The 'be-real-nice-and-talk-about-anime-in-a-civilized-manner' Thread!

Macross is a very old anime but something that is a series and is ver much like macross is robotech.

Dont worry you didnt miss out on much,But one anime i do suggest to everyone is Iria

Bount-Hunters trying to capture and kill this unstopable creature, when i mean Unstopable i mean this FRY aint no joke.

The whole bounty hunter and unstopable being thing is one of my favorite themes. I think that's about how it is in Genocyber (although I haven't actually seen it yet) Have you seen Mermaid's Scar?

Nope,I havent even heard of it(Well i havent been updated with new anime like about 3 months-i only know about the new ninja scroll series and naruto/
I need to get uopdated

Oh, Mermaid's Scar is a fairly old anime, early 90's I believe. It's not very well heard of, but it's one of the most disturbingly twisted series...just stange o.O

I haven't heard of Mermaid's Scar. But I will say some of the more psychotic animes did come from early 90's (Like Psycho Diver). Also, anyone else here agree that Lain has to be rewatched at least twice before you can grasp it all. I'm assuming a human entity can't be sent to the wired, but you never know :P

damn spike, finally u show up!! where have u been?? alot has happened in ur absence.

I liked Cyborg 009 (Cyber Soldier 009) it's good, although it kinda looks like that other one, you know its like some robot who has feelings like a human, and he's half red and blue, and when he's pissed he kills and he gets sad about it, talk about a pms robot... anyway yeah the art looks realllllllllllllly identical... Ranma 1/2 was ok :) Inu Yasha well.. thats go od too :)

Ah, i've seen Serial Experiments Lain, it was really complicated, I have to find the episodes because they're not showing it on T.V. anymore...and I missed the second showing. *darn*
Boogiepop phantom is also pretty funky..

the spike has left the building. i LOVE Iria, macross, galaxy express and so many more. The cyborg animes are great like battle angel alita

NeptuneMoon i was wondering if you own Iria,I have been trying to look for the DVD,All i find is the VHS and whenever i do find the DVD they are out of STock 😲

Can you help me purchase the Iria DVD?

The funny thing is that we arent able to get the dvd yet we need to place a bid until they find what we want.Wow is this anime like not in productions anymore. If you do find a place plz tell me i really wanna add that anime to my Collection.

the first anime i ever saw, was late at night on the Sci-Fi channel when i was 7 years old. i couldn't sleep, and it was like 4 in the morning and i was looking for some cartoons, but there was only nick at night and thats all old sitcoms. and i saw some anime where there is this guy and his sister and they go around in space and like kill criminals that take ppl hostage or somthing. anyways this alein kill everyone on a ship and they are snet to kill it (thinking its a criminal) and the guy gets killed but his sister has to to kill it now. i dont remember it well, but it opened my eyes to violent animation and i started looking for more anime. the next day when i woke up i saw pokemon on tv for the first time and got hooked on that lol. i wonder wat that anime was tho.

Well I bought Iria on vhs a real long time ago and recorded off scifi. Maybe someone on ebay is selling it. You know they also have a live action Iria. I wonder if that is anygood. I miss the anime they had on sci fi. Now I'm waiting for that cable box that has the animenetwork cuz that hasnt reached my area yet.

I was wondering but i have heard from a couple of freinds that you have to pay for ebay if you want to become a member?

Oh yeah i heard about the live action movie also,I have been wanting to see it but first i wanna get the officail DVD of Iria then ill go watch the live.

Macross is one of the great series of the 1980s, second only to gundam in the big mecha franchise, but in a world of its own. It built itself on attempting a realistic portrail of war, which gundam did not do. Main Characters were killed regularly, there was no glamor involved. The best and coolest pilot ever dies pretty early on (Roy Fokker) unlike in gundam where Char and Amuro can't really die. The next ace pilot, Max Jenius is a bumbling nerd who is pretty cool in his own right but not in the world. The story had a huge love triangle to it, had BY FAR the best music for its day. Many of Minmay's songs are still catchy and they are from the 1980s. Music was so very important to the series, and it was choreographed really well. And then there were the mecha designs, Functional, well thought out, they attempted to be fairly realistic, unlike gundam.

DO NOT WATCH ROBOTECH. It pretty well took Shoji Kawamori's (the same guy who did Evangeleon) storyline and hacked it up and made something completely different based on two other japanese series... genesis climber mosepeadia and I can't remember what the other one's name was. The Macross DVD set costs like 200 $ but if you want the general gist of it, there was a movie made called "Macross: Do you remember love" You can download it off of Kazaa as a fansub because you cannot buy it anymore in North America. It is ranked as one of the great anime movies ever made.

Macross plus is the version most people know in north america. Its actually more deep than people give it credit for. PEople see it as just a mecha fighting OVA/Movie (the movie is better) but the plotlines of the three main characters is supurb. IT also features maybe one of the greatest heroic acts in Anime history... I won't give it away but if you see it nothing comes close to what one character does. I can discuss it here but if most people haven't seen it than I don't want to ruin it. Its absolutely spectacular. Try to get the subtitled Movie version, Kawamori himself believes it is better than the 4 part OVA.

Next there is Macross 7 which came out as a TV series at the same time that Macross plus was released in Japan. Most westerners hate MAcross 7, while most Japanese think its an really good series. ITs a bit out there, but I personally liked it and its got the best music of all the macross series. ITs more focuses on personal development of the characters than the mecha aspect like Macross plus.

Right now there is a Macross revival going on in Japan. Its partly due to the release of a new series called macross zero, a prequel to the first macross TV series. Its actually pretty good and it features ultra cool Roy Fokker as one of the main characters.

All macrosses have deeep character development and Shoji Kawamori is just a master at what he does. I don't see anymore Evangeleons coming out, but he continues to make Macrosses because they are so very interesting. There is always a struggle about what is right and wrong, and characters just struggling to survive. Having WICKED mecha doesn't hurt either. It goes without saying that Macross is probably my favorite anime
