Hello,
this is my first post here. Please, be patient with my question.

I follow information about problems with nuclear power plant Fukushima Daiichi. One question emerged in my thoughts: Why had Japan decided to built nuclear power stations knowing that erthquakes hit the country often. And knowing that big earthquake is expected to occur anytime as that kind of them are regular (the last one from 1923)?

Was it to become more independent from foreign natural recources? Or is nuclear power just cheaper?

That's a very interesting issue for me. If you can help me understanding this case, I'd appraciate. Thank you!

Limited land and resources makes nuclear power an attractive power source for Japan and in fact has helped Japan to acchieve it's position in the world it has today.

After everything is said and done and I'm pretty sure that we will see more nuclear power plants built and maybe even in increase in construction of newer safer plants here to replace older less safer ones.
