I am done with high school, but I have to go to a community college before a university (my school allows this) most community college do not teach japanese, if I can find a class in phoenix, Id love to join, but I havent.
You know japanese, it was a simple question, why can't you just tell me how to say 'do you like'? I *am* going to enroll in college.

mikecash said:How about just keeping on making posts here with each and every line of an ongoing inane conversation in an obscure chatroom between total strangers who are totally ignoring you, in the hope that you'll catch one of them badmouthing you? I think that would be the best way to go about this.
I linked him up with an online translation service instead of a dictionary,Duo said:Maybe it would be best if you posted these kind of inquries in the japanese langauge section where you could get more help maybe even by native japanese speakers

"Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish and he will eat for a lifetime."
Mike is trying to teach you how to fish. Maybe you should consider this before getting angry and frustrated with him for not giving you the particular fish that you're asking for.
GoldCoinLover said:I guess the point is, "Go study it on your own so you can figure it out."
I will try to study on a website. He isn't giving me a fish, but then why isn't he teaching me to fish?
mikecash said:I'm pleasantly surprised to see that jt picked up on that, because it was precisely what I was thinking about at work today in relation to all this.
I didn't exactly teach you to fish, but I am trying to point you toward the pond.
You can take college courses by correspondence/online, even while enrolled in community college. If you're currently in community college (it isn't clear), then talk to someone in the guidance office or your academic advisor about this.
Over the years I've seen numerous young people who profess a profound interest in learning Japanese and an strong desire to make a permanent move to Japan. And over the years I have yet to see a single one of them make the slightest bit of progress toward those goals. Like Charlie Brown kicking the football, though, I keep thinking "maybe this time....."
I'd like to see you be the one, Kevin. I'm gruff with you sometimes. Probably excessively so at times. But if I didn't care at all I'd just ignore you totally.
The structured presentation, explanation, and practice you will get from a proper textbook and related materials (and a hell of a lot of focused and dedicated work on your part learning from them) are unavoidable essentials if you really expect to fulfill your publicly stated goal of becoming a professional translator.
You're out of high school now and we should now be dealing with each other adult-to-adult when it comes to helping your further your progress toward your goals. So it would help tremendously if you would try to focus and be serious a bit and quit acting like a 12 year old with serious attention deficit problems.
