"Wan" is the Japanese equivalent of "woof" (dog bark).

One of our neighbours has two cars, and both have license plates with 39-39 (san-kyu - thank you). I still wonder whether there's a deeper meaning behind it.

I didn't get it either. :-(

How can they have the same plate? Don't they have to be unique??

Had cats for about 50 years. As a child , I had terrible luck with dogs. Two died with illness and 3 were run over. Back then , dogs ran free all day and only in the house at night. I like dogs , but fear if I own one , it will be doomed by my curse.

Even after almost 50 years I still feel dumb about my Japanese language mistake. My first day off base I heard all kinds of Japanese talking with each other. I was so happy they were all saying "HI" when they saw me. When I got back to base and commented how friendly the Japanese people were , all the guys had a good laugh at me.
