With that extra background information there, Goldiegirl, I can see more things. . . because I do know about bi-polar conditions, and what that can lead to. In another way of looking at it, it just makes it all the more a sad matter, in that we can say that little choice was actually given him.
I also agree with Derfel here, that you will have to 'keep a stiff upper lip,' and let nature play itself out...a hard thing to do--knowing all the while--but for your well-being, it is not only the (most likely) best course, but is is not a matter of being inhuman either.
