Ate tacos at Charlies many times. Located Okinawa, Japan. Only item available was tacos. Guess what, learned they were made with ground cat meat!! What a surprise. Guess dog would be close. Be sure to use lots of taco sauce.

where is your okinawa? in japan?

I think we should always be wary of imposing our values on another culture. Culture has to be understood on its own terms, preferebly from the inside. Diet is one thing that happens in context and what one man finds a delicacy another deem inedible.

I wouldn't go out of my way to eat it, but if I was served it why not? It is meat like anything else. It probably doesn't taste different from beef, pork, or any other mammalian meat.

Ok, I did it! I ate dog...
Doesnt taste like any other meat I have ever eaten... its really dark, chewy, stringy, a bit fatty and the flavour is really amazing.
Tastes more like a fragrant herb than meat.
I'm terrible at eating meat at the best of times, so I didnt chow down a lot of it, I kept envisioning dogs... and kinda put me off. So just picked at my friends dish. It was cooked as a stew, which is the most popular way to eat it here in Korea.
It did however taste better than my chicken dish.
So if you dont have a problem with what you're eating, I recommend it, its flavour is really unique.
Sorry if this has offended anyone, but there are others who might be interested.

Well, it depends for me. If I were trying to survive then I probably would. I surely wouldn't eat my own dogs though. But it's a No for me. I think of Dogs as human beings with the mantality of a three year old. Although, I do eat meat, I would feel bad to eat Dog meat. Mostly since two of my family members are dogs!!

Also just read back through some of the posts that have been posted since the first time I posted on here...
Dog restaurants are not EVERYWHERE in Korea, they are specialised expensive restaurants... therefore you cant go into any old restaurant and demand dog.
There are more Koreans who dont eat dog, than there are who do.
I have seen footage on the internet of a dog being hung and beaten before being killed, but im not 100% sure if thats general practice or someone just being a bit crazy for the camera.
There are lots of arguments on the inhumanity of killing dog... beef slaughter houses arent much better... nor are poultry farms (chopping off the heads and leaving them to run around till they die) and you get the general picture. There is never going to be the 'perfect' way to kill a living animal.

I would definitely give it a try. I like to expand my horizons by trying new things. There are somethings I ate when I last visited Japan that I still don't know what they are! On a side note, alligator is daaaaaaaarn good. (And no - it doesn't taste like chicken, it tastes like alligator).

Dog? *sniff* Eat dog? Only if I don't eat my dog! :D I'd like to try. I'm open to new things.

*dogs?* *whimper*

I wouldn't eat dog because I have two cute dogs myself. I like hotdogs. I know in china they breed dogs to eat as my Chinese friend eats them proudly.

Well supposedly dog meat gives a man added 'stamina'....
Could be true?
Anyway its not like they eat their pets.... there are certain dogs that taste better. Supposedly those with reddish brown hair are tastiest...^^ Thats what a japanese man once told me.

I think it is easier and faster to get answers when you ask your Korean friends. If possible, share their opinions here.

alligator is good, but I think only the tail is edible...
I would eat dog,I`ll try anything once......except snails.....eww.....

I'd eat a dog but not a cat... and only if I didn't actually see/know it when it was alive or being cooked.

Sadly i did eat dog meat once when me and my family visited my fathers friend in philippines. I was around 5 years old, my father called me over and said "Try this, its good." I did what i was told and ate the mystery meat. It was very chewy and rubbery and i didn't like it at all. I asked my dad what it was and he simply said "Oh, its dog." All i remembered was screaming and crying to my mother.

A few days after we visited another of my dads friends in philippines. Me and my mother were browsing the streets when all of a sudden i was hearing yelps and barks from dogs. I looked to my right and i saw people shaving and cooking several dogs!

I've been traumatized since :(

p.s By the way, i'm new to the forums 🙂

Couple of things:

Though all members of the cat family are said to be good to eat, people in the world, for whatever reason, do not seem to normally consume the meat of carniverous animals, like cats, and wolves and fox and dogs.

What I object to most about dog-eating is that it is said that they favor torturing the dogs before killing them.

Im not sure im understanding this comment quite right...
Are you implying that I need to get my facts straight? Or merely asking me to share my friends opinions here?

I have many Korean friends, who have eaten and still do eat dog.
On the other hand I have many Korean friends who dont and would never.

The stamina comment came from Korean guys, who claimed that it gave them more power in the sack.... what im saying is that I wouldnt know if it made any difference, as they are male and im not. I didnt get any amazing extra stamina from eating it.

The reddish brown hair dog being tastier comment came from my SFX tutor (a japanese man).
