The Bummer and Rant Thread

New bummer: Suncoast Video, my favorite place to buy movies is closing its doors. It's parent company, Musicland went belly up and declared bankruptcy, so the entire Suncoast chain is kaput, and that's a damn shame. I've been buying movies from them for over a decade, and when the anime bug bit me in 1999, Suncoast was where I always went to buy the newest releases, from VHS to DVD. It's a sad day for me, fortunately, I'll still have Best Buy to fall back on as they sell anime as well, still, I'll miss Suncoast.
:(

I am dumber than sh!t. Last week I had a good thing going and I managed to screw it up completely.

What is wrong with me? I just can't understand.

I7m in such a bad mood now...

*sighs*

I just recently decided to change my major from Economics to Sociology. I guess when it came down to it I wasn't really interested in Economics, at least not the math part. But I'm kind of sad because I had my heart set on studying Economics since high school.

Anyways, Mika what did you manage to screw up? You can share if you like. :-)

I know a lot of people who've had the same problem... It really sucks that you first study something, then notice it's not really your thing - espescially if you're nto exactly a first year student. I think that they don't emphasise student guidance enough even though atleast here you have a lot to choose from so it's really easy to get lost. :(

Last year, our door got stuck so we had to call the maintenance guy to open it. We had to wait outside for ages in cold winter weather and when the guy finally showed up, he tried opening it all sorts of tools and in the process damaged the side of the door. He eventually called the locksmith who opened the door and they promised to come fix the door. Not surprisingly, this never happened and we just assumed that the door wasn't in such a dire need to be fixed since it works just fine and forgot about it.
Last week, when my other flatmate moved out and her room and the flat was inspected, the inspector looked at the door and said it was damaged and we have to pay for a new door or the repairment *_* They never said anythign about the door before when they've been here and they never came to fix it either! Now I have to fight with the company over the stupid door that I did nothing to >_<

Well, I'm officially faced with one heck of a quandry. Over the past couple of years, I've sporadically had to deal with water coming into my basement whenever we got really heavy rains or storms and it became a real hassle. In fact, I got so pissed with the situation, I thought of moving, even though I own the house outright.

I finally had a highly repubable company that specializes in waterproofing come out to the house on Tuesday to look over the basement and give me an estimate. After finding a myriad of problems (including mold, but he told me how to get rid of it), his estimate came to----TEN THOUSAND BUCKS!!! And that was the lowball amount as it could go as high as twelve grand!

And fixing the prolem would entail having to dig a near foot deep trench around portions of the basement and install a sump pump that would automatically pump out any water that might come in. I know I need something done down there, but jeez! Ten to twelve grand! That's too much just to wrap my poor mind around, never mind afford.

Suddenly, the notion of moving has popped up again as I don't know if the house is worth spending that amount of money because of it's age and condition. I'm just flummuxed and don't know what to do. Any suggestions?

Sorry to hear about that Jeff. A couple of things to consider though...

1) You don't need a sump pump permanantly installed. You yourself could pick up a simple pump for say $70 that would do the trick, and you just put it in there and plug it in when needed.

2) Could you say close in the part of the basement with the problem? Meaning possibly just building a form and filling it with cement to close it off?

3) Could you simply bore a hole where the problem is and fill that area with cement?

How many companies came for estimates? I would get 3-4 before I choose a course of action. I hope you find a cheaper solution. You could always entertain just backfilling the whole basement in with dirt! 😊

Heh! Great minds think alike! One of my fantasies was to have the whole damn basement filled in with cement.

More estimates! Why didn't I think of that? Yeah! I'll definitely look into that! Perhaps I could find a less expensive alternative. Thanks for the suggestion!

Seems to me if there is no real purpose for the basement, then just close it in....basements are a breading ground for mold and a main source for many other problems.

Yeah, tell me about it. Once, a long time ago, I had a fantasy about having the basement remodeled and turned into a fancy home theater, but that dream long since died. These days, the only thing I use the basement for is extra storage, but if I could fill it in, I would as it's become a huge (and certain to be expensive) hassle.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
:angryfire:
Someone at work told me the wrong place I had to go for a conference, with the result that I collected the wrong warrent and had to pay for my train ticket out of my own pocket. To the tune of over 100 quid. 😭
That has really messed up my month.......

