What is your mother tongue ?

What languages do you speak at native or near native level ?

Completely fluent in English and Korean. Some German, less French and a smidge of Japanese.

What's your favorite part about being able to speak in multiple languages? I guess mine would have to be what my father said of his relationship with my mother: the ability to converse with someone in multiple languages (between them, they speak 5 languages-full proficiency) means that you can understand that person in multiple ways.
 
My Mother Tongue Is Spanish. Although My English Is Now At The Same Level. I Know Only Some French. And Now I'm Learning Japanese.
 
English, hacker, french, and umm... spanish.
In order of best to worst.

In order of proficiency, I speak French, English, Vietnamese, Spanish, Dutch, and Japanese. Had my parents spoken the same Chinese (my father speaks Mandarin and my mother Cantonese), I could have had that language too...

I speak Vietnamese as my mother tongue. Also English, perhaps well enough to survive academically and socially.

In no particular order: Korean, English, German, French and Mandarin. They only spoke Mandarin when they wanted to keep things from us kids (we never lived in a country where it was spoken, so my sister and I never got a chance to learn it)
 
Hi there, these are the languages I can speak fairly well:

Spanish = native
English = advanced
Japanese = advanced
French = intermediate
Portuguese = basic
 
First language

I only spaek English fluently as it it is my language. I have basic french as taught a British schools and a few phrases in German. I find dutch a fairly easy language to read because it has words that are common with English. I am currently learning japanese and can read the kana scripts now. Just have to get the spoken and comprehension part done next.

My mother thong is French. I speak English fluently and learning japanese (still very basic)
 
My mother tongue "was" hawaiian, but now that I speak english/pidgin I kind of lost the will to speak hawaiian.

now I'm into all sorts of different languages that interesting me.

I sort of regret and wished that I could speak hawaiian again, even though english is like a virus.
 
I can speak English pretty well, I can write papers and read academic texts in it... which I can't do in Japanese. (well maybe crappy papers)

I'm a native speaker in the sense that I feel comfortable in japanese and can converse with ease. I'm still studying japanese because my formal education in Japanese isn't very far. I guess my japanese is probably comparable to a japanese person that's not that educated, but is still japanese.
 
Indonesian was my first language, english my second.. And then now I'm considering learning many languages to pursue my dream of being a polyglot.. (yeah right )

anyhow, my german is crap T_T, Ich Bin Yose, Gutentag!
my spanish is pretty embarrassing as well, como estas!
my french is even worse, Ce netait pas de ma faute XD
my japanese is worst, please teach me onegai

at this rate, I should just speak languages randomly depending on which languages i can speak a word on ^^
 
My mom is a Thai but I was born in Indonesia....^^..
 
hix hix! I'm wondered why you all know so many languages. I was born in Viet Nam, and I'm Vietnamese. I'm not so bad in English but my Japanese is reall terrible! how can I improve it?
 
I use to speak french fluently, but I don't speak it very well anymore.
I speak english though, it being my mother tongue.
 
Well, my mother tongue is Finnish. Other than that, I speak fluent English and somewhat poor Swedish (It is the second language in Finland, so I _should_ speak it well). I also know _very_ few words in German, French, Italian, Spanish and Japanese. So those are hardly worth mentioning.

My native language is supposidly Chinese and Japanese, but I can only speak Chinese fluently. For Chinese, I can speak Cantonese and Mandarin and understand other Chinese languages although I can't speak them nor know what they're called -_-"... I'm currently learning Japanese and French, though. ^_^

Hmong people used to live in China. They all had blonde hair and blues, but the Chinese killed all the men and raped the woman. Today some few rare hmong's still have blonde hair. There are some living in china, they're hmong chinese (speak half hmong and half chinese). My parents lived in Laos, but they came over to the United States during the Vietnamese War as refugees.

that's really funny cuz i was just talking to a vietnamese guy about my language the other other day. It's pretty easy to learn (don't ask me to teach i'm still learning myself) , it has a small vocabulary, we say the r's like l's....etc.

Thanks Enix_fan. Actually I was goning to ask you that, but you read my mind...o smart one *pokes_pokes*
But when you feel that you've learned enough, you could start a small class, and they will all look up to you with bright, eager eyes, in the hopes that you might utter a word that will guide them one word closer to the langauge...but no pressure. You're are here to have a good time. But yes, thanks for the knowledge. The personal thing always makes such a strong impact, don't forget things that easy, you know. Much appreciated, Enix_fan.
