Economy Japan electricity and gas prices set to rise in April

Ouch! While not in Tokyo, I realised that our electricity consumption seems to be above the "standard households" range.

Electricity and gas bills in Japan are set to rise in April, as government subsidies introduced to ease higher costs come to an end. Ten major electric power companies have announced their rates for April usage, with increases across the country. In the TEPCO area, a standard household is expected to pay 8,777 yen per month, up 458 yen from the previous month. Gas prices are also going up. The Japan Gas Association said all four major city gas providers will raise their rates for April use.

In the Tokyo Gas service area, the average household will see gas bills increase by 193 yen from the previous month to 5,747 yen. The primary factor behind the price hikes is the expiration of government subsidies for electricity and gas, which had been implemented as part of measures to counter rising living costs. The latest increase in electricity prices does not yet reflect the impact of rising fuel costs linked to the situation in Iran, meaning there is a possibility that prices could climb further from May onward.

At least it's coming when winter is over, not last Nov/Dec.

We use a combination of kerosene (most heat, and hot water), city gas (some heat, cooking, and clothes dryer), and electric (heat for one room, besides lighting and the usual appliances). Our place is old and much less efficient. And we're old, too, and have decided to spend more on utilities to stay comfortable, instead of spending far more to move to a place that would have lower bills.

My house is super insulated with double glass windows . My monthly electric bill average is 28,705 Yen , less then what most of my neighbors pay.
