Holland and Portugal game was very tense atmosphere, so many yellow and red card within a single game ..... now England will face Portugal with two of them main player not available for the next match because of the red cards.

I don't think you should be so pleased about that cuz even with those players out portugal in my view is strong enough to beat england who have played rather dull and plain and have had big help from lady luck

I thought that the England v. Ecuador game was pretty good. Not a lot of scoring, but a good battle. Beckham hit a beautiful goal to win it.

Look, I don't mind your anti-Dutch sentiments but try to support what you think of the teams/tournament with some arguments. God I hate that.
Ah well, you got your wish anyway. Holland lost to Portugal 1-0 in an unbelievable match..

Sry its only ,when it gets to football that I see the dutch as our arche enemy but usualla their ok to have around.👍

As for some arguments ,well the last 2 times germay won the wc the fans were equally enthusiastic and both times the media sort of pushed the team even further ,which gave them extra confidence ,which also is the case at this wc.
And the most important reason if germany plays as one homogene team they are able and very probably will beat every other team.

Yeah but englands game isn't a lives on hard tackles and sort of intimidating the opponent ,they destroy more of the enemys game ,than building up their own game so I think they will beat portugal.

Holland has Van Basten to blame... no v. nilsteroy, no seedorf...weird youngsters in defense and atack...wat the hell was kyut, he suked big time...better leave now than later on

I think the ref ruined the holland v portugal game by being far too harsh. If he was sensible and calmed the game down then both teams could have played on with 11 men and a fair result could have been acheived.

Despite the suspensions portugal now have I still think they'll beat England as they're not as good as the English media are making out.

Italy on the other hand should easily beat Ukraine and secure their place in the semis, and who knows may even go on to win it. But I recently found out that Nostradamus predicted Spain to win the world cup " In the sixth month of the year 2006 the King of Spain will cross the Pyranees with his armies and do battle in central Europe. He will then return to Spain with the Holy Grail. " read into that what you will.

Could you please never ever say something bad about Kuyt again please? I admit he wasn't that productive during the W-cup, but he is one of the most hard-working players in the Dutch competition, and he can be a good leader eventually.
I don't think it is "fair" to blame Van Basten. He made some weird choices indeed, but it is part of a bigger plan to build a great "Oranje"; many player are still young, and maybe too young for this W-cup, but the qualifications for Euro 2008 start in September, and the players now will be even more mature in South Africa in 2010! We will get the cup eventually.
But I do admit he hasn't shown the world how Holland traditionally plays football. The Germans I have to admit (although against weaker opponents) have shown how we used to play football; offensive, aggressive but also very all-round. We'll just have to wait and see how Van Basten will perform in 2008 and 2010. (If he decides to extend his contract ofcourse.) I hope it will be the good old "totaal voetbal".

That's hilarious!! I wouldn't mind Spain winning the World Cup. England doesn't look convincing indeed, Brazil is not delivering what they promised, Portugal.. Ah well. If I have to bet I'd bet either on Germany (home advantage, and they do play pretty well) or Argentina.

Well it looks like Nostradamus was wrong!
6 of the last 8 teams look pretty strong (England and Ukraine being the weak ones). I reckon any of these 6 teams could go on to win it and every game from now on should be pretty entertaining.

Well, V.Nisterlrooy did play in the world cup, but he just sucked in the first 3 matches, so I agree that van basten didn`t bring himツ in. Seedorft, I think this will always stays a discussion.

You know in the beginning I was indeed afraid of the defence, but I think we proved that we actually have a real strong defence. having only 2 goals against them in 4 matches ( don`t forget they played against Argentina, and Ivory Coast, who both had a reall strong attack. And also in the matches before the World Cup, we only had a couple of goals against us.

The only thing that we were missing, and that`s something that you could really see: some players with more expierence, such as Jaap Stam in the back, and a guy such as Seedorf in the middle.

To bad we couldn`t do it this time, hopefully next time... but it`s getting a bit annoying to say the next next next time all the time!:(

ah no worries....brazil will end up wining it anyways so all the teams will soon feel like you guys :p

After watching the French team yesterday, I believe that whoever wins the match between the French and Brazil will win it all. I think that France has a real chance in that match.

I think France got luky that the spaniards played their defens up too much...i'd be very surprised if they manage to beat brazil, but even if they do i don't think they can go all the way........so far truthfully i have not seen a team that is above all others, maybe after this next round we'll get a clearer picture.

The way it looked to me, the French team had a lot of speed. You may be right though.

About the Portugal - Netherlands match, a local newspaper called it, brilliantly I should say, the Battle for Nuremberg.
I might be biased but I'm seeing the Portuguese team highly motivated, cohesive and with a strong mind to outdo their best performance in a world cup, which was a 3rd place in 1966. Even without 3 star playes like Deco, Costinha and Jorge Andrade (Who missed the cup because of injury ), I still think that Portugal is the favourite against England.

I agree...portugal impressed me highy, they play a very attractive football for a european side, a lot of imagination and skill, and i simply loved the game with holland, it was full of heart and emotions....the players really cared about the outcome,,, i enjoyed immensely, especially having miguel neutralize robben like a lil school boi..... the mediterranean blood was boiling in the portugese though i feel sm things were stupid like deco's second yellow...... i hope i see Brazil v Portugal ....that would be a great match, not just for the obvious historic links, but also because both teams play so technical that it would be highly entertaining to see them face off....

Forza Azzurri!!!!!!🙂

Forza indeed......hopefully toni and gilardino can start scoring a bit more and totti will hopefully be in good condition so that they increase up their gameplay a bit upfront, that would make them very dangerous indeed...seeing how hard it is to score against them, one goal only in 4 games and it was an own goal.

well tmrw already we have a WC classic, arg - ger
any predictions ?
