But, other than that, that part was messed up. That's just not right...with the nasty bottle of Vaseline ....made me want to kick some bum. I was cheering when she slammed his head in the door. :box:

Yeah I do that too (notice and get bothered by small things). In this case I wasn't really bothered much because this was, after all, a world far outside the bounds of reality. A world where blood squirts out as if somebody's squirting it out with a bicycle pump. A world where somebody is in a coma for 4 years and isn't strong enough to walk but is strong enough to kick butt, push a wheelchair, etc. with her arms.

The fact that this isn't the real world is made clear when you see special samurai sword holders on the airplane.

lol....they don't even let you bring a puny little pair of scissors on airplanes these days and when they serve meals they give you a plastic knife.

I was on 11 flights this past summer so I know how strict they are. And two of those flights were over 12 hours long.

Anyway, for some reason the song "Tokyo Girl" by Ace of Base reminds me of Go-Go Yubari....I don't know why....it's probably just me.

Yeah, I agree, Liu was about as un-Japanese as you can get. Why did they even cast her anyway? It's not like anyone is going to go see this movie because Lucy Liu is in it, they really should just have found some unknown who actually fit the part.

I totally agree.
There could be TONS of other actresses that could do the part, and actually be japanese.

Maybe they thought they'd stick to big names to rack in the audience..even though I don't think anyone is a really big fan of Liu.

I thought that Julie Manase (Sonny Chiba's daughter in real life) did a great job in the film. She is the first female crazy 88 to die at the hands of the Bride, and trained the actresses in the film as well. She is also a member of KUMAI the Japanese Sword performance group.

That's an interesting bit of trivia bonepile, I did not know that. As for Lucy Liu being cast as O-Ren, from my understanding she is a good friend of Tarentino in real life and unless I am mistaken, her part was specifically written for her (much like Uma Thurman's char).

All three of the aforementioned individuals were on Jay Leno I believe over the span of about a week when the movie was set to premier and that was kind of the gist of what I remember them talking about as the subject was brought up re: casting. I guess it just goes to show you that it really is all about the connections eh?

This movie was awesome. I saw it the day it came out and you wont believe what happened the next day. Uma thurman came to the zoo (thats where I work) she was there with her two kids. I saw her change their diaper and I saw her *** crack from when she was doing that. Not something I wanted to see LOL

Without trying to give too much away for the few remaining folks who haven't seen the movie, which did people like better, the Matrix-y fight inside the nightclub, or the final duel sequence?

tough one to call, after the explosive energy and chaos of the Blue Leaves fight when the Bride opens the shoji to the quiet snowfall in the garden I would have to go with the duel in the garden. It is peaceful, beautiful, and sheer cinematic genius.

Btw, according to a recent interview given by Julie Dreyfus, the Japanese version of the film (and eventual DVD) will feature the big fight scene against the Crazy 88's in glorious blood-splattering full color (as opposed to the B&W version). Furthermore, the Japanese version is said to a bit more gorier including among other things... glimpses into the actual act of Sofie's mutilation (which was only hinted at in the U.S. version towards the end).

So I have seen the movie here (in Japan). The only black and white parts are when the Bride is still back in the church in Texas(?) What was not in the mutilation of Sofie in the US version? I seem to remember some dialogue about cutting off things she would miss and then they show one more act (I don't know if I should say what it is incase you are waiting for the DVD). Do they not show this in the US?

The huge fight scene at the end with O-Ren's crew was completely in B&W here along with the intro you mentioned. And re: Sofie's mutilation we never get to see much of anything really save for the fact that we hear the Bride give her speech about sparing Sofie's life and delivering a message to Bill. Then it shows her picking up her body from the trunk and rolling it down towards the hospital entrance.

Ahhh, do you want to know what I saw (PM me so we don't spoil much more)? However, it is not very amazing and it seems to me Ms. Dreyfus played it up a bit, unless in the DVD they are going to put more special footage. Wonder why the US version is in black and white? Ratings problems maybe?

Well I didin't really like the move. Plot was very weak. I liked the way director used following the character from above...I don't remember the name of the director but if you read about him, he does very bloody films
