Slim, satiny skin, gorgeous face...Is it about climate? diet? make-up? or do they have other special tricks to keep pretty? I'm so wondering.

Make up. Lots of make up. Also in Japan they have illegal (well, illegal in the United States) pheromones in the perfume. Finally keep in mind Japanese girls learn in the home economics classes how move and pose to appeal to men in order to get a husband that is well off or of their choosing.

Because of genetics, the pheromones in the perfume tend to be more effective on white guys, but every once in a while it has a strong effect on Asian men as well. Sometimes so much so that it messes with the guys head and he usually pulls back from normal society. This is the source of the otaku type of personality in Japan.

Just make sure that if you ever date a Japanese girl to not meet before 7pm. Most girls binge and purge prior to this time in order to stay thin so you don't want to be in "blast range" if you know what I mean.

Enjoy.

Well there are ugly Japanese girls to...not "all" are pretty :)

If you think they are all pretty, then you have a obsession/passion for them...what isn't wrong either though ^^

I didn't mean all, just impressed with the drop dead gorgeous :)

No offense but this is kind of a weird topic... or weirdly stated i guess. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder you know. 2-300 years ago in Europe i heard the "bigger" women were seen as more attractive. Half of what we find attractive has been taught to us by society i think.

And also up until the early 1900s in the US. In some cultures, some people still hold this idea.

...and even in today's world, there are people who find larger women more attractive. One of them is posting in this thread. I happen to find Japanese women attractive as well, so a large Japanese woman (they do exist) is just...

...oops, gave it away. :p

Was any portion of the above meant to be taken seriously?

It is so nice to read Mike's posts again. Just had to stop in and say that.

Good to see the thread topics pretty much stay the same!

I'd like to add that while Japanese(or any race and/or other nationality other than your own) people might be found attractive, the novelty can soon wear off.

You guys are so superficial, sheesh... :p

Do you just make it up as you go along?

"Beauty is in the eye of the beeer holder."

(Sorry, could not resist! :p)

I agree, the definition of "beauty" or "attractiveness" changes depending on the time and place.

Why would I not be serious? This is a very serious topic and one that is important to not just Japan but the reproduction behavior of the human race.

One thing to keep in mind is genetics here. There is a great deal to be said for natural selection and Japanese attractiveness.

The sex industry has always been very big in Japan since the age of the Geisha. They were usually selected for their looks, and younger women simply worked hard labor in the past. Often the younger, not as attractive women, would not be able to reproduce. Everything after hundreds of years there was a change. Moreover, since the 1950's and the rise of the Japanese porn industry, the two generations here along with the baby boom in Japan since the war sped up this process.

That is lead to the higher percentage of hot Japanese chicks compared to other countries where Japanese chicks are less frequent such as India or, Norway. Simple science of attraction.

For more information on the topic look up the books, "Japanese Breeding Queens: The science and secret history of post-sengoku sex" and also "Samurai of the Futon." If you can read Japanese I recommend "「嫌だ。そこに剃らない」女性学者での意見

Emoi, I thought you were joking in your previous post.
Do you know that most perfumes popular among Japanese are import.
Yes, you can find "pheromone perfumes" on Japanese internet sites but they are not the mainstream of perfumes pupular among ordinary Japanese females.
(And as far as checking the websiste selling those "pheromone perfumes", many of them are imported.)

The sex industry has always been very big in Japan since the age of the Geisha.
You're mixing up geisha and oiran in the first place...

In another thread you're critisizing BBC for misleading programme yet your statement in this thread looks to me the same level as BBC's "Japanorama", which is a very entertaining series but at the same time gives people the impression as if in Japan you could find anything but weirdos - very weird even to my Japanese eyes (and ears) and extremely embarassing.

Why would I not be serious?

Well "Finally keep in mind Japanese girls learn in the home economics classes how move and pose to appeal to men in order to get a husband that is well off or of their choosing." is so absurd I'm at a total loss as to how to go about ridiculing it.

Where on earth did you get such utter crap as that?

Next you are going to say their was culling of offspring....
Actually I don't know how you could come up with such a ridiculus idea, and to actually have to effect you are talking about you would literally have to cull all the ugly looking babies so that only the "genetically" beautiful ones are left!

I suppose you think the same way of Koreans too, b/c they typically are very good looking people?

I am finding it hard to understand where you are getting all these notions about Japan...

Actually, this did occur. Infanticide in order to raise beautiful Japanese women to get men was common.

In the Tale of the Heikei it is mentioned numerous times. Kiyomori often was quite vain, but this practice remained with Japan up until the 1945. Not speaking about the male babies, female babies often were inspected for certain qualities such as distance between eyes, cheek bones, and even to the point of their eyebrows having to meet a certain "standard" which was often very arbitrary. This of course was in addition to the usual "have all your limbs, toes, and fingers" deal.

If the baby was not up to snuff so to speak, they usually terminated the baby with drowning or borax.

As for Korea, I'm not really educated as deeply about the countries post-birth abortion method for creating beautiful women. It's not like I'm some sicko that gets off studying this stuff you know.

Actually, as in other cultures severe grinding poverty was usually the impetus behind infanticide.

......this practice remained with Japan up until the 1945.

Where did you read that? There are articles available on the internet that says killing of female newborns used to be performed commonly up until the late 1940s in China (while others suspect it still is a problem today). You might have gotten them mixed up.

My parents who were born during that time don't know of such practice during their time. A female friend of mine who is in her 80s does not either.

The validity of that statement is actually beside the point as I do not seriously believe that you were being serious in your statements after your post about perfumes worn by Japanese women.

As a matter of fact, I do not believe the OP was really worth serious responses.
That is why it was moved to Chit Chat from its original location of All Things Japanese.

I showed my wife the part about the home economics classes and she had a good laugh.

She pointed out that boys also take home economics. You would think that would make the Deceiving Men curriculum a little bit difficult to pull off successfully.

My daughter attends public school and takes home economics. Last I heard from that class was that she had to prepare some sort of food over the summer holidays as a homework project. She made curry and potato salad. I'll have to ask her about the curriculum for learning how to move and pose to appeal to men. Of course, that's probably some super secret thing that the girls are genetically sworn not to reveal to males, but maybe I can talk her into telling me about it.

I'm glad you are talking to your family about this. It tends to be a fairly serious problem. While not part of the actual course plan, this is usually taught on the side usually starting 5th grade or so. It isn't super secret as you jokingly said, but it usually is not talked about in the same sense that women don't talk about putting on make up with other men or how best to get a tampon in. (in case your wondering, momentum)

Most important message here it to make sure you daughter knows not to look down on others because of their looks. As the above poster said with that famous quote, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."
