Look again at that list and dates. There aren't that many. Depends on your idea of "many", I guess. Coming from Minnesota and having lived or worked along "tornado alley" in Minneapolis, I don't see Japan as having many at all.
I would a hundred times rather have typhoons than tornadoes. At least you get some realistic warning of a typhoon's approach, and the damage seems less capricious and arbitrary.
