*sigh*... dose anyone else just read manga.... no matter what it is... just to study the pictures?
don't get me wrong.... a lot of hat i read i read because i love the stories... i won't buy anything that i don't like the story too.....
but i mean stuff on the net....
i'm a huge manga enthusiast, and i try to lear everything i can, so i study ALL forms of manga... not because i spacifically like what they're doing or talking about... but just to examin the pictures and try to see where their influences are, where they're exagerated, where they'r out of proportion, yet it still looks good....
i even look at stuff that's draw really badly, just so i can look at it, see why it's bad, and make sure i never do that when i draw...

i get bored with people and their anime.... don't get me wrong, i love anime.... well... the clasics at least... kinda gone off tv serieses and promotional shows.... but.... i just get bored with it after a while,.... it all seems too easy...

i like to be able to study the drawings and look at how they've placed the screen tones (and then grr at thembacause i can't use them :()

anyway.... i was just wondering if there were any people around here who are spacific [/i]manga fans... and not so much anime... and if they have the same kinda views as me...

Ummm... I'm kinda in the wrong place, being as though I don't read manga ☝ but as my uni subject was Fine Art: Painting, I did look at enough comic books, lol! I would've read manga then if I'd been able to get my hands on them, but somehow comic books were disapproved, except where they had influence on sufficiently 'arty' artists like Warhol et al. Manga and anime were kind of supposed to be for the Illustration students, who were carefully segregated! (I didn't study illustration coz I knew I didn't want to make art into a 'job' - would take the fun out of it for me :) ).

So although I can't answer the question properly, I can see where you're coming from and yes I did have that view often of 'non-manga' comic books (I mean stuff like Curse of the Spawn and Legends of Darkness type stuff). Some awesome art work in some of them. Everyone appreciate! It's an order!

hee hee
oo, you did fine art!?!
.... not at DeMontford? my friend just finished her foundation there... sounds like a really good corse...
i'd do it if i wasn' gunna do Biology instead.... *mutters*

yea, some comics really do have brilliently stunning pictures in... not just manga
you should check out Kabuki by David Maek 😍 omigod it's belautiful.

and it really bugs me that they can consider Andy Wohole fine art... but as soon as you want to do what he did only with manga... suddenly it's not aloud.... *growls at exam bords*

*sigh*.... i'mma do graphics next year i decided.... because i wanna learn how to use screen tones :D

Sorry, not De Mont (did look round there though) - Loughborough. The foundation course there is fantastic - or at least, it was while I was there.

I really hated having to choose a subject area, though - sculpture, 'fine art', illustration/graphics, or textiles - I wanted to do everything. In the end I chose Fine Art: Painting, for my degree, coz that was the most versatile and you could do more or less anything. But I still missed out on the illustration kinda stuff, though... and resin casting, lol :mad:

lol
aww, cool!
yeah... i thinki's really love to do it... but.... meh, biology's more practical.... damnit

yeah... i have no idea what i'd cose... i'm doing fine art now and loving it (AS) but, my art teacher's a graphics teacher too... and so we get to do a lot of cool stuff that we otherwise really wouldn't...

i'm.... aloud to do some kinda manga like scetches... just to show my ideas... but nothing more than that...
Graphics i should be aloud to do what ever... i'm gunna do a study of Fukaya Yuichiro's work me thinks....
^__________________________^
he does the cover designes for Kagrra,! :D:D:D

o, and Yoshitomo Nara and Takeshi Murakami, of cause ^.^
BAH i should have done Graphics instead of Physics >.<

I don't know whether it was just where I was, but... both at college(s) and uni, doing any kind of painting/drawing from photos was a complete taboo. (unless it could be transformed by means of something really really innovative and clever...) Especially, if anyone had done picture like 'fan art' type of stuff, they would have been completely slammed not to mention laughing stock with 'it's sooo A-levelish!' sort of comment, etc.

I really much prefer working from life than photos (in fact although many people think photos are easier, I find a lot harder coz you don't have the same sense of the proper mass and structure of the object...), but had the problem that most of the stuff I wanted to capture in 2D involved people, movement, action, and usually half darkness too (or at least, exagerrated lighting).

