Can somebody please suggest some cool Manga for me to start with. So far I have seen "Blood: The Last Vampire," "Ichi the Killer (Koroshiya 1)," and I have also watched FF7: Advent Children, but that doesn't count... does it? And I have read the first Model book.
Can somebody please suggest some more Manga for me, as I need to get into it a bit more. 👍
And I know for sure that watching Pokemon doesn't count, so I won't even go there...

Don't you hate it when you're drawing Manga and some girl comes up to you and goes, "Oh! That's like Pokemon!" and you have to grit your teeth and say, "No, it's called Manga. Anime. Not Pokemon."

Just something my friend said to me once. :-)

Correct me if I wrong but Manga is the printed comic strips and Anime is the animation. Anyway to awnser your Question. Anime wise there is tons of stuff you just have to learn what style you like. I like more comedic Anime so Azumanga Daioh is perfect for me, maybe you should give it a go. Also my friend says that Full Metal Alchamist is very good, though I havn't got round to watching it yet.

Can you tell us what kind of anime/manga you think you'd enjoy? Judging by the ones you've mentioned, you may like action, but it's tough to guess when people don't have much past experience to build on.

I'd suggest

Action: Cowboy Bebop
Comedy: Ranma 1/2 (a classic), School Rumble
Fantasy: Slayers (particularly the season "Next")
Historical setting: Rurouni Kenshin (the 1st story arc is just great)

I'd say those are considered staples by many, though none of them are new by any stretch of the imagination, with the exception of School Rumble.

Just remember, Manga is the comic, written one and anime is the cartoon, film one.
For manga you'll have to try some to see what type you like. I'm not really into Mecha (Big robots type) so most of mine is contempory rather than sci-fi. Saying that Chobits is a good manga. Comedy along with a touch of Shojo style. Azumanga Daioh is comedy and very good along with Love Hina. If you want something a bit more serious then try Gunslinger girl.
Each of the above is available in anime as well, but films are better to start off with as you won't end up buying the first of a series and deciding you don't like it halfway thorugh.
The best films I would recommend would be Akira and Ghost in the Shell. You might also try the Studio Ghibli films. The appear every now and then on Film 4.
Have fun

I know people who own Akira and Ghost in the Shell, so I can borrow those.

I know Manga is comic and Anime is cartoon... but when I wrote the post, I completely forgot to differenciate between the two. 😌

I am mostly into Horror stuff and action too, so anything like that would be great in relation to Anime and, when it comes to Manga, I like comedy, sci-fi, horror, action and... well... almost anything. Apart from romance... if romantic Manga exists. 👍

Thanks for all yor suggestions... I'll try them all out! 🙏

I've seen mos (oh this Jrefriends banner is really p***sing me off!!!!!) t of the Studio Ghibli films and the obligatory Akira.

Would be grateful for any recommendations for similar stuff to Akira??

Here's a few of my favorites:

Comedy
  • Comic Party
  • Sgt. Frog
  • FLCL ((Fooly Cooly)(Furi Kuri))
Action
  • Full Metal Panic
  • Chrono Crusade
  • Gunslinger Girl
  • Samurai Deeper
Sci-fi(ish)
  • dothack
  • Rebirth

Mecha
  • Eureka 7
  • any of the numerous Gundam series
Hope some of those fit what you're looking for. 😌

Thanks for those suggestions, Clawn. I see I have plenty to be getting on with. :-) 🙏

For Horror/Action you shoud try Hellsing, the Anime is only about 13 episodes long, but the Manga goes all the way up to 80, if I'm not mistaken, which I could be :p

I'm in love with Gunslinger Girl and Death Note.
Both are very very good manga's

Can anybody tell me their opinions on an anime series called, Fate/Stay Night. I have heard people mention the name, but I don't know what it is about or what it is like. Any opinions?