*start rant* My mom is annoying me by cleaning my room and throwing stuff out wich I don't want her too  ..GRRRRR...she won't LEAVE !! xD *end rant*

If you are going to be a bum and a mooch and live with your parents at age 22 then don't complain about your mom who is trying to do something good by cleaning your room because you are too lazy to do it. Stop spending all your life living in a fantasy world and idealizing Japan. Get off of your lazy butt and clean your own room.

An update on the basement situation: Looks like I'll be getting the basement taken care of after all. The company who quoted me that outrageous price of 10 to 12 grand for the waterproofing sent out a district manager to look over things, and, much to my surprise cut the price in half after redoing the estimate from scratch, so the job will now cost just under $5,500!

That I can handle!! Especially since I'll be financed, all I'll have to pay out of pocket will be a tad over $1,800 which I'll pay today. And the work will be done by the end of the month. So, come April, I'll have the basement fixed and, more importantly, I'll finally have peace of mind and won't have to go into paranoia mode every time the forecast calls for rain. YAY!!

1.You don't know the situation and my reason why I posted that (1 year ago)
2.I'm still a student

I suggest you pipe down or at least post something worth of value ;-)

I hate my looks I hate the way I talk and Im absolutely discusted by my personality.
Im absolutely stupid and suck at flirting.

Well now the whole world knows ,who I am :D

I feel for you Kinsao san !! I love women !! Funny post there...!! Great news on the basement; congradulations !! It's probably nothing, RockLee, let it slide, dude !! I often feel the same moffeltoff san !!

And these stupid garbage collection rules are changing again...going backwards into the old Matsumoto the-people-can't-think-for-themselves mode of reasoning. I had to pay 200 yen for not attending the neighborhood meeting (of course I don't really have to pay, because it's not a law, but they stress it as being binding, and no one wants to do that but the group does because the group thinks the group would think the group would be wrong if the group didn't do it that way, when in reality only a handfull of folks in the group really give a sh** anyway....it's just the group.

AND looks like we have another object foating around in our 'atmosphere' since two days ago. Maybe another one of those information collecting robots from Earth...I wonder, could that be J-Bot?

Well, I have no problem with women, other than they won't have anything to do with me!
:D

Distance Relationships... I had enough from it!!!

especialy time difference, always when I want to talk, my wife will almost go to bed, or just wake up. because of this she is sleepy 60% of the time we talk, and space for emotions are hard to find. because emotion you just CANNOT time, I feel bad at a moment when she is really sleepy, and when I tell her this, she is getting annoyed because she can't have a conversation like this after a hard day of work, just 30min before she go to sleep... many times we are able to let it go, and talk about it in the weekend. BUT IT IS SO HARD sometimes!!!

SO yeah I had enough, and for the next 3months I will do my best to don't care, work hard, and forget about emotion a bit. in 3months from now, we can finally be together!!!! and HAVE space for this kind of conversations!

Dave I hear your frustaration. I really think both of you and your wife are great and patient. I'm sure your relationship will be even stronger when the two of you are together finally. You guys are handling the separation amazingly well.
I hope the next 3 months go quickly for you.

My rant...I got yelled at by an old lady today.:(

Thanks Misa, yeah I just have my moments in which I am going nuts sometimes haha.

Why did you got yelled ?

Because Old people yell. lol. They think they are talking soft. lol

I had a bad day on tuesday. I went snowboarding and got a concussion on my very last ride of the day. On the way home, my arms and stomach went numb, and my fingers were stiffining up. Like a rigamortis. I felt nauseas. I had to lay down on the mountain side for awhile, fearing that I would throw up in my friends car. Now, when I wake up, I can't move my neck. What a great way to spend my spring break.

Oh because of some miscommunication. I guess that happens when a Japanese and a Russian are trying to communicate in English sometimes...

Mine is a bummer rather than a rant. I found out on Tuesday that the learning centre I run is going to close at the end of July. I wasn't even told in so many words - just that there would be 'changes', and when pushed my HoD admitted that small centres would be abolished. I don't like the job, but the hours suit me down to the ground and I don't have to do much work! I might get offered a transfer to a bigger centre, but it will be under very different conditions. So it looks like I will have to look for another job. I really hate filling out applications!
