The Bummer and Rant Thread

If i get another call from someone trying to sell me windows or a new kitchen, i think i'll go mad. And them damn machines that keep telling me i won something. I must be lucky.
This is how the last call went:
Guy: Hi. Is this the home owner?
Me: No. And i dont need to buy anything either.
Guy: Oh im not trying to sell anything. I was wondering if you needed any windows?
Me: Are they free?
Guy: Not exactly...
 Then i put the phone down.
The worst thing is when you here about old people getting too scared to answer their phones. I heard this story about an old lady who was terrified because this tele-sales dude wouldnt leave her alone and just kept ringing. Thats just rude.
Anyway, i apologise to any offended tele-sales people who might be nice.

Yeah, I understand how you feel about tele-sales people. What I don't get is why that sales guy told you he wasn't selling anything and then asked you if you needed windows, but then told you that they weren't free. ☝ I understand what you mean, old ladies terrified? Goodness, I wouldn't think tele-sales people are that annoying.

Our phone displys the number. Most telephone salemen numbers come u[p as witheld or international, so we ignore them and let the answer phone pick up. They never leave messages. Sometimes I answer them if I feel like having a bit of fun. Normally start by answering the phone as 'moshi moshi'. This throws most of them. Then I won't let them finish their sales pitch. Ask them about then weather and where they are calling from. Hey, it's not my phone bill. After a while they hang up. Gives me a good feeling that I can out annoy them.

I have a little rant. For the past two days I've been sick with some sort of intestinial tract infection. I think it might bacteria, but it could be from mild food poisioning. All I know is that I'm getting sick of being sick.:(

Boy have I had one hell of a day. You guys wouldn't believe me if I told you. Of course I'm going to tell you anyway just because I think some of you guys can relate to how I feel right now. Just to warn you ahead of time this is going to be a long rant, so if you don't want to read it then don't. My rant will also go in order of out the events have taken place. Some of it may seem disjointed at first, but you'll find out why later on. Okay, on with my rant.

Today I woke up and felt like crap. I didn't get much sleep the night before. I only got about five hours of sleep. The pollen is starting to get bad, and I for one am already starting to feel it. Both my nose and throat hurt like hell when I woke up. After I had finally gotten ready for class I ended up running late because MODOT decided to start digging ditches on the side of the highway with a backhoe. Needless to say traffic was backed up like crazy.

When I finally got to class I was already ten minutes late. Yet, things seemed to go smoothly for the most part. That was until class finally let out. On my way home I had to deal with ditch digging crew, but it didn't bother me as much. However, once I got home things started to go downhill. When I got into town the subdivision that I live in was blocked off by police and firefighters. At first I couldn't figure out why. That was until I was hit with a gust of methane. I figured it was a major gas leak, and took a different way home. As soon as I got home I tried to open my garage door, but it wouldn't open. Frustrated I got out of my car and went to the door to see a notice on it. The electric company cut off our service. Now I was pissed.

I call my Mother and yell at her about the electric. I was pissed because for the past four years that woman has forgotten to pay the utility bills more times than I can count. However, I soon found out that she had paid for it and that the company had made a mistake. Okay, well then I'll just go into the house and wait for the guy to show up to turn it back on. There was only one problem: I was completely locked out of my own house. I didn't have any spare set of keys to get me in. Do you know what that meant? It meant that I had to drive all the way back to the town that Mother works in to get a spare set of keys. By this point the ditch diggers were my sworn enemy.

When I got to my Mother's real estate office she was about on the verge of tears. As it turns out she had just spent the last fifteen minutes fighting with a woman at the electric company over the mishap. While that really was frustrating for her, I was even more frustrated with the fact that I had to waste gas to get an extra set of keys to the house just so I can turn the breaker off. What's even worse is that I have to set at least ten different clocks, televisions, and God knows what else to the right time. My Mother told me not to worry about it, and that she'll just tell my Father. Then she took it back when she realized my Father wasn't in a good mood today. Want to know why? It's because his uncle had a stroke a couple of weeks ago, got into a vegitative state, and the doctors ended up pulling the plug on him. Great now I have him feeling bad. Don't get me wrong it's a sad thing, it's just I'm not emotionally attached to anybody on his side of the family other that two people.

After saying good-bye I have to race home so I can turn off the breaker for the electric guy. The ditch diggers are my most hated enemy by this point, and it seems that the entire subdivision around where I live is now blocked off by police. Remember gas problem right? Well when I got home I got into the house, turned the breakers off, and waited for the guy. Ten minutes went by, fifteen minutes went, by and before I knew it an hour had already gone by. The guy still never showed up. By this point I was getting tired of waiting, plus with the gas problem the media from St. Louis had to swarm to the sence with helicopters so I was getting pretty tired of hearing all the damn noise.

