i've watched Cowboy Bebop and it is my favourite for now
i've also watched Mushishi... great show...
now i'm watching evangelion..to catch up some old... and death note.. something new..

i've already huge list of recommendation.. but want it from here too to organize priorities, i guess...

oh, i've also started to watch FMA, and love it, but i don't have time for it right now...

sooo... i prefer sf/fantasy... but i'm open to any suggestions

so, shoot!

Yeah, Bleach is very good. But you should try Samurai Champloo great anime! The best I have watched. Shinichiro Watanabe who directed Cowboy Bebop, also directed Samurai Champloo.
Another cool anime is Hellsing.

Warning: I'm a bit older school than most people posting so far, so here you are:

Escaflowne - Classic, beautiful, great plot twists, awesome character, Maaya Sakamoto's beautiful voice and music by Yoko Kanno (Highly reccomended)

Hmmm... nothing else comes to mind. Go watch Escaflowne.

well, thank you!!!

all of mentioned are already on my list.. now they are moving higher on it! lol

anyway, do not hesitate - I am really curious what people from this forum will tell me

anime recs

I thought bleach was horrible to be quite honest, but to each their own.

I'd reccommend, Ghost in the shell SAC, the Ghost in the shell movies (sci-fi), Elfen lied (depressing), Blood+, outlaw star, ergo proxy, saikano and wolf's rain (the first anime i saw). These are ones that i have seen personally and liked (havent finished blood+ yet, and probably going to have to rewatch ergo proxy. I thought Saikano was dumb at first but ended up liking it.

My friend liked Neon Genesis Evangelion a lot (havent seen much of it but plan on watching it in the near future.

Ones i would personally stay away from are Inuyasha (worst show on television almost), Naruto, DBZ, and Ruroni Kenshin (haven't seen it but i've heard bad things from friends). The storylines of these shows dont go anywhere, and the premise is stupid.

That's all i got for you for now, have fun watching anime!

Just a couple of questions for you Alma san, what language do you watch your anime in (subbed or dubbed)? and, if it is in your native language, is there the same range as you would get in English? Just curious.

As for recommendations you can't go wrong with Ghost in the Shell, films and series, but I would highly recommend Akira. If you want something a bit more comtempory, but with a great story I would really give Gunslinger Girl a go. Not as haevy on action as some anime can be, but it is well written and IMHO one of the best series I have currently seen. The Studio Ghibli films are also a good set of anime films to see. Try Spirited away, The Cat Returns, Princess Mononke and Nausicaa as the first to see. Grave of the Fireflies is a good film, but it is depressing and you need to be in the right mood to watch it.
Avoid Dragonball, in any of its incarnations, at all costs, unless you really want to watch fights that last 3 episodes with constant "You thought I was weak, but I am only on low power. I will now power up to a higher level...." etc, etc, etc. Believe me it will go in in this manner for an eternity. If you have a strange urge to watch it try finding it on a TV channel rather than buy it.

um If you liked Cowboy Bebop, you should like GTO (great teacher onizuka) too because it's also very funny and entertaining

The Anime which I recommend
Mysterious Anime
MUSHISHI

Love story Anime
Honey and a clover

SF Anime
Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C. 2nd GIG
Planetes
These Anime expressed gravity well.

The best Anime
Rurouni KENSHIN - TUIOKU HEN -

thank you so much... i'm taking notes

Actually, I do prefer Japanese version. Now and then I get some movie that is already dubbed, it's ok, but i prefer to listen Japanese (not that I understand much, but I'm trying). and here people do not know much about anime, I cannot buy it legally anywhere and it is not broad-casted on TV (except for Pokemon and some similar shows... yeah i think i saw DBZ.. didn't like it). they are dubbed of course, because they're for young children, I suppose. oh I did watched Yu-gi-oh dubbed on TV, and really liked translation and everything.

