The NFL draft is coming up in a couple weeks. Anybody have opinions on who they want their team to draft?

On a USC note, Lendale White has a torn hamstring that'll likely cause his draft stock to fall...poor guy.

I can't wait for the NBA playoffs to start. As we near the close of the regular season, we can already see guys, and whole teams, taking nights off to stay fresh. I was hoping the Clippers would stay at the 6 so they could play Denver, but I don't know if that's going to happen.

My votes for the year: Kobe for MVP, Boris Diaw Most Improved, and I'm still undecided on CoachOTY.
 
I think the Titans (my favorite team) will wind up drafting Matt Leinart. I would rather see them look toward another position (they need several), but I know Leinart is a great player and will work out fine.
 
My Eagles need a defensive lineman, but I don't know off the top of my head who's avaialble as I don't follow the college game all that much.

Kobe for MVP? Give me a break!!! If anyone deserves that award, it's LeBron James for finally getting the Cavs back into the playoffs for the first time in something like seven years. Coach of the Year? My voye's for Phoenix's Mike D'Antoni who's got the Suns in serious contention despite not having Amare Stoudamire for all but three games.
 
I think Kobe is definitely in the discussion, as is LeBron. Either would be a solid choice and it will probably come down to those two. You could throw Gilbert Arenas, Dwayne Wade, and maybe even Vice Carter in the talk.

Even though I don't like him, I'd have to take Kobe as the MVP.
 
I think Kobe will take the MVP Trophy home. There are so many solid players that have a good chance. But it's all Kobe.
 
I think Kobe is a ball hog and really bad teammate in the locker room and media, but he's having a season for the ages. This guy is dropping 40+ points fairly regularly. That 81-point night was something special.

Who do you guys think will play in the Championship?

I'd love to see the Wizards and the Kings, but my pick would have to be the Heat and Clippers. I think Miami will take it all the way.
 
I think that the MVP trophy in the NBA is worthless! There is no set criteria for what the MVP is! IMO Kobe is not the MVP...he is the best player in the league right now, but not the MVP!

An MVP makes the other players around him better. Kobe doesn't do that.

Kobe- all around best player in the league this year, but his team will not have a chance to win it all even with him there!


Nash- MVP! Look at what he did. Stoudemire's been out. Almost an entire new team, and here they are in the playoffs with a definite shot to win! Without Nash, his team would not have made it this far, he has to win the trophy!

(all that said, I really hate Steve Nash with a passion...but I respect what he has done this year!)
 
It all depends on the criteria you decide for MVP. I look at it as how many games a team would win without a player. Without Billups, the Pistons would still win at least 45-50 games. Without Nash, with the emergence of Diaw and Marion's consistency, the Suns still win around 40-45. Without Kobe, the Lakers win maybe 25. This is a team that, without Kobe, has a starting lineup of Smush Parker, a player no one wanted, Sasha Vujacic, a 1 dimensional role-player, Lamar Odom, an inconsistent 2nd option, Kwame Brown, #1 pick bust, and Chris Mihm, an average center. Throw Kobe in and they win 45 games. The only other player that has to carry his team as much in the MVP conversation is Lebron, and even he has help in the form of former all-star Ilgauskus and a decent #2 in Hughes.
 
I would be happy if Nash ended up with it. He's a great player, and contributes well to his team.
 
Everyone seems to gloss over the fact that Steve Nash is one of the worst defensive point guards in the league. Among the MVP candidates, Kobe is above average, Lebron is average, Billups is good, Dirk is average, and Brand (cuz I'm a clipper fan) is above average.

Amen! I'd take Jason Kidd or Gilbert Arenas over Nash anyday.

Bah! Kidd's more of a shooting guard than a point guard, and Arenas' shooting percentage drops in every quarter, so he can't be counted on in the clutch.

As for who we'll see in the Finals, unless somebody shocks the world, I see a rematch of the Spurs and Pistons. And ABC is scared sick of that matchup because that would be death in the ratings, just like when those teams faced each other last year.
 
I think Arenas is more of a shooting guard than Kidd. Kidd has probably the best all around game of the three, but is probably the worst shooter. Nash is a good shooter and can score on just about anyone, but he doesn't do much on the other end of the floor. Arenas is a scorer and can kill teams when he gets hot. Or he can kill his own team when he's cold.