Finally, after an hour and half the electric guy shows up. As he's hooking the power by up, I come to find out that the gas problem wasn't really a gas problem. No, far from it. It was a four year girl who had been abducted from her home. Great, now we have a possible sex offender on the loose, and in my own neighborhood no less. Well after the power was hooked up I said my thanks to the electric guy, and got in the house to relax. As I booted up my computer and checked my e-mail I found out that I had won a bid on a video game that I wanted from e-bay. That should be good news right. Wrong. I was going to retract my bid on the item for the same thing only from a different seller for a cheaper price. Unfortunately I had no power, so I had no way to stop the bid. Now I have to pay for the item regardless to the fact that I didn't want it in the first place.

As you can see my day is just really great today. I also forgot to mention that I hadn't eaten anything today, and sitting out in the sun waiting for that electric really made me sick. Why is it that everytime something minor goes wrong, the rest of your day always seems to go downhill? Sometimes I think the powers that be love to screw with humanity. The thing is I'm not laughing. Maybe I should spraypaint a pig's car to help relieve my stress.

Doc- sorry about your lousy day man.
Go have a big sub sandwich, take a nap, and wait for Friday!

Thanks man. ^___^ Of course things did get a little better after the day was out. The little girl was found, and was returned safely. Come to find out that the grandmother of the little girl was taking her to Hillsburo, and the mother was so druged out on medication that she didn't hear the grandmother tell her that she was taking the child. The cheaper bid that I wanted on e-bay ended up skyrocketing during the last five minutes of the auction. In short, I ended up paying less on the item I won, than if I retracted the bid, and went with the another bid of the same item. As for having a sub sandwich, oh I already did that last night. ^___^

Today is even a better day. I was 20 minutes late for class because I slept in from having to stay up so late writing my novel. When I got to class, the instructor was just complaining about the board at the college, and the amount of money they would have for a raise. I was in class for five minutes exactly. Then it was over. How do you like that? I should have just stay at home instead. Oh well, at least I mailed my money order off in the next town since I don't trust the post office in this town, so it's all good. ^____^

I may as well post what I've been very annoyed about for awhile. Why do people go crazy whenever they see a celeberty? Please explain this to me. True, I've never met a celeberty, but I'm not going to lose my mind just because I meet one. It gets on my nerves, simply because when it all comes down to it, celeberties are just as human as the next person who works a job from nine to five, and even a bum on a street. And why do we live in a society that cares so much about the lives of celeberties instead of what's going on in the rest of the world? It seems to me that those kind of people can't deal with reality and have bury themselves in the lives of celeberties. Maybe it's because they don't get any fulfillment from their own lives, but geez, if that's the case then do something with yourself. Seek self improvement. Don't spend your time keeping up with the latetest gossip. Don't waste your time and engergy worrying about who Jennifer Lopez is going to marry next. Don't waste your time and engery worrying about where Brad Pitt is going to spend his next vaction. There is so much in the world that's happening, and lot's of people don't know about it because they're too busy worrying about the lives of celeberties who don't even know you exist. So, my messege is this, get with reality and accept what's happening in the world. Pay attention to more important things, you know, tihings that need to be changed. Don't let the glamorous lives of celeberties distract from what's really going on. Trust me, in the end it's more beneficial to know what's happening.

Well, that wasn't really a rant. But it pisses me off when people don't know that when there's some kind of civial war going on in Africa, or when people don't know if we're going to make it out of Iraq. But you can easily tell me when Brittney Spears is going to have a wild marriage? Pathetic, that is pathetic in my opinion.

MOndays suck b/c they officially let you know the weekend is over. I had an awesome weekend hung out with a bunch of friends. But I hate getting mixed signals from people then spending your week trying to figure what the hell they mean b/c your too chicken **** ask the person up front what the deal is.

hit me :p

I think it is a rant and agree on pretty much what you said. People who are obsessed with celebrities are usually sad pathetic individuals with no imagination and very little interest in the real world. They try to live their dreams and aspirations through the celebrities that they admire. They try to imagine them as distant members of their own family, and with the tabloids printing every little detail of celebrties lives they can live with them by proxy. Hence when they see them, or meet them, they think they know everything about them and treat them like long lost relatives. This can lead to extreme cases such as stalkers. I have stopped reading tabloid papers because of their constant printing of celebrities personal lives. I have better things to read than who J-lo is marrying or not.

