English is my mother tongue, i know only scraps of german, and my japanese is improving.

If i get japanese down i will be happy, i suck at languages.

I can speak and understand swedish and english.
But I have to say the poll options are rather weird.
Danish and Swedish are way too different.
Norwegian can be understood by both danes and swedes,
but danish can't be understood by swedes.
If there's one language to be called 'scandinavian', then it sounds most like swedish.
The written languages are easily understood, but the accent in denmark is just way beyond that.

I am Sino Malaysian who is an Australian citizen but I now live in Europe. I honestly don't remember how to speak Malay as I went to Chinese school when I was a kid in Malaysia and Malay was only a language learnt in school. I never used it at home or with friends since they were all Chinese. Furthermore I had move to Australia since I was 12 and I never used that language anymore. Besides a few words I don't remember much, not enough to make a conversation in Malay anyway.

Due to the evolutions in my life I now speak English and Mandarin (Chinese) fluently, and fairly westernised. I have learnt Japanese before. I understand some Japanese, mostly written not spoken (this is probably because I never had the opportunity to practice the language). I am currently living in France and learning French, I can only speak a little; again I can comprehend better in written version, probably because around 40 percent of the English words came from French words.

My brain seems to have space for 2 languages....I learnt an African language when I was a kid so with English I was bi-lingual. But then I learnt swahili and my first African language was gone. Then when I learnt French my swahili was gone ...now my Japanese replaced my French !

First was English. After leaving HK (Dad was posted for a few years), I learned to speak Tagalog in a few days fluently. I do understand some Fookien and Mandarin and I could speak them, but not fluently. As for Japanese, probably some kanji since I have Chinese roots.
