JREF Members, what do you do ?

I work for a mid-sized software company writing code for retail chains. Sounds very unglamorous, and it is, but it pays me well and I don't hate my job. In a few years, when I feel more comfortable with my Japanese skills, I intend on getting a job which will utelize my programmer skills and my language skills - something which will allow me to take several business trips a year to Japan. Eventually, I'd like to be able to spend a few months each year in Japan - either working or at leisure. That's a ways on down the road though. For now, I'm just a simple code monkey. Oook

Part Timer, Usually Under 30 Hours A Week.

I do home care nurseing. I usually only have 1 or 2 patients at a time. They are usually between 70 & 100 years old and always men. I help them enough so they don't have to live in a nurseing home, and can stay in their own home. I usually have them 1 or 2 years till they pass away, and I move on to the next one. Many of them are too sick to even get out of bed; most are in their last stages of dying. I try to make their lives as pain & hassel free as possible. Been doing it for 11 years now. I have to admit, making good friends with a person and then watching them die can get a little depressing; but as the saying goes, someone has to do it.

That's really sweet Frank. I'm very glad that you do that. Someone like you helped my grandmother and grandfather before they died. That's an awsome job you have there.

I'm attending a technical school for web design. I work part-time at a library. Unfortunately... I'll be so damn glad when I graduate and can quit that sucky job!

Well, I'm a stay at home mom. I get kids cleaned, fed, off to school, do housework, pick kids back up from school, help with homework(crazy homework for first grade), cook dinner, etc. while getting online in between all of that stuff.

Once I get my youngest son in school full-time, I will be out of this house and back to school!

I'll be a student for at least another 3 years until i can finish my graduate studies. When im not in school, i go to a french course everyday 3 hrs a day. I read, play socccer, chat with buddies, ummmm lemme see, music, go out, typical stuff ppl my age do. Nothing really that special.

I work for an agricultural corporation, which is not really my dream job - man I would love to work for a Japanese IT company 'sigh'... Just got off the phone talking to one of our foreign aircraft parts supplier. Now back to work!

Well, when I'm not here at JREF, enjoying anime DVD's, watching ESPN, true crime documentary shows, World's Wildest Police Videos, CSI, Cartoon Network, reading manga, listening to Pink Lady, surfing the Internet, fiddling around on my Mac and occasionally sleeping (HA!), I'm employed by the federal government as a Personnel Clerk. Nice, easy desk work processing resumes for folks looking for federal jobs. Eight hour workday, no weekends, no holidays either! Ahh, gainful employment, it's so cool!
