I just started teaching myself Japanese a few weeks ago using books and the internet, and plan to someday be fluent.

I already speak a little Spanish, but that's no suprise living in Texas.

I guess the main reason I am here is to further absorb myself in to Japanese culture and language the cheapest way I know how. Ultimately, I'd like to go on vacation or fly there for business some day.

I think I'm going to spend much of my time here lurking in the Japanese forums and, v..e..r..y....s.l..o..w..l..y reading them to get the hang of it.

This place already seems interesting. I'm going to refrain from using my sense of humor here, though until you people know me better.

Where did you get the katakana rendition of "all makes combined" in your banner?

Mike, that's most likely the default MS Mincho IME font. You can use IME in Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, and any other paint programs that I am not aware of. Then you can use the filters to give it a cool appearance as in his Signature.

Well; in that case...I just suppose that since he is a beginner at learning Japanese sounds, and writing, he did his best. But you are right in asking. I think I notice something fishy too. Shouldn't it be オール メイーキシ コンバインド? Or something similar?

"Makes" should be メーク or メークス or メークズ (Japanese isn't particular about plurals).

Cool! Thanks for the help. Yeah.. .I pretty much just played it by ear...

I've seen words that end with an 'L' sound ending with a ﾆ棚ﾂ or a ﾆ棚ﾆ脱ﾂ as opposed to ﾆ停?ｹ... Which is why I fugured that would work writing "all" as "o-u-u"...

With the word "makes", which has an long 'a' sound, I even thought it would sound better with ma-i-ke-su (ﾆ筑ﾆ辰ﾆ単ﾆ湛. I tried it the way you suggest, but then thought it might come out sounding like "maack" rather than "mayke" -- since from what I was reading, a long vowel in Japanese isn't the same as an English long vowel. However, if this is wrong, I'll change it.. I want to be uber smooth after all.. lol

Luckily I still saved my psd file so I can edit it with little effort.

Among them are "all" as オール and "make" as メーク. Such words are collectively known as "gairaigo" (外来語).