When I read this - I was so reminded of this old song from English humorists and songwriters, Flanders and Swan...

I finally found the complete lyrics...

The Gasman Cometh

* (Michael Flanders / Donald Swann)

It was on the Monday morning when the gas-man came to call
The gas tap wouldn't turn, I wasn't getting gas at all
He pulled down all the skirting boards to try and find the main
And I had to call a carpenter to put them back again

Oh it all makes work for the working man to do

It was on the Tuesday morning the carpenter came round
He hammered and he chiselled and he said, Look what I've found
The floors are full of dry rot but I'll put them all to rights
Then he hammered through a cable and out went all the lights

Oh it all makes work for the working man to do

It was on a Wednesday morning the electrician came
He called me Mr. MacIntyre which isn't quite my name
He couldn't reach the fuse box without standing on the bin
And he put his foot through a window so I called the glazier in

Oh it all makes work for the working man to do

It was on the Thursday morning the glazier came along
With his blowtorch and his putty and his merry glazier's song
He put another window in, it took no time at all
So I had to get a painter in to come and paint the wall

Oh it all makes work for the working man to do

It was on a Friday morning that the painter made a start
With undercoats and overcoats he painted every part
He painted every corner but I found when he was gone
He'd painted over the gas tap and I couldn't turn it on

Oh it all makes work for the working man to do

On Saturday and Sunday they do no work at all
So it was on the Monday morning that the gasman came to call

(as sung by Iain MacKintosh)

Regards

I like the song. Now for my rant. I have been sat at my computer on and off for about the last 20 or 30 minutes. the TV is on in the background playing VH1. Everytime I have heard the adverts come on there has been the same bloody advert for ringtones featuring a character called 'The Crazy Frog'. I HATE THAT F****** FROG    🔫 Every advert break on every commercal station play that damn advert at least twice in one break. Thank the powers that be for the BBC and we don't have to suffer adverts on them. The worse thing is that that 'king frog has been mixed into a song and released into the pop charts and has a very good chance of being No.1 on Sunday. What has happened to people taste in music or am I just being an old fart? :kaioken: :banghead:

Hell no! That song and its frog are drive me mad! They've had loads of complaints about that bloody frog and they still havent taken it off the tv. Usually it only takes a few compliaints to rid the ad breaks of an offencive advert but that frog for some reason is immune.

At least you guys don't have to deal with having only 15 minutes worth of programming and 15 minutes worth of commericals like we have here in the States. I'm getting really tired of all these dumbass commericals they keep showing for tampons, beer, soda, cars, food, natural male enhancements (the worst by far), etc. They just keep getting worse and worse. Commerical television is one of the main reasons why I don't watch television anymore. Instead I stick with movies, music, internet, video games, and books. Hell of a lot better than watching the same television commerical over and over again about Bono and the U2 with their stupid speical edition version of the iPod, or Pepsi ripping off Coca Cola with their new Pepsi with lime. God will the torture ever end?!

Once again, I have something to rant about. It's all of these reality TV shows idiotic people keep coming up with. Why do they think these shows are a good idea? I'm sick of all of them, I didn't watch Survivor when it aired and I'm not going to waste my precious time watching now. I don't what those people were thinking when they came up with Fear Factor. What in God's name made these people come up with The Bachalor/Bachalorette? I hate them all!! :kaioken: Why don't they just stop!? Goodness, don't they realize that people are better off watching more important things on television? To me, reality TV shows are what keeping people from seeing decent TV programs. And don't get me started on the people that appear on these shows. I don't care if it's for money, either. You're not important, you're not special. You're are nothing more than an everday human being trying to get through life the best way you know how. There is no way that people can be that desparate to get on televison. And why does Donald Trump need a reality show? He's already a billionare.
Goodness, and reality shows, when it comes down to it, don't show much of reality. If people really want to see reality, why don't they take some time to switch the channel to a news program. You'll see how the Isareli's and Palistinians can't stop fighting and each and everyday it's always the worry that there will be another suicide bombing. That's reality. How about the situation in Iraq, the isurgents, the future of the people? That's reality.

I'm sorry if I offended anyone who likes reality shows, but this angers me to no end.

Well, I'm done for now. 😌

Don't feel bad, I hate them just as much as you do. I wish American programming was better, but it just seems to keep getting worse and worse in my opinion.

Doc:ramen:😄

There's A Reason Why They Call It TV Programming!

TV in general today sucks! Personally, I have never even watched one episode of Friends, Seinfeld, any reality show, or anything everyone else finds so popular and "Must See TV". I prefer Sam Waltons motto (founder of Wal Mart, (and DON'T EVEN get me started on that company), "Watch what everybody else is doing, and do the opposite." So, if I hear a show is so popular, or is must see TV, I make an extra effort not to watch it.

