Persian is an indo-european language of the indo-iranian branch. i.e. its related to most european languages. it sounds something between french and italian IMO. though its the easiest existing indo-european language because it has no articles, no irregular verbs, only 3 time forms and generally the easiest imaginable grammatic. Nevertheless it is a highly poetic and imaginative language.
There are many great persian poets/philosophers like Hafez, Molavi (Rumi), Khayam, Saadi or Avicenna who are well known and very influential in the entire South and Central Asia. In India and Central Asia the language of poetry and of the royal courts has been persian for centuries.
And if I may ask a few questions: Are you a Japanese living in America?
Does you husband have a special interest in persian poetry?

English is my native language, I know a little Spanish and I'm learning Japanese though.

I hope to master Japanese because I just find it a really interesting and funky language, and also I'm a japanese addict so of course that makes me want to learn it even more!

I think it is a beautiful language.

We have several English translation of books by Hafez, Rumi, and Idries Shah in our bookshelf, my husband has a strong passion into Islamic literature. He got me to read about Mulla Nasrudin who I highly admired.

For your reference, I am a Japanese living in America, and my husband is an American.

Konnichi wa! I'm from the Philippines, and people there has to learn both Pilipino and English. So, I know both fluently. I'm interested in really learning anything about Japan, because I want to live there, so I'm learning to read, write and speak Japanese. (^_^)
