The Bummer and Rant Thread

Wow I feel for you guys. My parents stopped invading my privacy about the time puberty hit me like a truck. Maybe american mothers are less prone to do these things? I think there was a movement back in the 70's that told them it wasn't good for them to invade their kids lives so much, or something like that :-)

Btw, thanks lexico :-) I am going to stop by the store on the way home and get some microfiber cloths and rubbing alcohol and I'll give it a try. Do you think I should just dry them at room temperature out of the sunlight?

But anyway, I need to finish signing my ex-girlfriend up for this internet dating site. You honestly don't want to know what I set her title up to be *evil grin*

Hell I'm 20 years old, and my mother still wants to know how much money I make, and what I buy and don't buy with it. As for your ex, Mal I'm surprised you would do something like that for her. Then after thinking about it for awhile I can see why you would. I'm guessing what you set up for her title has something to do with the word "prosititute".:D

As for you Lexico, I'm sorry to hear about your snails. That's one reason alone I want to never get married. Sure the sex is good, but even that dies out over time.:p Personally I like snails and think they're kind of cute. Sure I wouldn't want to eat them, but I wouldn't mind having them as pets.:-) Personally if I were you, buy more snails to get your wife back.👍

Thanks, Doc. The sex is good only because of the kids...I'm going to get bashed for this ! But it really is. The joy of seeing a child come into the world was the best thing ever. It's special, wonderful, even cosmic. When my first born came out, we made eye contact. It was as if he knew me all the time, and wanting to say, "Glad to meet you Dad !" I still remember that morning; the air, the sky, danced with bubbling emotions. Farming snails and fish is similar, especially if there are signs that they like you or your style. There's a wonderful feeling when I can see that. To love and be loved in return, just like in the songs. :-)

Interesting way you said it. There's a snail legend where it's a magical girl who comes to your house to cook and clean, and eventually turns into a beutiful girl. If you ever find food prepared, house cleaned, and it wasn't your mom, then remember, it could be the snail girl who did it. 😊

Ciao!
Hey, Don't leave like that. Although it may sound like a boy's thread, it works just the same as the girlie-talk threads where a lot of guys participate, too. So anything you want to let off steam, be our guest. This is one place you can do it without feeling bad about it ! 🙂

o.k. rant and raving has turned anti-women (because they throw out your snails) well, I like snails and I like to buy more green stuff for the aquariums in the house and hope that more snails will arrive tucked in their leaves.

I`ll rant and rave about my husband because he changes his clothes in the living room and leaves whatever he took off on the couch and leaves his coffee cup wherever he wants so when he leaves for work I get to go around picking up all his stuff and putting it away. And don`t think I`m a neat freak , because I am not, but with 5 people in this house, just a little bit of "putting away your own stuff" would be appreciated.......

o.k. someone else, rant on....

Thank you for loving the snails. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. My dead snails can go to heaven now. 🙂

Fair enough. Have a family meeting to set up rules to abide by. The standards of cleanliness always seems to be the greatest obstacle... Could it be the hormones ? Eternal mystery. How about setting territorial boundaries to each family member, and put them in charge of keeping the place clean. If not, fine ! Enforce the law, but not cleaning for them. Hmm... But I understand your frustration; it could get as nerve racking as finding beloved pets dead. :(

Lexico,

Dude, you had me until the magical snail girl thing. Then you totally lost me.

Oh and janimagee -

he leaves for work I get to go around picking up all his stuff and putting it away. And don`t think I`m a neat freak , because I am not, but with 5 people in this house, just a little bit of "putting away your own stuff" would be appreciated.......

Women have to understand that while they see relatively normal men as slobs pretty much all the time, men are always going to see relatively normal women as neat freaks as well. Our two sexes just do not see eye to eye on this issue. The propper way to deal with this is to find things that your husband can do, that you don't want to do, and make him do them (so long as this doesn't involve cleaning!). My grandmother was a master of this and it worked well for her generation for instance:

- John, go and shovel the driveway.
- John, go mow the grass.
- John, go trim the hedges.
- John, go trim the trees.
- John, I want (you) to paint this room.
- John, replace all these lights.
- John, rake all the leaves.
- John, you need to fix <insert broken thing here, usually the damn deck>

etc.