(just realised that sounds, err, dodgy... Ok, ok, I confess, I went in for the porn film directing business...)

Hmm well, found other directions to go in. But, only have painted very first 'fan art' now I'm practically drawing my old age pension! lol I painted that profile pic of Kozi, with the red background. I did the smoke last, it's really fun to paint. It's thanks to all the mad fanatics that inspired me to try such, because I'm too competitive, lol, can't bear to think others are doing stuff I'm not, hehe 😌 That's the reason I play instruments, too! *is hopelessly off topic*

heh, i don;t thin it matters about going off topic.

i hear what you're saying about life drawing.
we were so lucky we got to take a class for one day last year.... i think i improved more in those 5 hours than i did in the entier 2 years of GCSE *mutters*stupidteacher*mutters*
but... i think i find it easier to work in a lot more detail when i'm working from photos, simply because you can examin them in greater depth and stuff...
actually... my first ever real portrait i did that actually looked like the person i was drawing was fanart.... Ryu ^.^
i didn't have a particular passion to draw anyone.... so i drew him... and it's probably one of the best things i've done... it still sucks but.... neh.

but my teacher was sceptic about that the examiners would think and said it would be fine for preliminry work, but i had to do life studies and take my own pictures fo my final pice.... fair enough....
but exam bords anoy me....
you can't prove you can do art by forfilling a spacific curiculem... i think it's stupid.
art is a form of expression, not a matter of grades....
it's the same with music... i think it's stupid people think you need grades to prove you can do something.
my brother's the most amazing Bassist.... and he can't read a note...
helll Nao.... THE greatest Bassist in the word was taught by his brother... i'm sure he doesn't have any grades or certificates saying he can play bass....

heh ^^; sorry... i'm in that kinda mood today... had 2 AS exams this morning that i should have failed but didn;t because th stupid exam bords made it far too easy....

aww, I was gonna say bad luck about having exams, but... good luck to pass even though you thought you were failing... maybe your skills just better than you thought! 👍
I agree about exams, in fact art was the subject where I got *worst* A-level grades, my best grades were in English, but I wanted to do art coz English was too easy, it wasn't enough of a challenge more of a walkover. (lol aren't my awesome language skills just soooo obvious from the quality of my post, just fluent and poetic expressions, lol *nibble* *gnash* *dies*
not to mention my grate speling and capitalisationsssssssSS...)

At uni I had the studio right next to the life room - I loved life drawing soooo much (the models got to liking me coz I spent so much time drawing them I think they felt flattered. It was only recently, looking back over some drawings I kept, that I realised how *distincly* erm... erm... some of the poses were! :D) I'd have some life drawing almost every day. I really got to be able to see and articulate... but now I'm soo rusty *cries* I got sick and didn't draw for around 3 years... or play instruments... *cries more* but now I am again, yay! it's like waking up from a hundred-year sleep :p

I totally agree about instruments too. My dad was a really good guitarist and didn't read music. I got grade 8 flute and 5 in music theory, but on guitar I can't read music at all! It's true - only tab. Jeez, just too many notes at once to cope with proper music. Although strangely enough I can read music for piano.

Also, for piano I memorise everything, but on guitar I really struggle to memorise stuff without the paper in front of me. It really sucks. I mean, how can you play live with a *music stand* for Chrissakes!!!

lol... no.. i should have faild... i'm anoyed i didn;t because i didn;t do any work for it....
i've got them all this week.... and i'm still not doing any work for it.... maybe Maths'll give me a kick up the butt to get something done ^^;

ah... no... i think art is now my best subject, butt hat's only because it's all i ever do 😌
GCSE... i got a B, it got reevaluated to an A, but i didn;t feel i deserved it... my stuff was crap.
lol... you're spelling and vocabulary's still better than mine drear... tho it doesn't take much ^^;

you'r so lucky to have that oportunity... i think i'm planning on doing some (clothed) life drawing in the summer... my dad's girlfrinds's an ex ballet dancer, and she's gunna get one of her friends to come hold some poses for me... i really need to work on that seeing as one of my manga character's os a dancer and i always struggle with getting the legs and stuff right >.<

