I thought it's one of the better JP dramas I've watched. It was quite popular in Japan. The tv series originated from a novel I think. The storyline was good, however I doubt something like it will ever happen in real life. Maybe a good inspiration for Otaku to step out of their own world and start interacting with the real world.

By the way, does the female anime character (the one yamada always talk to) in it actually exist? I am not familiar with Japan animation.
