Misunderstanding. I mean pick up a English school history book not just a normal English history book. Still very differnt. So comparing a Japanese school history book to a normal English History book would be a wrong comparison.

English History books bend the truth and dont state all that really happened in WW2.

Believe or not, few Chinese know DaLai LaMa received the Nobel Prize.

I f I am not wrong, he is going to pass away. He attempts to commmunicate with Beijing to get a deal with Beijing so the Tibetans can "live" in a relative free land. Unfortunatedly, he has been challenged by some officials in exile government since his efforts to reach a concensus with Beijing remain unsuccessful. I don't know whether Tibet will become another East Turkistan or not, but once DaLai LaMa pass away, Beijing appointed BanChan LaMa has the authority to appoint next Dalai Lama (14th?).

Do I sound reserved at all ? But thanks for asking; I got to appreciate my freedom after being too comfortable.

edit: I should have qualified my statement.
1. In 1979-1983: There was censorship, and free speakers had to watch over their shoulders.

2. In 2004, I could publically criticise the president 3 km within the Presidential Residence and not get arrested or hassled.

3. As for freedom of press, there is criticism that the current government is attmpting to oppress the daily papers, but we manage to get all the news we need, perhaps too much ? ... It looks more like negotiating for more control or freedom.

I think Chinese is able to come to this forum and chat---simply because this website is not monitored or blocked by our cyberpolice. In China, People enjoy limited freedom of speech online.
