I just saw this video on Youtube about a foreigner trying to pick up girls and it made me think that this could be a problem, you know, with all the problem of many Japanese people not being so fond of foreigners and it makes me worried because in this video the guy is scaring the girls away and is stalking them to some extent.

What's your opinion about it? Is it alright for him to keep doing it or is it just dtrimental to the image of gaijin in Japan?

Mauricio

You have always cool and discussion full of good threads Mauricio!!

well in this thread my opinion is why are they doing this?:?
and lol the blackguy (Bobby :p) is rather a strange guy.

But they're intending to do other stuff with the girls, i used to this also but my meaning was to have a girlfriend 😌

now these days they to this for another reason, ( i hope i don't have to draw a picture with this :p)

well my opinion is: Sue Those Bastards for stalking and whatever they do!!

I had to stop the video, that was painful to watch. What a couple of posers.

Maybe ?

Maybe they think they are Mormons or Jehova's W's ? That's how people here react to their approach, ignore and keep walking.

Uncle Frank

I think it's pretty clear that they're just trying to approach random women in the hopes of snagging a female. The Mormon approach is very different, and doesn't come off as so creepy or desperate.

Is that Josh????? ;)

why are you singling out a member of the forum when he's not even participating in the thread.......now there is a chain of comments about him when this has nothing to do with the original thread

You could have send me a pm to say this.

I don't want to say Josh is like them, but after reading his messages and his website I do think that he fals into that category of Foreigners who only go to Japan to hang out with Japanese girls and disrespect them, and themselves. So I do not think that it went off topic that much, but I apologise that I singled out an ex-member of the forum.

Well, I will go back to the topic now.

I think these guys makes it more difficult for other foreigners in Japan, and that's a shame.

These foreigners don't know how to "nanpa." 😊

(1) They're doing it is the middle of the day, when women walking around are not looking to be picked up.

(2) They're choosing women who are dressed for work or daytime duties. They should look for women who are dressed like them, preferably at night.

(3) That straightforward approach works only when the guys look like Brad Pitt or Denzel Washington.

In short, they just look stupid. 😆

Thank you, OP, for yet one more reinforcing bit of "information" that backs my policy of not getting to know any foreigners other than from Jref.

Eh, I watched that video (about 15 seconds of it) and I'll confirm that the previous comments (cough) are pretty spot-on... In any case... why, just why?

Hey, at least they picked up a few isolated Japanese phrases... this just makes me embarrassed for my country... I hate hip-hop culture, well... mainstream hip-hop culture, which basically treats most women as targets to acquire, by the so called "pimps" trying to acquire them.

Of course, I'd like to see a hidden camera installed in Gas Panic, and see all the awkward advances made there.

Hey, there's nothing wrong with getting a little attention as it were in some foreign country that you're in... if you're flirtatious and have any amount of personality, meeting people isn't difficult... just DON'T BE THESE GUYS.

Man, these guys are doinks, bothering women who were just minding their own business before these doinks came up. Geez. I don't think they'll ever pick up any girls like that. If they want to meet girls so badly, they should go to some club at night or something, not just randomly approach every Japanese woman they see and bother them like that. ><

Well you're publicaly putting this out there so this needs to be adressed in public to avoid futher such references, being a mod I would think you'd have a bit more common sense, plus we need to show that, mod or not, everyone has to abide to the conduct of the forum properly.

And furthermore what is so different from what josh may have done or these guys do in the video than from meeting japanese girls online and hooking up with them later on. Granted the behaviour of these guys is rather pathetic but there many who go online to meet japanese girls and are after the same thing as these guys yet judgment on them is not as harsh. I would like to read some of those online conversations some guys have with japanese girls on dating sites, I'm sure they would be just as funny as this video.

This video is not just about foreigners acting stupid in japan, I've seen morons do the same thing here in Brussels, and I'm sure there are other japanese guys who probaply do the same thing so if japanese people judge all foreigners from the behavior of these two it doesn't say much about their common sense.

And lastly you said something about josh disrespecting japanese girls, well it usually takes two for that kinda stuff so if those japanese girl had no self respect I don't think it's fair to blame josh for that, I'm sure most guys out there would probaply do the same if they had the opportunity

I'm sure Dutch Baka was just harmless joking, I think there is no need to make a scene out of it.

Peace. :-)

About the video, I couldn't see it all neither, but I was surprised to notice that isn't the only video regarding those guys. It's just sad.

Japanese guys know what they're doing, though. They get in close to try and lean over like they're going to corner the girl (on a crowded sidewalk) and only the very sexy looking ones.