yeha, it's nice when you get back into stuff.... i mean... i was outta touch with my music for a long time... especially my singing.... but now i'm in the choir and all.... and i've found music that truley inspires me... i't nice.
i took.. grade 4 clarinet and sax... grade 1 piano about a bijillion years and then quite cos i hated my teacher... lol.
but now i just sit and figer things out on the piano... i mean.... i wish i hadn't quit, because it's dificult for me to extend my skill when i have little nowlegde and stuff... but... i get by.... i'm still not as good as my brother... and he only ever had about 5 piano lessons >.<
it's not fair *stomps foot* I'M the musical one... ME! lol.
i want him to teach me bass so desperatly... but he never will because he doesn't want me going anywere near 'his' instrument.... not fair :(
lo... but i do tend to play everything by memory now... i hav the music as a guide line if anything... and i just make up something that kinda sounds similar ^^;

oh, it's a good GCSE result! :) I got only a B, and a C for A-level! Hey but my teacher blamed himself coz he played blues guitar so we'd just sit in lessons and talk about guitar and stuff and he didn't wanna be a teacher at all so he didn't really do any teaching... cool, but I have no excuse for getting a C grade ☝ I so much wasn't into the stuff we had to do! Anyway, foundation and degree made up for it, lol
*leaps and bounds*

It's cool that you sing in the choir, I meant to join one when I moved to Leicester and I never got round to it coz of being ill and then I got involved with the am dram malarkey and it took up a lot of my spare time.

I really really didn't appreciate it when I had to do music theory, coz I was about 13 or 14 and had to go on a Thursday night after school and it was soooo dreary, I was sitting there falling asleep! Then when I got into electric guitar and started listening to technical stuff like Steve Vai and have books on 'dorian mode scale' and 'lydian mode scale' and chords 'Gbadd9' etc. etc. I was wishing I had paid attention! ☝ But, I don't bother with knowledge on the guitar, lol, just use the fretboard as a playground :D

I've got so bad though at figuring things out from CDs... I used to do it, and I got stuff from Alice Cooper like Poison and Love's a loaded gun, and the riff from Snakebite which was really difficult coz it leaps more than an octave, aargh! But now I'm crap, especially arpeggios coz I can hear the guitar through the vocal but somehow my ears won't let me get past the vocal, it's sooo annoying! *drums fists on desk* And solos... well, forget it! (mostly) I really really really badly want the tab for the solos in Monochrome, they are so incredibly hot, I would love to learn them...

Guitar and piano are totally *not* the easiest of instruments to learn though! I only started playing piano in March and I started with difficult classical stuff coz I figured if I could learn that, then I could learn anything! lol, I got Crucify my Love enlarged on photocopy and I have to try, it looks hard but it's such an awesome piano song!

Good luck with the life drawing!

hee hee... waw, we're really going for essay coment's here, ne? :D

yeah.... well... i never listened to my art teacher.... i did what i wanted, and he hated me for it for a long time... then i did my mock piece, and i did it all manga like cos i studied lichtenstein(sp?) and kinda did half half..... the picture sucked butt, but my research was pretty heavey, and i did pretty well on the written work too....

haha, but you should have seen his face when i did my exam piece.... my art history piece was Hokusai's wave and my tonal copy was..... well it wasn't exact, but i'd got the style down and it looked pretty spiffy if i may say so myself 😊
then i got an A* for my written analysis and.... my friend thought i was having a fit, lol.

but yeah.... it wasn't untill i found stuff that would really interest me that i started getting 'good' at art....
i'm not good... i'm no where near it... but.... i'm heading that way ^.^
and i am predicted an A... but i doubt i'll get it 😌
i thin it's cos i actually do the work, lol...
and have a habit to go onw writting forever.... which i think shocks a lot of art teachers in my school... cos so many people are such copouts it's painful because their skill is better than mine!

hee hee, yeah, my frind, who is... and AMAZING artist... she got a C ad A level.... i don't think they prove anything other than you can fill out the criteria for what they want.... because she's just got into Oxford Brooks, lol.