I'm pulling for the Clips/Heat Finals as well, but it's going to be tough for LA, with little playoff experience, to get past teams like Dallas and San Antonio. Cassell is a great leader, but when your big scorers (Brand and Maggette) haven't been there much, it's going to be tough. I like their chances against Denver, but Carmelo is going to be the key. He could end up going off for 35 a night because he's such a tough matchup.

Unfortunatley, I agree with Flashjeff that it probably will be Pistons/Spurs. At least this year Detroit has some offensive punch.

I hope I'm wrong, but I just don't see it. In the East, Detroit is just too strong for the other teams in the conference. Miami has I think the best chance to pull the upset, but I just don't know if Shaq and Wade can matchup with everything the Pistons can throw at them, especially since Detroit goes a good nine to ten deep, too much for the Heat to handle.

In the West, there's a better chance of an upset. I used the Ric Flair theorem to explain why I went with San Antonio. For those of you unfamiliar with legendary the legendary wrestler, Flair was famous for saying the following: "To be the man, you have to beat the man!" And until someone beats the Spurs, I have to go with them, but I think Phoenix or Dallas has the best chance to win, however, it won't be easy.

Still, the playoffs should be mighty interesting!

I think the Wizards can beat the Pistons if they make it that far. They went 3-0 against them in the regular season and I think they match up with Detroit better than any other team does. I think Washington will lose to Miami in the Conference Finals, but I hope they go all the way.
 
How bout them Clippers?! Absolutely dominating performance last night. They got production from all over and took Carmelo out of his game for the second time in a row. Melo's shooting like 12-41 for the series, and if their team can't run, they can't really score. I hope they lose a game in Denver so I can go to game 5.
 
Is anyone else following the NBA playoffs closely? These have been great. Almost every series has been tight. Even the Bucks had some flashes against the Pistons.

I'm holding out hope for the Wizards and Kings, but they're both down 3-2.
 
Clippers advanced! I'm happy for those guys, but especially for Brand, who has known nothing but losing in this league. He put it all together this year, and they look to have a great shot at advancing to the conference finals, no matter who comes out of PHX-LAL. I expect the Lakers to beat PHX tonite, especially since Raja decided to be an idiot and get suspended...dumbest move in the playoffs so far. His team is trying to come back from 3-1, he's their best defender guarding the best player in the series, and he does something like that when they're up by 15. Stupid.

The Wiz looked terrible in OT last night, letting Eric Snow (!) get to the rack on successive posessions and gave up a layup(!!!) to LeBron with 3 seconds left.

Yes, it pains me to say it but their defense was AWFUL in OT. Granted Jared Jefferies, their best defender, had fouled out but that's still no excuse for letting LeBron score on a layup in the final seconds while he was being double teamed.

That has been a great series though. It's fun watching Arenas and LeBron go back and forth like they have.
 
With the Wizards and the Kings gone, now I'm pulling for a Heat/Clippers Finals.

The Nets are looking tough, with Kidd's passing and Vinsanity's shooting, but when Shaq and Wade are both on, I don't see anyone stopping Miami.

I think you forgot about that team which calls Detroit home. You may have heard of them, they're called the Pistons. Despite that glitch on Saturday, the Pistons will brush off Cleveland like so much dandruff, then pretty much do the same to Miami. Shaq and Wade are great, but Detroit has weapons of their own and can handle the Heat. Meanwhile, even if the Clippers get past Phoenix, they'll still have San Antonio or Dallas to contend with, and I doubt if they can get past them.
 
Heartbreaker of a loss in PHX last night. Raja Bell made a great shot, but there were way too many mental errors on both sides of the ball and questionable calls. Clips gotta win in LA to force a game 7. I never thought they'd get this far this year, but I'm not ready for the ride to end.

Detroit has looked alternately dominant and terrible in the postseason. Why are they even letting the Cavs hang around, and without their 2nd best player? They're finishing games with a 2nd year guy in Varejao making plays on both ends, and the Pistons can't score late. What happened to the new, "freer" offense? Sheed's mouth finally caught up with him (hilariously), but I still think Detroit wins this one. Only now it'll be in 7 instead of in 5, like it should have been. They're giving Miami a chance to get healthy, and that could be big considering guys like Walker are finally contributing.

Prediction: Dallas puts their series in game 6. Dirk will be rested for the CFs and the Mavs beat the Suns in 6.

On a baseball note, what the hell is up with my Angels????
