Tibet wasn't just conquered out of the blue. It was already a part of China. It just took advantage of the chaos of revolution and the civil war to attempt to break away.Golgo_13 said:So should Tibet.
Mao Tse Dung's conquests of 50 years ago should not be held valid today.
The question is what the people in that particular province/region/state feel. The Tibetans have a distinct ethnicity, language & culture. If they want to be a separate nation, why not!?DaMo said:If Tibet had a right to take advantage of the chaos in the country in the early 20th century to assert independence, then any Chinese province has the right to do so, and for that matter, any province of any country in the world.

Yeah denying independence to (N. ) Ireland isn't the problem. Although how N. Ireland and EIRE got to their current population mix has a lot to do with the problem.Golgo_13 said:Correct me if I'm wrong. The Republic of Ireland, with a population predominantly Catholic, is an independent State.
Northern Ireland, a UK territory, has mixed Catholic and Protestant population. The Protestants in N. Ireland prefer to remain under British rule.
Actually, from Korea, for the most part.jim83 said:all japanese is moved to island from china

Tibet was a part of Chinese territory during the Qing dynasty - this fact is acknowledged by every objective historian and cartographer. In 1907, Britain and Russia signed a treaty recognizing China's continued sovereignty over Tibet. Tibet's attempted declaration of independence in 1913 was not recognized by the world powers of the time, but the post-Qing Chinese Republic's sovereignty over Tibet was. Even in 1947, when Tibet was supposedly "independent", a Tibetan delegation travelled to Nanjing to partake in the drafting of a new national Chinese constitution (a constitution which included Tibet as well). No standing Chinese government EVER granted Tibet independence (as opposed to Mongolia, whose independence was recognized by China). China's reestablishment of control over Tibet was part of its consolidation of central government over all Chinese territories after the civil war. If Tibet had a right to take advantage of the chaos in the country in the early 20th century to assert independence, then any Chinese province has the right to do so, and for that matter, any province of any country in the world.
Just because the government changes or there is a power struggle or even a world war doesn't mean any province can declare independence when they feel like it.

So does that mean that U.K. is also inferior to China, becasue they happen to be an island nation as well?
You know that's something I never truly understood about oriental folks.
A lot of them seem to dwell in the past, and complain about events that occured long ago as if it happened yesterday.
What is it all about?
How did this childish behavior start?
Do these individuals have some kind of social insecurities, feel that they need to have something to prove or what?
It's okay to be proud of being Chinese,Japanese or what not,but screw all that I have the ILLnificent gene...I'm straight up ILL.
Asian folks seem to be the most racist folks I've ever seen.
I'm part oriental myself, but it's behavior like this which makes me ashamed to be sharing the same genes as these punks.
They just don't know how to behave.

There are a lot of people who "want independence" from so-and-so country. If that were the only qualification, the world would today be a patchwork of clan-ruled states. My own country is racked with insurgencies, which is why I can relate to what China is facing. I don't like Communists any more than you do. But this is about China, not the CCP. Tibet was already a part of the China before China "invaded" it. Even Britain signed it back to China in 1910 (unlike their usual blundering departures), after a brief period of colonial control, when it wrested the province from the Chinese domain. Tibet certainly has a longer history with China than Okinawa does with Japan. For that matter, Okinawa has a longer history with China than it does with Japan, considering it was China's tributary for three centuries.
That's not to say I support the CCP's policies in Tibet, but I do not support their policies in the rest of China either. In fact, I strongly disagree with them. That doesn't mean I want the whole of China to fall apart. The CCP will eventually be forced to come to terms with an educated politically-aware Chinese population bent on greater liberty, and things will change for the better.

At the ancient time, there is no a country called China. Instead, there were seven kingdoms ツ秦 窶録 齐 窶ーツ 韩 テゥツー 赵. They had different lanuages and using the different fonts. These kingdoms having wars every years and people living in a hardship. lately, ツ秦ナスnツ皇, The King from the north defeated all seven contries with strong army and became the first emperor of China. That's why China is called China because ツ秦 was pronounced "Chin"
That's a little bit about Chinese history, The thing I want to say was after seven kingdoms became one country, people was living blessedly. They didn't have to worry about their sons who forced to join military and cryed for his father who starved to death.
I hope one day that the whole earth will be under a simple country. no racialism, no war, so everybody will live happily. ^^
BTW I think you guys should watched movie called 窶ーp窶悩. It was played by Jet Lee. I think it was played in most of the NY theater around Auguest or settember 2004( not sure)
you have the talent to write for the People's Daily.kiuyiw said:"The thing I want to say was after seven kingdoms became one country, people was living blessedly.")