hee hee... yeah... i mena.... effectivly i've been in a choir sice i was abbout 6/7?
... but.... nothing like this.... i mean... i've never had lessons or anything... i hate my voice... but i love to sing, and i know other's like to hear me sing so... if it gives them pleasure then hey, why not...
you should look into joining the choir if you want....
you'd probably be ther oldest girl... but there are men in the hoir probably pushing 80 so.... 😌
we could use someone who kinda knows what they're doing but isn't a big head about it ^^;
the choir master's wife is Japanese.... and they're taking us to Japan..... and there's oportunities to sing with the UK-Japan choir and stuff.... lol....
but, yeah, anyways ^^;

ACK >.< theory.... bleh... hate the stuff.... they tryed to teach me.... i wouldn;t let them 😊

lol... that's the only way to play the guitar!
my friend's got grade 8 bass.... hasn't done a single thing of music (don;t aske me how she managed that... apparently there's a bored where you don;t need theory, and you can get away with not sight reading or something.... *shrugs*) and she... yeah she can't read music to save her life... lol... believe me... i've seen her try 😌

heh.... my problem is.... i know aout 3 chord patterns.... and i use them over and over, vearing ever so slightly...... it really bugs me... i need to be more creative 😌
especially when i'm writting my own stuff....

lol, no kidding... i'd say the were like the hardest.... with the possible exception of the violin.... i tryed that out........ bad idea ^^;
yeah... crucify my love is so beautifl.
i really wanna figure out Harusaki Sentimental by PlaticTree? (it's the 3rd track on the cell album i sent you)
i shecked hasusaki.com... but they didn;t have it for that sing *whimpers* it's a newbie ^.^

ummm... I think I've kinda hijacked this thread... errr... anyone else out there who wants to respond to what the question actually was????? Just, ahem, interrupt me... I'm used to it... I'm just talking crap, anyways... :p

oh, I write far too damn much. It's coz I made the mistake of teaching myself to touch type. Now it's just stream of consciousness stuff... blah, blah, blah... life story....

You're going to Japan with the choir?!?!? Sounds cool! You're so lucky? Um, is there an audition or something to join? I used to sing alto, which I really enjoyed.

Oh, by the way, Leicester Adult Ed College (on Wellington Street) is starting a Japanese course in September, if you're interested in taking classes. I went to a taster class recently and I'm definitely going to enrol. I've worked my way to the end of a textbook but I so much need to practice speaking with other people who are learning, to get more motivation. Well, my sort of boyfriend (he thinks of himself as that, but I don't always, lol) is Japanese but normally we talk in English because his English is miles better than my Japanese 😌 He says if I marry him I can go and live in Japan, but it seems like a high price to pay even for the chance to get my hands on a limitless supply of real, genuine article j-rock CDs!!! I'm not that mercenary... am I...? someone tell me I'm not...!!! Anyway I seem to have veered off the point *ahem* - just thought classes might be handy if you *are* going there with the choir.

Oh, by the way, the spelling of Lichtenstein is spot on! 👍 no wonder you got A* for the written.

fyi i'm still downloading the stuff you pmd me, major thanks! I just had a go at crucify my love on keyboard, it's fiendish, there's so many leger lines plus my keyboard, although quite a good one, doesn't go down that low, damn!

hah... well..... if somone wants to cut in.... they have to have a pretty jucy comment to come in with... lol... we're ful plet um.... i don't know... lol 😌

heh, i can't touch type... but once i start typing... i find it way difficult to stop 😌
like you say... it;s just randomnes that comes out ^^;

ah i'm an alto... i'm the only female one! *whimpers*
they sometimes make me do first suprano tho..... i cry muschly but i don;t really have much of a choice... i'm the only other girl apart fomr my firnd who can hit thosehigh notes with sdiquet volume (but it sounds hidious >.<)
i basically demended to be aloud to do alto because.... i am an alto, there's no denying it, lol...
ummm...... if you're really interested... i could talk to my choir master... we practice late friday nights and there's an evening psalms every monday night.... and we do the odd sunday service and stuff... but that's about it except for concerts, obv.
plus we get payed ^.^

i DEFF wanna go to thoses classes. i friend... well, he's kinda a frind.... at school told me about them... and i wanna go most most deffinatly... i think i'll really sit myself down in the summer and learn what i can from my books and stuff ^.^

omigod you have a japanese bf... or, what ever he is, lol.... damn you!
lol... i happen to stalk every chinese/japanese/korean i see in town so... um... if he's there often the likyness is i've stalked him ^^;