You see the key here is to understand male psychology. They will adamantly refuse to do any amount of work unless they are either bribed or guilted into it. It's hard to guilt a normal man into doing house work because they just don't see the necessity of it (If its good enough for me, its good enough for everyone!) However, if you can discover the things that your husband feels that he is required to do, he will do them without complaint and remorse!

It's just a sad fact that modern life doesn't provide men with much outlet for their male instincts. Most men are perfectly ok with sweating their asses off doing back breaking work for their family to the point where they nearly kill themselves, but honestly could give a rats *** less about a picking up their socks :-)

Maybe modern life is just too convienent for men to exist anymore? :(

no, it`s much much simpler than "hormones" and gender differences and anything in between.... he works at a job and brings home a salary. I stay home and keep the house. There it is in a nutshell. when he enters the house, his job is over.... period... everything else is up to me. (the yard included) bribery, guilt , just plain asking is not effective. That`s the way it is and it ain`t gonna change. He doesn`t give a rats *** if the clothes on the couch bother me. He would actually prefer that they stay right there so that when he comes home he could change his clothes in the living room.....

Well, I guess if it makes you feel better you can look at it this way:

You may feel like you can't escape, but knowing Japanese businesses your husband is just as screwed as you are :p

I KID! I KID!!

Actually I was just trying to be funny all along, sorry I failed :(

Oh, don't get me started on the whole Japanese male issue...

Honestly, this is why I feel like you poor ladies often get the worse part of deal :p

I think you are being a little hard on yourself. As your husband said, he's perfectly happy if the living room's a little messy, or happier that way. Is it that hard to overlook just a little mess ? Actually it feels like a burrow (no offence; guys are just kids), home sweet home, a snug place, and it feels like my little hole. Sorry I'm not being very supportive here, just trying to show a slightly different point of view. Yes. definitely a cultural (male-vs.-female values) and territorial thing. I know it's difficult, but a little shift of view could make things a lot easier, wouldn't it ? Yes, by relaxing the high, stiff standards of a woman, you could lower the tension, so to speak, and be one happy family again. On the other hand, you could have him adjust just a little so it's not as disturbing as it used to. Sorry for going on. 😌

Yeah, I don't worry about the house being spic and span. I mean, I do keep it pretty tidy, but we do have 3 boys, ages 7, 5, and 4, so it's pretty impossible to keep it spotless. He doesn't complain, so I guess I'm lucky in that way. He told me one time that one of the problems he had with Japanese women was that they were too perfectionistic for him.

He has made the comment that if a house is too neat and clean, it feels uncomfortable. He prefers it "lived in".

That's exactly how I feel, and it's so hard to find acceptance for this kind of loose thinking. I guess I need another boy to help me out because I only have two. This is just the male point of view btw.
I'm Not complaining about Japanese women. No way, I think they are nice. :) 🙂

You know, I just realized that I change my clothes in the living room as well. And the last woman who came over to my house cleaned my bathroom. I wonder if she likes me?

Maybe I am not as advanced as I think.

Me Tarzan. You Jane.

well, I honestly don`t have any trouble with clutter (most of the crap in the house is mine, or the kids... 3 of them... 9,7,and 4) and I don`t have any trouble with actually picking things up.... BUT I work at home, with people coming in and out everyday and I have to keep the living room neat. Just one room.... so the rant here is...... everyone in this house knows that the living room needs to be picked up and straightened up . that`s it. Can we go back to the snails now.???

