Underrated Movies

Wassup? Just for fun, how about chiming in here with a favorite movie of yours that you just can't get enough of, but never won any Oscars or got any sort of recognition, but was a film that captivated you from start to finish. I'm sure veryone here knows of such movies. I'll start off with my gem in the rough: Thirteen Days.

This movie which came out in 2000 was a taut historical thriller about the Cuban Missile Crisis and how the world came perilously close to a nuclear war between the U.S. and Russia over the insertion of ICBM's in Cuba. I thought Thirteen Days was a very gripping movie with excellent performances, especially by Bruce Greenwood and Steven Culp who played John and Bobby Kennedy. It's a movie I've throughly enjoyed, even though it got very little in the way of recognition or big headlines when it first came out.

Well, that my underrated movie! What's yours?

Clean and Sober (1988,Michael Keaton)
(best movie ever about white-collar drug abuse)

I remember that movie. If memory serves, that was the first straight dramatic role Keaton played after years of doing comedy. He then followed that up by playing Batman!

The Warriors (1979)
(very effective cinemia technique, the sicko guy sort of messed this up)

Wow! I hadn't heard about The Warriors in years! Another underrated gem!

Seance - Japanese Psychological thriller. Practically unheard of compared to the likes of Ringu, Ju-On etc.
Kingpin - US Bowling comedy. Most people think of The Big Lebowski when you put bowling and comedy in the same sentence...but Kingpin is too funny! Pretty low-brow, but some classic comedy moments...as anyone who has seen it knows!

A funny movie I could watch over and over again is an old movie from 1988 called Big Business starring Bette Midler and Lily Tomlin.

It is about two twin couples, who are mismatched at birth. soo funny!
Forty years later, their paths cross amid the hustle and bustle of Manhattan, and the result is unrestrained pandemonium. New York's opulent Plaza Hotel is the setting for a wildly hilarious, classic case of mistaken identities, split personalities, and double trouble!

I Hadn't Heard Anything About It.

I picked up a used DVD copy of "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen".
I thought it was quite clever how it wove a story out of many other old stories. It seems most of the movies Sean Connery is in , I like.

I totally agree. I love that movie too. I also have only seen Sean Connery in good movies.
In the mentioned movie, I love all the characters, and also the plot.

That film was quite widely pushed in this country, but was received poorly, coming out on DVD sooner than most.

"Dazed and Confused"
"Office Space"
"Half Baked"

Dazed and confused is quite good, but I can't watch it that often...

I was gonna mention office space...that movie makes me laugh every time I watch it...as a matter of fact, I just watched it two nights ago!

-Versus(I don't know if it got an award though)
-Moon Child (it got recognition in Japan but the U.S. heldout from the public for a year...heathens)
-Samuorais: As stupid as the title sounds, it was a French/British movie that was great!
-Ichi (pretty good, gory as hell though. Do you know how many research papers I could have clipped together with all the staples on his face?!)
