What's new

Japan Photos 2023

Not enough time for new motives, so here's a shot of our neighbourhood temple taken on a dog walk (iPhone). Last week, the ume tree started to bloom.

Not sure this looks very different--tried some editing on it, trying for more detail in the shadows, also sunshine/sunlit parts a little less pronounced:

This is to prove that Donpen is still alive and kicking (metaphorically): Don Quijote's flagship store, "Mega Donki", in Shibuya.

I've been to the mega store in Naha, Okinawa 2 years ago. And it is big. Their store security must keep very busy. It is a shoplifters paradise, that's for sure.

I've posted some dahlia pics in the past year or two, and was excited about those.

Then I go and discover what a pro photographer does with dahlia:

To look at some of his other work: Behance

Besides each of the pics there--click on each of those for many more--just above those click on Appreciations/Moodboards for even more.

Hmm, call me a simpleton, but I still prefer your dahlias. While Peek's pictures are brilliant, some of his work is too "artsy" for my taste. Where do we draw the line between photography and "photographic art"?

Just flew across the pond, west coast to here. A couple out-the-window shots, and the windows were the tinted, electro-darkening kind, which means color is hopelessly off. So, B&W:

zipair, 787-8, and we opted for their version of biz, which they call 'full flat'--certainly not the pampering and freebies that biz class would usually get you, but that added space was far better than economy. 9.5hrs going, ~11hrs on the return.

Actually, it was windy at narita, so the pilot opted for a touch and go, and by going around that added ~35min to our arrival/flight time, by the time we looped back around into landing order, etc. As former ATC, I've seen this a lot, and have experienced it on both commercial and military planes, and this is one of the most practiced things from the early hours of getting the most basic private license.

But the wife was nervous--so a situation where I'm not supposed to make jokes or wise cracks about it.

Sands of time - those faded memories. :)

I was in Yamanashi during the weekend - so many abandoned buildings in and around that beautiful place.
And found this treasure - an old-old abandoned shop. The sadness of that shop still gave me a smile. :)

Excellent imagery, @EmpJapan! I like the Kodak sign. Just as impressive as the ubiquitous beer ads and vending machines from the Showa period. These derelict buildings hinting at their former glory indeed make great motives. Thanks for sharing! :)

The plum blossoms are in full here. Also here is the most famous blossom tree in Yamaguchi. No one knows how old is, maybe over 100 years. It's in the school yard of the elementary school. Some other pictures l took around Yamaguchi.

Had Chinese style pig feet and kick ... Chinese noodles in Hofu, Yamaguchi.

Not 'japan' photos, but a whole slew of shots showing just how good cell phone photography can be:

I like everything there, except two of the final categories (visual fx, and AI).