By the way I totally agree that men are trapped in jobs with long hours, not many options and even "weekends" and evenings get infringed upon... whereas I have so many choices and much more freedom... I gotta feel for my husband, I just wish he would walk his damn jeans and shirt into the bedroom, and the coffee cup into the sink!!!!!

oh and the last day of school is this thursday and I get to have 3 kids in the house all day everyday until school starts again!!!!! I can`t even imagine 3 months of summer vacation in the states (which I enjoyed very much as a kid!!) anyway...

someone else`s turn to rave on!!!!

I think I could write pages of similar rant to Doc's original post about school or university. I don't know if I was particularily unlucky with the teachers/professors I had, but these kind of things (or worse) just happened all the time. Very discouraging.

In highschool, I had a chemistry teacher who would give "zero" (like a "F") to anybody who did not give back their (monthly) test sheet immediately when he passed around the benches. Even 1 sec. late and that's a zero. Many other teachers would just say stop at the end of the test, and if you even dared finish to write the word you were writing, that was also "zero".

Some teachers had intimidating methods. Anybody disturbing the class (murmuring, exchaning messages, sleeping, etc.) would basically have little chances to pass the year's final exam, and thus be forced to repeat that year (i.e. waste one year of their life, and get lower chances to get a good job). Never happened to me, but every year 5 to 10% of the students failed and had to repeat a year (that usually meant also move to another school).

Some of my teachers would also "mistake" in the test corrections, and for some reasons they always found errors where it was correct. With some teachers I had to complain after almost every test for quite a few such correction mistakes for each test. I even had to go to complain to the schoolmaster about one teacher who really abused it.

The same happened again at university. The lecturer who corrected the law exams mistook in the correction of 2 different exams. When I met him and showed that this and that was correct, but he marked them as wrong, he actually admitted that it was his mistake, but then he just said that it was too late and that the results could not be changed as they had already been published, and that anyway it didn't affect me as I passed with 15/20 instead of 18/20. How are students supposed to be motivated with such reasonings ?

The worst of all were those teachers/professors who rated students at face value at the oral exams (both at school and university, but especially the former). It kind of worked like this : cute girl, short skirt = high score; annoying male student who ask embarassing or unanswerable questions during the lessons because he knows his stuff = not so good score. I guess it happens everywhere. School teachers are like politicians, they are partial and easily corrupted. I wish I could have become the schoolmaster and fire any teacher that is not totally fair and impartial. But anyway, there would be millions more in other schools and other countries...

Hey Maciamo? Do you think you could sticky this thread so other people have a place to rant in? Pretty Please? :? :( 😭

Doc:ramen:😄

I swear somebody better sticky this thread before I start shooting with my .38. Today is a very bad day for me. I'm three seconds from choking a *****. Here's a little inside scoop on how it has gone bad for me.

-When I first got up in the morning to read my morning newspaper from my e-mail, I found out the internet was disconnected. My Mother didn't pay for the damn bill again. (This is the 20th time in seven years that she's done this.)

-My Mother forgot to take the movie "The Forgotten" back to the video rental shop. That's two days late. Guess who had to take it back?

-The street next to our block is being all dug up for a sewer replacement. I had to take a long way to my college, and it naturally made me late.

-As I was walking to class, the cap on my water bottle decided to become unscrewed spilling water all over me and my notes.

-When I got my exam back from my World Civilization teacher, I found out that I failed it miserbly.

-My Mother is running for mayor today, nuff said.

-Because it's election day, I had to go back all the way home to get my mother her tennis shoes since her pennyloafers split. Another wasted trip.

-Then I had to go four towns over to pay for the stupid internet bill since my Mother can't do it.

-I'm a full time student so I don't have a job. What little money I do have from helping people I save up for my savings. Guess what? With gas prices being over $2.13 I had to pay for the gas in the SUV today. Great, now I don't have the money to pay for my bid that I won on e-bay.

-I have to study like crazy for the rest of day because I have a huge political science exam tomorrow.

-It's going to rain soon too.

My day just keeps getting better and better. >____>

My Mother lost the election.
