W/do Japanese parents generally think of their Daughter going out w/Foriegner/America

See her folks, they are about to be your folks too anyway.

You should have asked this question when you're having a relationship with her, if you think that to suddenly pop up on her parents with the message that you two are about get married might be unnerving, just think that, they would be more disturbed to find out that the two of you are already in a relationship for awhile.

I guess that the only advice one can give is to treat your girlfriend's parents like your own. After all, when you married someone, in a kind of way you also married her family. I think that the answer is clear, see her folks and talk to them.

Hero,

I understand it must be hard for you. My parents are very traditional in their ways too, especially my father. If her parents are as strict and traditional as you say they are, than you and your girlfriend need to tell her parents. My parents always say that they want my husband to be of asian decent. however, they left room for my happiness. They told me as long as he went to college to get a degree and will eventually make really good money. Then, it did not matter what ethnicity he was.

Hears a plan using me as an example:
If me and my boyfriend wanted to get married. I'd make him go see my parents and make him ask for permission to marry me, that way my father feels respected and he won't lose face. Don't forget to come bearing gifts that are well wrapped--a japanese thing!!!
Also, explain to them that you have enough financial stability and are able to support her(you know able to give her a goodlife). They will ask you about your education, just to make sure you were well educated and can get a good job. Show them how much you love each other, so there's no room for doubt...if they feel that there is, the'll think you might divorce her. Which, is not good.

It's a lil sinister, but that's the only way my dad will let a man marry me. Interrogation is to be expected.
