2. How are Japanese relations currently with other countries?

Currently they are having a good relation with all countries expect N-korea. Main problem of this is that N-Korea abducted Japanese citizen from 1977 to 1983 (read more here), and the recent missles that where fired over Japan and in the Japanese sea.

There are other countries such as China, South Korea and Rusia that have their ups and downs with Japan but you can read more about it here on Foreign relations of Japan read

4. What are some customs/culture of Japan?

I'm sure you will find a lot of information about this in the Jref Culture section

5. How much damage does Japan take from natural disaters?

Depends to the size of an earthquake, one of the largest earthquakes is the 1923 earthquake in Tokyo (1923 Great Kantō earthquake) where about 100,000 to 142,000 died. Read more here

Ordinarily when you request an interview you are interested in that individual's opinions and perceptions based on their knowledge of the area, life experiences etc. If all you want are answers to a set of reference questions that focus narrowly and directly on a subject, like most of the above responses have suggested -- try Google or your local library. We may have a great interest in Japan but most of us are not literally walking encyclopedias on the country.

Well like Elizabeth wrote and I would like to add a couple of comments as well as ask a question here.

Did you think up the questions yourself or were they a part of a list from either your teacher or a textbook?

I ask that because some of the questions you are asking are really going to be difficult to ask someone to answer right off the top of their head. Here are a few examples of what I am talking about ok;

1. "What is the exchange rate from American Money to Japanese Money?"

To give you a straight and correct answer someone would usually have to read the newspaper, listen to the radio, or watch TV, or of course use the 'net. That kind of information just doesn't roll right off of everyones tongues.

The following questions too!

"How much damage does Japan take from natural disaters?
What is Japanese economic system based on? ex. fishing, communication, and free enterprise.
How do the rights of Japan citizens differ from America citizens?"

These question as well require a pretty detailed knowledge of facts and figures to answer just off the top of ones head, as what an interview usually is. Plus by putting the questions here a head of time the members that are answering you are pretty much doing just that, researching the answers to give you assistance. Otherwise you are going to get answers like;

Question; "How much damage does Japan take from natural disaters?
Answer; "Umm let me see, A lot"

Now do you understand the reason I wrote what I did to you in a previous reply.

I would suggest that you do not use Dutch's example to answer your question about the exchange rate. It is unlikely that you would get that rate at any financial institution. Banks charge a fee for the exchange, and the listed exhange rate is usually 2 to 3 yen lower than the published rate. Therefore if the published rate is 119.61 then you would likely get 117.61 at the bank.

CC1 is right about the currency exchange rate.

Usually what is quoted as "exchange rate" is T.T.S (Telegraphic Transfer Selling) rate, the rate at which bank sells the currency on T.T. basis.
If you are sending money by cable through bank, for instance, then this rate will be applied, but if you're going to buy some cash, a different rate (T.T.S + 2-3 yen as CC1 mentioned) shall be applied.

Buyng rate is lower than selling rate by 2 yen (this selling and buying is from bank's point of view), and cash buying rate is about 2-3 yen lower than T.T.B. rate.

You should ask questions that go something like this : What is your relationship with Japan ? What do you think of Japanese culture ? What kind of literature do you like and why ? What is your opinion of the current political/economic system ? What do you believe attracts so many Westerners to the Japanese experience ?

In other words, stuff the average Joe Schmoe at JREF will actually be able to answer without taking a whole day of their time or doing basic reference leg work for you as your dutiful minion/willing accomplice...

No problem. I don't know how much assistance you're getting from your teacher. We used to always have someone to ask and receive thorough explanations from when I was in school, but I guess that really was a while ago now.
