
Spiral
Rurouni Kenshin
