Anime series which you wished were longer?

Often when i watch a really good anime series for the first time, i really enjoy it and really want to watch one episode after another. But as the series progresses, although i want t see what happens in the story in the end, at the same time i know the anime serious will end sooner or later and that will be it, end of.
What anime series have you watched which you wished didn't have to end when they did and go could on doing more episodes for longer?
For me, anime series which i wished were longer which spring to mind are;

Azumanga Daioh
Samurai Champloo
Slayers
Rune Soldier

And so many more...

There should be few anime like that. Let's start the way I remember:

Skullman: The end clearly shouts for more story, so I would assume they left some for a second season. If nothing is coming out, something is wrong as the ending was left way too open.

Elfen Lied: I loved this show, making it longer would not necessary mean it would be as good as the original series. Even then, I would like to see more of this series.

Berserk: I still think it was rude to make the anime just a foreplay for the manga, nothing more, nothing less. It would be nice to be able to see the whole story as an animation as well.

Bastard: Only made a short OVA, the manga is way longer and I would love to see some more of it as an animation.

Hellsing: There is never enough of vampire dedicated anime. So this would go also for Black Blood Brothers, Blood+, etc. just for any vampire anime.

There should be more than those, but those are the only ones I can remember right now.
 
Well... if you ever feel sad about a series... let the waves of shounen remind you how lucky you are that the series you prefer actually have a proper end. (Naruto anyone? Bleach? Dragonball? One Piece perhaps?)

I think wishing to see more of a short series is not something you can compare to the endless series like Naruto, Bleach, Dragonball or even One Piece. Besides, until a series is fully ended one cannot say if it has a decent ending or not. Let's take Dragonball, for example. I do not think it did not have a proper ending at the end. To have a proper ending you do not need a short anime series, but also longer ones can have it. What counts is how the story itself is, which is a factor most endless series fail.
 
Can a 100+ series long anime have a proper ending? Just take Bleach for example, it could have ended after the Soul Society arc, after the Bounto arc... or God forgive me, even after Renji and Byakuya humiliated the *****.
Naruto? Its bloody nearing the 300 mark. Its almost equally mindless as Dragonball. Seriously, an anime with 6-8 episode fights can't be decent, it reeks of shounen.
 

Yes, any kind of anime can have a proper ending. First of all, the bounto was not even a real story arc, it does not exist in the anime. The only reason for its existence was to pre-long the anime so that it does not catch up with the manga.

If you compare the manga and the anime with of the endless series you can see how much faster the story goes on for example in Dragonball or Bleach or Naruto. Naruto also had a huge amount of filler episodes, so many that they decided to make a second season for Naruto.

The way the ending will become is determined how well the story has been thought. For example, ending Bleach with the soul society arc would have still left questions about Ichigo, his mask. They could have easily changed it to end at that point of time, though.

One Piece on the other hand, is like a big adventure with a goal that Ruffy has, the One Piece and to become the Pirate King. To get there is a long and rough adventure he has to go through. Yes, the fights could be shorter and the story could go on faster, but the slowness nor the long fights make a story bad.

Many of these series would be better with faster fights, but the long fights do not destroy the story; it just makes it slower.
 
I've seen anime but I don't actively watch anything. Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop were the only two series that really impressed me, and I think it was because they ended while they were good. These shows that try to follow a manga or just go on and on forever are bound to fall victim to repetition or fillers; the perpetual storyline becomes a weakness. Just because it's longer doesn't mean it will stay consistently good; wanting a series to be longer is like wanting it to suck.
 

Of course a series being longer does not mean it is better, but a series being shorter does not mean it is better neither. There are anime that have been made longer than the story actually can keep it together; there are anime that have been shortened but could have a longer story and still be in tact.

The way an anime is, depends totally on the story it has. Without a decent story, it just ends up being stretched up story. A good story that has been cut shorter is no fun to watch neither. They need the golden middle in the length of the story. All these shounen series would be better if they would not try to stretch the series as much as they are doing right now.
 
If a happy ending is all you wish for. Shounen will be shounen I suppose.
I personally don't want to see the same old script with the atmospheric battle in the end, and than, voila, happy end, fin. Sure, its not that bad sometimes, but only sometimes.
 

Yes, shounen will be shounen. What else could it be? The statement is like saying that anime is anime. Shounen is in the end just one genre of anime, nothing more, nothing less.

The atmospheric end battle is used is sooo many anime, not just shounen, but any kind of. Even that kind of ending can be messed up totally; for example, Claymore which has the shittiest ending in a series I have ever seen and it only had 26 episodes.

