What is best: Ipod or "ordinary" mp3 mini player?

Hiya!

I hope someone can help me out with this query.

My bf has a mini-ipod....but I want to buy my own I can take with me at the gym and everywhere....However, as I am very fond of SONY - I have thought about purchasing a SONY mp3 player INSTEAD of an ipod.....
Any suggestions?

An iPod is an icon. It's Apple. It's pure design and that's also what you pay for.

I have an iPod, which was a gift. At that time I said I would never buy one. Way too expensive and it's just an MP3 player. But if it would suddenly break down now, i'd instantly buy a new one. Can't live without it anymore.

Sure there are other brands, but they can't claim to be a real iPod. Sure they'll function the same, and you'll have it in your pocket most of the time so nobody will see it anyway. It's just that an iPod is surrounded by a little piece of magic.

Then again, buying an iPod will also make you the ultimate trendwhore. Most people buy it just to be seen with it. And believe me, people will look at you when you walk around with those white headphones. Mind you, the shuffle function really sucks.

Personally i would never ever buy any Sony consumer products again. Too many bad experiences with them. There's loads of other good brands though, if you're immune to that iPod magic.

i suggest buying a Zen Micro mp3player. the price is decent (in the US about 229 dollars), the layout is very good, and 5 gb are about as much as you need.

PLUS: I believe it's compatible with Napster To Go which means you can get unlimited mp3s from napster for your player for only 15 bucks a month (http://www.napster.com/compatible_devices/index.html).


if you want high quality and design and have the money you might wanna buy an ipod. these things are a fashion accesoire too. when i was in new york everybody had one ...

iPods are great, but personally I don't feel that they are worth the money over a regular MP3 player, my Mac-lovin' brother in law would disagree with me however.

Make sure you know what you want it for, and how you are going to use it. In my case I got a Creative MuVo Sport. It's weather and shock-resistant, has upgradeable memory, FM radio, stopwatch function, and a holder and strap so you can attach it to your arm. I like it because I can strap it to my arm when I'm on my motorcycle, plus it was less than half the price of an iPod.

Sure, go buy an iPod, I reccomend going on E-Bay and buying a 40 GB model.

MP3 player, dont try and justify spending that stupid amount of money to buy somethiing that looks cool, its gonna be in your pocket. Buy an mp3 player, then buy some clothes to make you look cool and still save loads of money.

ipod isn't expensive just for the brand. The quality is fantastic (can't count the times I've dropped mine on concrete, and yet there's not even a scratch on my display) the storage space WAY outweighs most "normal" mp3 players and the menus are great..

I've got a first generation mini.

the first gen mini is now dirt cheap too. second generation has more than twice the battery life though (and way more than any "normal" mp3 player) and it has a bit more storage space.. I think it's 4 or 5 instead of 3GB...

All in all the ipod is fantastic, and everyone that says "get a normal mp3 player because it's wasted money" has obviously never owned an ipod or is just against things because they are trendy

(I'm no trend *****, I still wear baggy jeans and whatever shirt I like.. but I'm no anti-trend maniac either, refusing to buy things because they happen to be the trend)

the only annoying thing with the iPod is the lack of being able to just pull music onto it in windows.. but that can be easily fixed with some cheap and some free programs.. like this free one : EphPod

my favourite is anapod though. it's not free, but at a mere $25-$30, it's worth it =D

There are times I wish I didn't buy my iPod, but remembering how it stores all my anime, music, and still have about 30 gigs on it makes me very proud to be an iPod owner.

Really, its about the dollar per gb, and functions no?

Sony has their own models, but they're lacking what Apple has proven other than trendy ; it lasts. iPods are great indeed. Can't live without mine (60Gb)
