The dogs I know like to eat deer guts and horse poop. Why would I eat something with stuff like that in its diet?

Ever eat pork? It's quite common for pigs to eat their own "poop".

Having lived in China for two years, I have eaten dog meat on several occations.

Just to clarify some common misconceptions:

- Dog meat is more expensive than common meat like pork or chicken.
- If you order pork, you won't be served dog meat instead "by accident."
Since dog meat is more expensive, you are more likely to be cheated the
other way around, i.e. getting "normal" meat when you ordered dog.
- Dogs served as meat are generally not "your neighborhood friendly dog" but
dogs bred for human consumption.
- Not all restaurants serve dog meat, but they're not hard to find.
- Korean restaurants will generally at least have dog dishes on their menu

AFAIK, China is the only country where it's legal to sell dog meat. Korea
may be a bigger dog meat eater traditionally, but selling dog meat is
illegal in both Koreas.

Only for Survival. i to hold nothing against ppl who eat dogs or any other animal for that matter but i wouldnt do it.

I would only eat dog meat if i was starving, it just doesn't seem right to eat an animal that is so intelligent and loving towards people...Its not animal that i think should be farmed for meat either...We first domesticated these animals to be our companions, and they have been for thousands of years in most countrys, not a meal...

My bet is that many people have eaten dog meat before without even knowing it!

That's me...when I visited Korea I was given a skewer of grilled meat to eat, I dipped it into a rather peppery flavored sauce and down the hatch it went. I loved the savory flavor.

It was only after I had asked for seconds that I was informed that I had just eaten "Rover". I was a bit shocked at first, but, probably because of the vast quantities of beer that were in my as well, I ate the next one as well.

The way I had it, I would be willing to bet many people would have a hard time knowing what kind of meat it was.

all flesh is filthy
but especially toxic is the flesh of carnivores

the slaughter methods for dogs are particularly cruel
and the karmic return comes quickly

No, I would not eat dog meat. I grew up around dogs and like them too much to do that. And I find the idea of it sickening.

Why would you eat something that has been traditionally and purposely killed in a way that was meant to cause as much fear, pain, and suffering as possible. Many in Korea and China believe that the adrenaline of dog is what makes it attractive for eating. They therefore mercilessly beat dogs in order to make them as fearful as possible just before killing them so that the adrenaline gets to flowing.

Why would you want to support an industry that brought an animal right up to the point of death by causing it as much pain by beating it or causing pain and fear as much as possible?

May I assume that you are a vegetarian?

I would.

I'm not particularly keen on the idea--because the animal doesn't strike me as very appetizing--but I used to feel the same way about eel...

...until I had the "Red Dragon Roll" at a local sushi resteraunt.

You're also making strong accusations without presenting any evidence again.

I know that usually works, but if what you say is actually true, wouldn't it be better to provide proof at the start so your statements won't be mistaken for baseless, bigoted slander?

That is, if you have any proof.

Ha! oooohhhhh... the feared Reiku comes on. Undoubtedly, soon to start throwing, "b***sh*t" words around to punctuate his frustration.

What? Are you getting ready to call me Hitler again? You seem as if you have never picked up a newspaper or read anything and it seems like so many of your posts are demanding "links, proof" to some pretty basic things or if not something if you just searched for in/on google could lead you to some things that you state you are totally ignorant about.

What, are you now going to tell me I have to provide a link to "Reiku" that points out he is ignorant?

You`re funny.

Thank you, I have been told I should do stand-up.

You're quite amusing yourself, accusing me of ignorance.

No, I don't commonly search the internet for stories of animal cruelty--partly becuase the internet is a rather unreliable source of information, but mostly because the subject really doesn't interest me all that much.

I don't post in all these threads because of my opinions on animal cruelty, but because I am concerned by the lack of substance to most of the arguments, as someone who appreciates the art of rational debate.

You say I am demanding proof for basic things, but you are in fact dodging my question:

What proof do you have to back up your claims in the previous post?

Your statement that "Many in Korea and China believe that the adrenaline of dog is what makes it attractive for eating. They therefore mercilessly beat dogs in order to make them as fearful as possible just before killing them so that the adrenaline gets to flowing.", is by no means "basic".

Perhaps this is widely spoken of by those interested in the animal-rights cause, but it is not common knowlege to everyone--and has the ring of many viscious, western-manufactured rumors I have heard about asian cultures.

When you accuse someone of cruelty, or any crime, the burden of proof is on you.

But this is all pointless, as many people have asked you to provide proof of your sensational claims and you have rarely--if ever--done so.

If you were telling the truth, you would have no need to be so evasive when asked for proof of your claims.

The logical assumption then is that you are making up sensational lies to manipulate people--that is what the evidence supports.

Care to provide evidence to the contrary by backing up your claims with a reliable source for once?

Wow this thread was old, i remember in the good old days when i was a new member here i posted on this thread. Ahh the good old days...well most of the time 😌 .
Anyhoo...I still back up my ancient post of not wanting to eat dogs because they were domesticated to be companions of humans and all etc, although i'd also like to add that i just generally dont like the idea of eating another carnivore, particually a dog. I would probably eat one of though if my life depended on it, although thats highly unlikely("touch wood") 😊 .

ps: slightly off topic, hey Reiku, are you a guy or a girl? Its 'cos initially i figured you were a girl because i always thought reiku was a girls name, but strongvoicesforward thinks you are a guy? Just a curiosity question, but i would appreiciate it if you could put my mind at rest 😌 .
By the way i am a girl if you are curious too.
If anyone else wants to come out about their gender in this dog eating thread, please do 🙂 !

Wow, Reiku. I am surprised you could string all those sentences together in a coherant form with out letting lose your "bull***t" declarations.

Well, now that you have said you don`t trust the internet, how can I do that, Reiku? You will just call everything unreliable or if it is from an AR site you will dismiss it.

As for someone being worthy of addressing/engaging in an argument in detail, I see little value in doing so with someone who goes around screaming "bull***t" or saying they are "Hitler." Some may wish to engage a person like that, but I prefer not to.

But, you really should get into standup. Shouldn`t be too hard for you. You are quite humorous.

Meh, dont worry about telling me your gender reiku, i just looked it up in your profile- wow, so you are no a butch woman but rather a feisty guy.
But as far as im aware reiku is still a girls name.

And just so im on topic- dog meat probably tastes foul, although im just assuming that.
Any dog eaters here that would like to share their opinions of the taste of "mans best friend"?

Well no I dont agree with that part. Why would they want to do that to them O_o everyone know that a excited animal and if it get all that blood and adreinalin pumping its gonna taste bad.

You don`t have to agree with it. If it is done or not is independent of your agreement. Go to google and do some key word searches using, "dog meat, adrenaline, kill, Korea, China," and you will find some info on it.

Causing urine or feces to get into the meat would make it taste bad. But, I have never heard that about adrenaline. Surely an animal can be terrified enough before its death to get adrenaline flowing without getting any other things too contaminated in it.

Besides, so what if it tastes bad. There are many things that many people think taste bad but others don`t or others convince themselves to eat it for the health benefits.

I know a few friends who are really health concious and they hate natto, but still force themselves to eat it hoping they will acquire a taste for it.
