*ehrm* I'm Latvian, but since my childhood I had to know 2 languages-Latvian and Russian, because Latvia was a part of Russia after the 1st World War til the late 80's [you know history, right?]...
I have no idea how, but I learned german somehow, when I was 4 years old, just no one in my family speaks german at all... <_< Good old TV! *lol*
And like almost every human in this world I know English AND trying desperatly to learn Japanese, deaf-mute [was that correct?] and Spanish and more languages till my head explodes XD *gi gi*
So...

English: everybody understands me?

well...I speak English, and not a word of Japanese...but my dad's job just transfered us all to Japan, so now I'm stuck in an apartment building in Tokyo not understanding anything around me...so if you can help me, I'd love you forever.

My native language is Dutch, but I consider my English to be good.
Also speak German and some French, because I had to learn those in high school. I think my German is okay, because I live not too far from the German border, so I can practice that... but my French still sucks, even after 5 years of classes
Studying Japanese now, so can also speak some Japanese... these days when I try to speak French, there are always Japanese words that appear in my head

English and believe it or not German. Ugh, German, I didn't like the teacher and she didn't like me. I won't speak it unless I'm forced by pain of death and of course in an ironic twist my Godson is half-German and his mother constantly laughs at the fact that I can speak to her in German better then her own husband, but she has to force me to.

I'm literally just getting started with my Japanese. I have to admit to a lot of anxiety simply because of other things that revolved around everything that I've been doing to set me on this path in the first place. My brothers use to taunt me by saying that everythings gonna pan out with the book and you'll end up with a nice Japanese woman, which I actually found a little unsettling.

More so because I don't know anything about Japan, except what I've been learning from the penpals that I had there and then whatever information that I could look up or look into. They really made fun of me for it because I can be a pretty passionate man and they think that some Japanese women will actually like that. Either way I got past my fears and just started learning, still got a long way to go though.

I speak Afrikaans mainly, but can speak English fluently. Learned a small amount of Sepedi and French at scgool and a small amount of Japanese from anime and the web

Not to mention that this is an English language board which (surprise) tends to attract more English speakers than Chinese speakers.

However, PS: English is not the most widely spoken language in the world by any estimation. It's #3 or #4 as a native language and #2 in overall speakers.

I speak both English and German fluently. I was born in Germany, where I have spent a total of 13 years (including 4 in the German Navy). I have also spent about 13 years in NZ (where I am currently working on a BA). Although I am very fluent in German, English is the better of my two languages as I do not use German enough (only at home with my girlfriend).