Josh I'm sure, too, has a much more sophisticated and well-honed technique than these two pathetic wannabes. Not that he would be particularly offended or anything...😌

What has this to do with this thread then? I believe you are the first to mention online-dating in this thread and you compare it with these nanpa-guys, while in my opinion those are totally different things (one is meeting people in a virtual world where people are on-line to meet other people and the other is bothering women on their way to work, shopping or in any case not to meet new people obviously) you say those are similar although you admit to not having read any of those on-line conversations.
And lastly you said something about josh disrespecting japanese girls, well it usually takes two for that kinda stuff so if those japanese girl had no self respect I don't think it's fair to blame josh for that,...
There is a subtle difference between going to Japan and having random sex with Japanese girls that fall for gaijin men (which he did, and does indeed involves mutual consent) and other things for which he may be despised. Amongst other things, one might mention the fact that he had a story on his own website (yes, I am ashamed to tell you that I did have a look at his website) about how to pick up Japanese girls and make them pay for the love hotel they were staying in. He also had, for a brief moment, "I f*** b****es in the a** for cash" as his profile title, until Mike Cash sorted that out in a public post.
...I'm sure most guys out there would probaply do the same if they had the opportunity
Speak for yourself. 😊

I'll be the judge of that if you don't mind
Wait, you're so audacious to presume that someone else can't judge another's actions... I think it's pretty clear that just what was said (by hideaway) was a reasonable assumption... I know you have moderator under your name, but I don't think that gives you special consideration as concerns how users speak or defend other users, other moderators on this forum. I think it's pretty insulting to tell someone that they 're not capable or privileged enough to have an opinion... to be the judge of another user's character.

I know in the past you've deleted posts which were often in response to the language and actions of the subject we are speaking of. This particular user was banned I'll remind you, and what leonmarino said is also correct, in that his user title (and most of his output, really) was both offensive and misogynistic... I do hope that you split this thread into say, the Site Feedback forum, and move these posts that discuss this behavior here, because I think it's important that we all get a chance to air our grievances, or add our own two cents as it were about the subject.

If anything the ban was much too long in the waiting... there were countless threads, posts, responses which could have been avoided; in fact, the user was banned previously... we were merely a captive audience for his braggadocio.

We're not talking about a random stranger who pops in to talk about political Korean rhetoric and then disappears, we're talking about a member of the forum who consistently showed a level of immaturity and disrespect which almost no member took seriously or even casually refrained from commenting on.

As for the, "given the chance" comment, you've also stated before your feeling about how foreign men go for Asian women simply because they're too ugly to get girlfriends in their own country--- I think you're adding insult to injury by saying that given the chance, almost anyone would act like a vile sex tourist... nee sexual predator.

I think it's important in a forum to be able to isolate particular users who seem to be offensive, that this sort of thing is natural to us, as human beings... Dutch baka offered much less editorial about this particular user's character than I and leonmarino have... I think that it's a shame that a user can insult the general character and intelligence of both Asian females, and this forums members, but can't be remarked upon for this behavior, as if he deserves some special favour... even though I'm sure his response to this thread would have been quite enlightening.

I do sincerely hope you look at my response not merely as a challenge to your attempt to stymie this off hand remark, but to look at it as discussion, one to one, forum to moderator, moderator to moderator (I'm referring to Dutch Baka here), and to discuss this in an intelligent and reciprocal way.

Firstly, has anyone read the comments on Youtube for this vid? Some that appear to be informed suggest that this is the introduction to a porn flick whose premise is 'picking up Japanese girls from the street'. While the behaviour in the video is abhorrent, and would be in any language or country, thankfully (if it's correct) we may see this as quite distinct from just foreigners in Japan behaving very badly and tarnishing the image of all good-thinking gaijin. I sincerely hope that good folk like Mikawa Ossan won't let this dissuade them from getting to know some of their fellow foreigners. I personally met some of the most incredible, fascinating, talented and enlightened individuals there from all around the world. Just one reason why I can't wait to go back!

I had hoped not to post on the subject of Dutch_Baka's comment (and those by others, myself included), but it seems to be dominating the thread now, so i'd also like to add my voice to the request that this thread be split in two, and that maushan3's original post (and the on-topic replies) can receive the feedback they deserve.

For the record I must say that D_B's comment was, imvho, both on-topic and playfully-humourous; presumably made to provide a few seconds of fun, rather than having any malicious intent.

Having said that, if any justification is needed for D_B's original post, I must say that I too have found some of Josh's website content every bit as disrespectful to Japanese ladies as the two 'gentlemen' in this video...

I certainly never took his actions here seriously or thought of this as an important matter. I wouldn't even go so far to say they were disconcerting.
Well, that is beyond a much earlier stage....after his behavior considerably more socialized to this forum, after the first ban and the outright bullying of fellow members was replaced with a primarily self-centered focus. Way before the members complaining now had ever heard of JREF. ☝

Anyway, this discussion goes on and on whether Josh is with us in body or not....the only really interesting point is how few women, particularly Asians, have consistently complained about something that supposedly has had such a drastic effect on their psyche and well-being at the forum.

And I don't think it because they are weak minded or easily fooled or in need of anyone's protection. I agree completely with Duo on this. The women, even girls, here show a level of maturity and self-confidence that simply doesn't make them suseptible to the pathetic and desperate words of a self-inflated playboy. At least it goes without saying there was never anything he said that could have triggered my self-doubt or insecurities.

Ignore what you don't like, try to avoid feeding the attention, and without a doubt it will eventually go away....:-)