As for the movies... I like them too of course it is easier to find and takes less time to watch obviously (and I'm kind of busy always with exams and everything...) most of those you've mentioned I've watched, Ghost in the Shell, Akira and most of Ghibli's.. but not Grave of the fireflies yet... I'm waiting for right mood, i guess. Gunslinger Girl - never heard of it before... I'll check it out - thanks

@Hiroyuki Nagashima - thanks - I've already watched Mushishi when you mentioned it before, and really loved it!

Ghost in the Shell S.A.C. 2nd GIG is definitely next thing I'm watching, as soon as I finish with Evangelion

ok, gotta go and work on my list um.. i mean study

I finally broke down and watched grave of the fireflies and it is without a doubt the most insanely depressing thing ive ever seen.
I also really recommend Last Exile. It's so good!

It's a damn good film, though.

I recommend Rurouni KENSHIN, and Lupin!

For starters I think these are great!

Naruto is great as well, but the storyline got stuck for now... but it is nice to see some of the episodes... (check Youtube.com )

Ouran High School Host Club .. must see.

Watch Elfen Lied, and Black Lagoon. You can watch it all Elfen Lied here http://www.dailymotion.com/ParasiteX

and Black Lagoon here http://www.dailymotion.com/group/16447

Those are my two favs.

If you want to expand into humor, the best in that genre (in my mind anyway) is Excel Saga, perhaps the most insanely funny anime series I've ever seen which parodies just about anything and everything in anime. And there's nothing wrong with enjoying a good laugh, and Excel Saga provides plenty of that!

If you like Cowboy bebop you should see Samurai Champloo (very different anime, ver different from Cowboy bebop) however it is done by the same people and it's REALLY a great series!

I also recommend Yami no Matsuei ( has Shinigami in it so I like it !)

Death Note is a good series (kind of a detective story with a dash of paranormal added to it really!)

Sf wise I'd say you can't go wrong with The Gundam Wing Series! (If You like Giant Mecha then anything Gundam is rather good)
More mecha stuff their's Evangelion EXCELLENT series!!!!!!!!!!!! And of course Megami Kouhosei (Cadidate for the Goddess) is also very good.
Fantasy wise... hum... I can't really think of any on the spot but if anything comes to mind I'll post it!

Sci fi Anime!!

How's the anime watching going?

Ghost in the shell is awesome! Episodes 15 from both 1 and 2 are soooo good. Very Assimov sci fi. Samurai 7 is also sci fi... and not very long... it is fun.

If you want something very light and short... but funny and fun... no sci fi.. try Love Hine. About a young boy who is unsuccessfully trying to get into Tokyo University and takes a summer job in a women's bath house. It has some really basic Japanese, so you may understand it if you are learning Japanese.

The most popular animes in Tokyo right now are Narruto... which is about ninjas and is very cute and very motivating... Bleach... which is dark but has really really good illustrations... and finally One Piece... which is about pirates trying to get to the Great Line... hehe

The last three I've listed are extremely long... they never end, and new episodes or issues of manga are still being released. I recomend watching from the beginning to understand what's happening and get a rapore with the characters.

Trigun is also sci fi...but not at first. Very interesting.

Movies - Akira!! and Paprika!! Esclafone!!! Paprika is new and hard to find, though. Paprika is the best anime I've ever watched in my opinion. It is soo wild. It's about dream technology.

Have fun! I look forward to the next English episodes of Bleach and Narruto on Youtube every week. I gave up on One Piece... hehe.. it was a little strange... no sci fi or much majic... but it has its ups... very popular with the boys.

(I will make a list and some kind of schedule I really miss watching anime as I use to before )

thank you all!

Cool, watch Neon Genesis Evangelion, Lunar Legend Tsukihime, RahXephon, Ergo Proxy in this order. If you're still not hanging on a rope you can watch all the cheerful stuff too

Apart from these, some good ones I would recommend are: Seirei no Moribito, Gungrave, Elfen Lied (teh gore lal), thats it for now. Once you finish just bump the thread.
