What is your mother tongue ?

I was raised in a Spanish/English home, Spanish have been my mother tounge, until I did something stupid, went to an English school, rather than a Spanish one, where I could know Spanish and English, rather than slowly kill my Spanish for being surrounded by English-speaking only people.
I am relearning my Spanish, however, and find it unbelievably easy to pick up on.. and I know enough German that I can hold a conversation (depending on topic) decently... I know a little Italian, Portuguese (probably because it's quite similar to Spanish), and slowly making my way to understanding Japanese (so far I know a few direction questions, greetings, and random words). On the side I am inventing my own language, something I came up with when I was bored..

Well since my father traveled a lot and had to put me in french schools since he knew french he taught me that language first but I'm not french. My original native tongue that I speak "so so" is kirundi [kinyarwanda's EXTREMELY close cousin]. I'm actually trying to find a teacher or correspondant. Anyone speaks it?

My mother tongue is German, but I consider myself near-native in English (if not exactly on college level in terms of active vocabulary perhaps) and understand Polish perfectly but have absolutely no practice in speaking it.

I wish my Japanese was on the same level as my English.

French is my native tongue, but I've known English since I was young and am considered perfectly bilingual.

I also took some German classes when I was 18, but seeing as I'm now 29, you can imagine how little I actually remember.

I also took Japanese classes back in 2000-2001 and am struggling to re-learn what I forgot. *sighs*

As an aside, I'm surprised at the number of Francophones, most forum I've visited are near English-only. This is quite cool.

I prefer the term primary language, because it changed several times in my life. I was still a baby, when I was brought to Germany. German was my primary language then. When I was 5 years old, my family sent me back to my birthplace in Slovenia, where I spent a decade with Slovenian as my primary language. I've returned to Germany and haven't spoken Slovenian for more then twenty years. However, I'm about to change my primary language again, because I'm moving to England.