The reason why these shows are so popular is because that's what the American viewing audience wants. If the ratings weren't there, they wouldn't be on. As simple as that. Look at all the publicity that the Micahel Jackson trial is getting or any of the famous trials. It's what the people want. This just goes to show you the mentality of the American viewing audience. They would rather watch Friends than watch the news or find out what is going in the government. I'll bet more people voted for the assinine American Idol stars than voted in the last election. Remember, THEY DON'T CALL IT PROGRAMMING FOR NOTHING!

And all the while this is going on the new Patriot Act is taking away more and more of our rights and freedoms from right under our noses and the average American doesn't even care. A new bill was passed that will allow all interstates in the US to now charge tolls! In fact I'll wager that they don't even know about it! Gas has doubled in the last year and a half and no one cares. I'll bet that the majority of Americans can't even tell you how many US servicemen died in Iraq or were killed today. 15,000 illegals flood into the US every month and no one cares. And this is exactly what the government wants.

The only shows I'll watch on TV are ones that make me think like the News, Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, a few shows on Discovery, History, or Learning Channel, and the Tonite Show with Jay Leno because he makes me laugh with his jokes about what's really going on in our society. When I'm driving 8 hrs a night I only listen to talk shows and news programs on the satellite radio.

If you really want to see how stupid the Average American is, Leno has a weekly segment called "Jay Walking" where he goes out into the streets and asks adults with supposidly College educations, questions that any fourth grader would know, like, Who discovered America, What was Lincoln famous for, etc. Sometimes he will show people two pictures, one of an important person in government and one of a famous TV or movie star and 95% percent of the time, the person can name the famous TV person, but not the person in government. It really shows just how dumb the average American is.

Yes, the dumbing down of America has really take hold.

Thank you pointing that out Pachipro. I think television does make you more dumb. And yes, I've watched Jay Leno. How he goes up to random people ask them questions that they should know. I remember this one episode where a young woman didn't even know how many sides a pentagon had. And she didn't know what you call people from Hong Kong. Duh, they're chinese! Oh, but you can tell me when Brad Pitt starred in his first movie role. Stupid people! People need to get with reality. That stuff on Jay Leno may seem funny, but when you really look at it, it's the most pathetic display of ignorance. It's not funny, it's sad.

That's why I love this forum. Because I have the oppertunity to have intelligent discussions with intelligent people. :-)

What was Brad Pitts first movie role? I really don't know

Neither do I, :p But that's not important. But what is important is that Isreali and Palistinian conflict has to end starting with the people. :-)

Wait, why did I say that? :?

I have been unfortunate enough to see American TV when I was in the states. It seems that the entire system is based on viewing figures, not the fact that it might be interesting to people. In some ways some of the TV in the UK is trying to follow the US, which gives us some very crap shows (I no longer watch ITV). Any show in the US that is quirky or doesn't follow easy plots is cancelled. Which is a shame, because these are normally better shows. Fortunatly the BBC has to produce a balanced mix of TV programmes.
Saying that I am currently listening to a CD instead of watching the glowing cyclops.
I hate people who complain about the programmes that they have watched and how such programmes should be shown. If you don't like it SWITCH IT OFF and find something else to do. People managed before TV I am sure they can manage now. Just use your brain, before it turns into mush.

Yeah, you know, back then TV shows were much better for some reason. My favorite shows used to be Full House, Family Matters, Doogy Howser MD, and The Wonder Years. But those shows are gone now. 😭 I know they still show re-runs for them, but still. :(

Oh, please! Enough with the senseless whining about television! It's the oldest argument in the book!

Bottom line: the only way TV can dumb you down is if you allow it to! If you're willing to look aorund, intelligent shows can be found, either OTA (over the air) or on cable, but most people aren't willing to look, so they settle for all the inane nonsense on the networks, then ***** like little kids when they can't find anything decent to watch.

As for those people on Leno, sure they messed up, mainly because they probably had been told that they'd be on live TV, and they predictably freaked. You try being on camera in front of millions of people and answer a simple question, chances are you'd be so nervous, you wouldn't be able to spell your own name. I know I couldn't!

Regarding Brad Pitt's first movie role, I think it was Se7en, but I could be wrong.

You know that reality television shows are pointlss. And yes, I'm quite aware that there is decent shows on TV. But this is a rant thread. What I don't understand is why most people seem to choose to watch that garbage. And if people know they're going be nervous on TV, they shouldn't be on it!
