Keep left in Tokyo and keep right in Osaka~
This one was great!! I just finished my vacation in Japan and that was one of the best things about lines, keeping to the left. I got home at LAX airport and everyone was rushing the escalator... No order...

From the hair color to the number of buttons on your suit, everyone has to look the same for career events in Japan. I'm glad that my country has the freedom and individualism to choose what we think is professional for events and interviews.

I will be honest (mostly because I want you to be better). I don't know why your work is so popular among the "foreign" members here. I, along with many of my Japanese coworkers who have read your work, do not enjoy it nearly as much as the members seem to do here.
Whether it is intentional or not, you clearly appear to rely on the stereotypes that you know would be commonly held by your readers about us and our country no matter how little truth there is in those stereotypes. That method of creation based on misinformation, to me, is unprofessional if you are indeed a pro.
Your comments underneath the comics are equally very inaccurate at times.

Way too picky (please don't chase her away).
They are "comics" by the way. I see nothing negative about pointing out things in Japan that seem different. If anything , they seem to point out things that are better in Japan then her own country.
They are not mean and sarcastic like some members posts are. You can always block her out if they annoy you.

That was never my point and I doubt that it was masaegu's point either.
Pointing out differences based on one's personal observations and subjective opinions is one thing; presenting as fact things which are just plain old-fashioned not true is something else entirely. Of course foreigners are going to perceive Japan differently than natives, but that doesn't mean we get to have our own separate set of facts.
Unfortunately, she would rather go on misrepresenting things than bother to acquaint herself with facts. That something is presented as a "comic" doesn't make it immune to the same sort of scrutiny or criticism for inaccuracy that we would take for granted if presented as unillustrated text.

To chime in briefly: I understand where Mike and Masaegu come from, but please, her comics are not a socio-critical analysis of Japanese society, but a visual representation how *Eva* views certain social phenomena she encounters in daily life! Whether you share her views or not is up to you, and yes, also up for debate. However, regular readers will have found out by now that she is very critical of her native Singapore, too, comparing it to Japan and extolling many characteristics and customs of Japanese society.

Comments are based on what I feel as a foreigner in Tokyo, and yes, sometimes the comic strip is about Tokyo only and doesn't represent the whole of Japan. I do get comments from Facebook readers when they feel that what I drew was inaccurate (or not exaggerated enough), but most of them have excellent humour and we had interesting conversation there. My Japanese classmates do enjoy reading my comics and they always ask about why there isn't a Japanese version because they think that it would be very interesting for Japanese. And...they take it with fun humour*. One of my Japanese professor even commented that it should be more sarcastic and I'm being too kind to the Japanese. Like any artistic or literary work, it is impossible to satisfy everybody and there's bound to be some harsh critics.

As a professional, *ahem*, I do not mind criticisms about my work. But when readers can't take humour and start to attack on my personality and character by throwing insults, I'll just extend my ignore list.

I've never had any problem with her observations of either Japan or Singapore. But I was rather surprised how unreceptive she is of any discussion on points of fact. If she only wants flattering feedback then she should be posting them to a venue where she can moderate replies. I don't think there has been any criticism of her comics here which has been mean-spirited or gratuitously nasty. They are her ideas posted to a public discussion forum. Just because they are accompanied by pictures doesn't mean we shouldn't be allowed to discuss the merits of the ideas presented.

Yes, I would say that I make fun of my country more than Japan, and do get a few unhappy Singaporean readers from time to time. But overall, many people understand that it is from my perspective and take it with humour. If they want realistic accurate information, there's the newspapers...

What?! Comics are a medium. It's communication. Not weighing in on the discussion of accuracy at all, but saying that it's a comic is not a reason to say someone shouldn't have an objection in any way.
I think the strips here take some humorous license, but I haven't seen anything where I couldn't get where she was coming from.
