The Bummer and Rant Thread

A pity about your bad run of luck with hamsters, Tsuyoiko. That's why I stick with stuffed bears, I don't have to worry about them passing on, then dealing with the heartbreak afterward. Good luck with your next pet.

Nice words, Jeff. The trouble with hamsters is that it is quite easy to become attached to them, but they lead such short lives.
My friend had a Guinea Pig that would squeak and run towards you called it's name (Lewis)

I would like a pet one day, but for now I'm with Jeff. I have a stuffed Gorilla from a previous relationship.
Not only is there no need to worry about him passing on, but there is no danger of him ripping my arms off either.

Ha ha, yes.

Q) What do you call a monkey that makes toast?

A) A Griller ! (say 'Gorilla' fast)

HA! Sound strategy, Rich! The only problem I have with my bears is that they're nototious couch potatoes, they can't wait for me to come home and turn on my hi-def TV. They just plain love how fabulous the picture is. Can't say I blame 'em!

:D

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr...... F**ken bank. -_-
All I want to do is make an International Postal Money Order. I spend over half an hour waiting in one line after another as I get sent to talk to different people. The conclusion: I have to make an appointment for another day, as to do the paperwork it will take at least half an hour and up to an hour... just for the f**ken bit of paper.... -_- because the company I need to send it to, they don't accept any other kind of transfer (except for cash).

It seems so complicated to do anything that can't be done electronically... I feel really old... that kind of transaction used to be simple... T_T and now I have to arrange specially for time off work, just to pay something that amounts to around 25GBP. -_-

That sounds like a pain in the arse.
If I was a pub know-it-all bore I'd probably say something like;

''It's bureaucracy gone mad !''

or;

''It's all red tape, these days''

You just have to be over 30 for that:-)
It'll be "I fought the war for you" next

Oi ! I'm not getting old.

I know how these young people talk - I'm hip to the jive, daddio.

You can't be serious! I haven't heard that since I was a kid! :D

Meanwhile, I recently experienced some weather related frustration. Back in February, I had new windows installed in my bedroom, but early yesterday evening, with temps hovering in the mid to upper 80's, I decided it was time to put the air conditioner in the window for use that night, only to discover, much to my horror, that the new window was too narrow for the unit! AARRGGHHHH!!! Fortunately I had a fan which I used to keep cool last night, but now I'll have to go out and buy a new a/c! And I've only had the old one for barely two years! URGH! How frustrating! A definite bummer!

Silly me! I've already posted that rant about the air conditioner! Damn! Don't tell me I'm getting senile too! Heavy sigh! Something else to rant about!

An update on the air conditioner situation. On Saturday, I went to my second home, Best Buy and bought a new unit, got it on sale for $99.99 (before taxes) and rushed right home where I installed it in my bedroom window. Thing is, other than for a ten minute test drive, I haven't actively used it. You see, we had a rather nasty storm blow through the are Friday night, and it's been cool and comfortable ever since. Haven't seen the high side of 80 since Friday and it might be like that for a few days. Go figure. But, I still have July and August to look forward to, so my new toy will get plenty of use!

Jeff...do you not have Central air and heat in your home?

Nope! I live in a plain old rowhome that may well be close to 100 years old. It's cooled via window mounted air conditioners/fans/open winodws in the summer and heated via natural gas furnace (or, in some cases, oil furnaces) in the winter. Philadelphia is a city of rowhouse neighborhoods. Only folks who live in apartment buildings and out in the 'burbs have fancy stuff like central air.

Same way in New Orleans everyone has shotgun houses with the old window air conditioners. And when it was really hot the whole family sat in the room with the air conditioner cause they average house only had maybe 3 ac's

I just got told BY E-MAIL!!! that I am going to be out of a job at the end of next month. I had e-mailed yesterday asking what was going on and I have to wonder whether we would have been told yet if I hadn't brought it up. I work for a college that runs 8 learning centres around the city. We had been told that the learning provider had awarded us a contract but we had to wait for the funding figure - our head of faculty had assured us that the two larger centres would stay open. Well, the figure came through and it was a big fat zero. So all the centres will close, putting 10 people out of work. :(

That does suck !

BUT...with your teriffic looks, brilliant mind, and wonderful attitude, you are sure to find a better job very soon!

Uncle Frank

😌

Sorry to hear your news, Tsuyoiko...

...Please say something nice about me too Frank !

I am being made redundant in september.
NHK are disposing of much of the machines at their London office, so they will no longer need an engineer to take care of them.
So, now my flatshare has also fallen through and my holiday plans are buggered.
Thanks boss !

Oh no !! I'm so sorry to hear that Tsuyoiko chan, Rich303 san. I hope all goes well for both of you !!

I know your hubby will carry you through, Tsuyoiko, but it's good to work too.

I do wish the both of you an even brighter future job !!!!👍 :-) 🙂

I failed an exam today, so I'll probably have to take resits in september. Bye bye summervacation ! :(

Sorry to hear about your jobs Tsuyoiko and Rich, I can imagine that sucks HARD !

That is absolutely dreadful, Tsuyoiko! It's also reprehensible that the bastards you worked for didn't have the guts, or the common decency to give you the news in person! Something like that pisses me off no end! Even though we've never met, I consider you a good friend, so I can't help but feel for you in the crappy situation you're in. In any event, I hope you'll be back on your feet again real soon.

Where did you last see it? Maybe it fell down behind the sofa.

I think my virginity is growing back !

Thanks for the comments guys - and sorry to hear you're in the same boat Rich! My biggest problem is that I don't really want a job, but if I'm going to get one I have to pretend I do! :D

Awwww I feel sorry for anyone/everyone who has lost their job! :( I don't suppose you want mine, do you? :D I'm packing my bags for the off... (not really from my job, I hasten to add; just from everything in general. :) )

Aww Rocklee, that's bad luck... 😭 but, perhaps after studying for longer, you will get a better result than if you had passed first time! 👍 And, find time to have a good time as well, during the summer, because in fact you have the good excuse, that you study better if you have enough breaks and don't over work your brain. :haihai:

@ Ghettocities: afraid I haven't seen any viginities for a good while >< I'll check down the back of the sofa though, just in case! :D
