No, I'm familiar enough with British English and the difference between terms used to describe every day objects, places, or foods. Chips make sense to me. They're chips of potatoes. Crisps make sense because they're thin, crispy pieces of potato. I'd use chips more in my area but people wouldn't get what I'm saying.
