About half of the people at my office are being transfered or made redundant.

Today was possible the absolute worst day of this entire schoolyear! Since explaining will take probably like a whole page, I won't do that to anybody... but it comes down to the fact that I really am not liking my Japanese teacher right now!! :box:

Well, here in the northeast, we recently suffered through some wickedly wet weather as storms lashed the area from last Friday through Wednesday. Areas in Washington, Delaware, Pennsylvania, South Jersey and upstate new York were whacked pretty good. Philly suffered some flooding in area bordering rivers, but I came through okay. However, I fear that the weather has made me neurotic.

Even though I've had my front porch repaired, my upstairs windows replaced and the basement waterproofed, believe it or not, I still don't feel totally secure and still get major knots in my stomach whenever the forecast calls for storms, and I know why. The memory of summer two years ago when my basement flooded three times in a span of just 80 days still lingers, or rather, hovers over me like a dark cloud.

The feelings of helplessness, fear and frustration as water seeped, poured and/or gushed into the basement, and my futile attempt to stem the tide (pardon the pun) were deep and gripping. I know I shouldn't feel that way, but I do, and I can't help myself. I'm afraid the only thing that will eliminate this pathological fear of storms is moving out of the house I'm living in. What do you think, stupid, isn't it?

I have almost had a somewhat similar thing happen here at the house back in '03. A big typhoon came through a dumped an ocean !!

There was no basement, but all the area in front of the house was flooded and it was just a mess. After coming home from work that night, on a detour route due to mudslides that covered the road in three places, I had to go out and dig a release ditch.

I sympathize with you. If there were some way to redo the landscaping, including water drainage, it might be good. I wish you all the luck !!

The ground will be saturated, and that water will need to go somewhere...the best you can hope for is 2-3 days of straight sunlight. Didn't you buy a submersible pump last time? CC1 & Mars Man: Thanks for your concern. Well, I've had the basement fixed and waterproofing equipment (including a sub-pump) installed to prevent against any sort of future incidents. And besides, it wasn't a fraction as bad in the city where I live as in areas north and west which got hammered by the rains last week.

That is good to hear! I knew that you had the basement repaired...with the extra pump you should be ok. I have 12 of them at work and check them daily. During the rainy season, we are subject to a flash flood at anytime...but luckily we haven't needed them in a while.

Yeah, the basement's okay, it's just my peace of mind that's suffered from the past incidents. Even though I havee nothing to worry about when the forecast calls for storms, I still do anyway. It's like a conditioned reflex, or worse, I'm like Pavlov's dog, getting my knickers in a twist whenever storms come my way. Got a good one Sunday night, lasting around twenty minutes. My next door neighbor, out on a family picnic reported seeing good sized hail, so it was rather nasty. And a repeat performance is on tap for today. Urgh! It's times like this when I have little love for summer!

Got really pissed off today. Some little piece of lowlife excrement went and pinched my mobile phone today. Only out of my cab for a minute and the little turd was in and out like a shot. Somebody from a house nearby saw him and from his bedroom and came and told me. By that time forementioned scum and vanished. Pisses me off. It is not as if phones are expensive, plus the one I had is no longer available in the shops. Hope the little sh!t gets run over by a large heavy moving vehicle and cripples him for the rest of his worthless life. I'm not bitter, honest

Well, here in Philly, we're in the middle of a brutal stretch of insanely hot weather. Monday saw a high of 97 and was positively wretched, and today we're expected to see a record of 99. URGH!! My air conditioners (upstairs and downstairs) have been plenty busy since the weekend, so I shudder to imagine what my August electric bill's gonna look like. Even worse, I'm almost looking forward to Winter! NO MORE HEAT!!!

We've got hot weather too. Not as high as you, not yet anyway, but it might hit 100 tomorrow in some areas. I'm not a hot weather person.

I haven't left my room since it reached the upper 90's. The only thing I've been doing lately is watching DVD's and I haven't been out volunteering or anything. It's too hot! I like being inside my air conditioned room.

It hasn't been so very bad in the UK lately... except for the fact that I now have to work in a place without air conditioning, and I have the hottest room in the entire building. It might only be in the low 30s outside, but it sure is hotter in the building. I want to go and jump in the ocean!

Well, on Tuesday the 18th, we reached a high of 99 with a heat index (real feel) of around 105. In a word----miserable! But, the heatwave broke around 8 that night with a gusty thunderstorm that blew through. Almost instantly, it was a good twenty degrees cooler than it was just an hour earlier. Needless to say that felt great. Today's expected high is 90, but after the last couple of days, that'll feel like Green Bay in November.

I've been feeling kind sad recently, because lately I'm seem to be loosing my interest in Japanese society and culture. Especially since I had to stop studying Japanese independently to study French as a foriegn language requirment, since my university doesn't offer Japanese. I feel that I haven't learned all I wanted to learn about Japan. My interest seem to have shifted elsewhere. God, I miss studying Japanese.

I had to give a presentation today that I was not told I was giving. Imagine being told hey can you go ver these documents with everyone and never have been given a chance to rpep yourself. Yeah I recieved the training from some one who had no idea how much training to give me..........man I could go on for hours about this. I should learn how to translate this to Japanese.

@ Damicci - That sounds like someone else at work didn't want to do the presentation and dumped it on you. Either that or your boss is an incompetant baka. I'd go for the second option, it usually works for me