The truth is, most people do like a happy ending, they want to see a dramatic final battle before the story ends. Not just in those forever lasting shounen series, but in short ones as well. What kind of ending each anime has, depends totally on the story writer, the length of a series has absolutely nothing to do with it. It raises the probability of having such ending, but it never forbids any other kind of ending.

How many anime do you know, any length of series, that have a sad ending? Happy endings are part of the story, it sells. Not only in anime but also in movies and TV series.

It is true that the shounen series could change their scripts little bit more, as they really seem to follow the same script in each series. The sad truth is, they are not trying to make it something special, they are making it something that sells. There has to be a reason why series like Naruto, Bleach and Dragonball are so popular. Some shorter anime series with better story etc. which are not even near as popular as those. They are not making the anime for their own satisfaction, but for profit like everything else.
 
I agree that anime's like Naruto go on for way too long for their own good with no end in sight. Its rather like the pokemon thing, its just an anime made for profit.

With anime's like Samurai Champloo and Azumanga, i wish they would go on for longer simply because they were so fantastic- i don't think it would be good to do new seasons for them completely (because it would ruin the story lines because they weren't designed for that), however i wished there had been more episodes in general to the series. Nice gaijin says Samurai Champloo was good because it ended at a great time in the series, however i think a 4-5 more episodes during the middle half of the anime wouldn't have hurt.
 
Let's see... Peacemaker Kurogane kinda cut off way earlier than it was supposed to o__O;. Just when it was starting to get to the main plot, they ended it early. Even the manga continued past that point XD.

I also hear that Berserk ended way too early... XD
 
Animes which left me asking for more More MORE!

Yeah Peace Maker Kurogane was definitely unfinished, how I wish it was longer. But I guess they stopped there because that was the most glorious of time for the Shinsengumi. After that, disaster sets in so in order not to let us fans down, they stopped halfway. Nonetheless, I hoped it had continued.

XXXHolic was too short for me. I love all the strange stuff going on. Heard that the series was divided into different seasons but I only got to the first season.

Code Geass, Blood+ and Honey and Clover, I never got enough of them. How I wish these animes were longer.

Really wish they'd get around to releasing more Haruhi.
 
First things first . . . . AUGH!!! NALL-OHKI!!! You have my avatar! Or . . um . . . I have yours! AUGH!!! Wait a moment . . . great minds think alike? I would have to agree with your "taste" . . .

I absolutely agree that Dragon Half needed to be much longer! It was absolutely hilarious and poked fun at a lot of anime themes, including making fun of overdone battle scenes.

Along this line, Assemble Insert is another anime I would have loved to have seen more more of, too. Two episodes is such a cruel tease!

Roujin-Z wasn't a series, but I wish it were. Sigh. There really are some great single episode stories out there that aren't quite pilots, but not quite full-length movies.

I would also agree with Tokis-Phoenix that more Azumanga Daioh would be welcome, but where could you take the storyline? Azumanga Daioh - The University Years? Azumanga Daioh - OL Paradise? I think there is potential there, but since the original artist went off to do Yotsuba&!, we may never have more than what we have now.

In a final note, I wish there were more of the Tachikoma-kun spin-off animations from GitS: SAC. I really loved the GitS: SAC series, but the mini-Tachikoma animations had me yearning for more. Those cybernetic robots really became iconic (along with Maj. Kusanagi) for the entire series. I have, in fact, several of the models sitting on my desk at work.

Just some of the shows I would love more of . . .
 
i would say gakuen alice and fruits basket of course.why dont they continue these series like the manga??its so annoying..
 
I would like to see more Cowboy Bebop made. It was such an awesome show and it seemed to be over way too soon.

Also, it would be nice for a few more episodes of Big O and G-Gundam. Aside from Cowboy Bebop they were the best action animes I've seen in a long time. (even though Big O confused me and all my friends)
 
Oh, I loved Hellsing. I'm really into the whole vampire stuff.
 
I would say... Natsume Yuujinchou. 13 epi per season is really too short. And recently, Eden of the East (Higashi no Eden)!
 
I wished that Baccano was a little longer, the light novels dwell further into the storylines. I would love to see more of that series.
 
Maybe there is another season coming anyway but I really enjoyed Full Metal Alchemist although it was just one season so far.
 
Vampire Knight and Skip Beat! but I would be really glad if they made a sequel for Skip Beat! Everyone cheers up on this anime, it's sooo funny
 
For me I wish that The 08th MS Team would have been a little longer, it's my favorite anime of all time. Hmm some others would be…
When The Cicadas Cry (I especially liked the second season), Eden of the East, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Outlaw Star, and Tenchi Muyo or Tenchi Universe. I really grow to like a series while I watch it and get a bitter sweet yet lost feeling once I finish a series haha.