.... i don't have a problem.... honest 😌

hehe... i dunno..... i think it would be a hard desicion... i mean.... if you married him... then.... you wouldn't be able to marry Kaoru.... (o god i hope pkk doesn't see this 😌)
lol....
besides.... you could turn it around and say, i'll marry you if you take me to Japan..... and then run away once you get there ^^;

.... what? it's a perfectly reasonably surgestion.....

w00t! i'm happy i spelt something right ^^;

yay, it's ok... you seemed like yah really wanted to get to know some bands... so i figured it would help you out ^.^
(pluss you HAVE to hear PURA!) ^.^
hee hee.. awww..... you need a piano dear ^.^
my keybord is..... very dusty 😌
um, it's 5 octivs... but we have a piano, so i hardly play it ^^;

choir sounds good... i miss singing in something... only trouble is I have theatre on a monday night (during season anyway). Know what you mean about the high notes.. had lessons for a couple of years and my teacher really improved my range, he made me sing really high :eek: had this trick of starting off exercises on, say, B and telling me it was A in an attempt to trick my brain into allowing me to reach that elusive 'top top C'... sneaky bastard... it worked very occasionally 😊

*quiet whisper* marry Kaoru? if only! *giggles like an idiot*

you're so right i need a piano - but even second hand ones are too expensive for me *cries* Besides, my neighbours wouldn't love me too much, i'm joined on both sides and i have headphones so i play keyboard and guitar late at night and early in the morning (like 7.30, well it seems early to me, lol) so i don't think they'd appreciate it. That's about the *only* good thing about having keyboard as opposed to piano.

ah... well.. i mean, i can look into it for you... you may only have to do the friday night/weekend stuff... cos on monday, unless it's full choir, i have to be first suprano..... not. fair.
hee hee, that sounds cool tho ^.^
i was... always trying to sing the highest note possible when i was a kid. i think i can get top top c... haven't tryed in a bit.... but i know i could... actually i think i used to be able to get thee above it 😌
ow i strive for the lowes :)
a can get bottom b flat on a very good day :p
helps when i'm singing along to Miyavi :D

hee hee aww

yeah.... i guess that's kinda stick... you need to find like, if there's a hall or somehting you can go rob their piano for a few hours, lol.
also... you ca record stuff on keybords and pay over the top of yo self... so it's good for when you're trying to figer stuff out or writting your owe stuff ^.^

ow that's high! 👍 I don't struggle too much with the lows... can manage bottom G or F 😄
the hall where my am dram group meets has a piano, but it tends to be in use by dancing students whenever I'm there. Except once when I was the last one left set-painting one evening... in an empty hall, it's great, I could sing nonsense on the top of my voice with no-one to bother me and play piano too... only in fact that piano is seriously crap 😊

ah, my keyboard doesn't record... if only... then i could do my complicated stuff the lazy way. I started writing a composition for piano once but I got half way down the first page and it's too difficult for me to play it properly yet! 😌 so I lose the sense of what it sounds like and i lost interest.

lol, i like singing low just to bugg my choir master.... it's funny to see the guy's faces tho, when i can sing lower than them 😄
hey, some of them can sing higher than me ok?

ah, yeah that's relly cool.. the room in our hous where our piano is has a realy high roof an a wooden floor, so the acoustics are really good... i only play it when noone else is around... and it's really great ^.^

ahh... naff....
well... mine hooks up to my computer so... it would kinda be silly if it didn't ^^;
had it for years... never really got round to really figuring everything out tho....

see, i prefer :09:manga:09: than anime.. the original arts by the original author is so better! manga is so cool, the pics, the cenaries.. anime too, but i think it is kinda different to watch an anime and to read a manga.. manga is better.. but it is my oppinion..

you should take a look at the Blade of the Immortal, series, its quite differently drawn from the more common manga, quite a bit more "sketchy"

Ever read 'Alichino'? I swear, the manga's worth reading if it's just to drool at the art.

Alichino's art is gothic and intensely detailed. I guarantee it'll take your breath away.

In my opinion, Tokyo Pop, killed the front pages of the manga.

Here's a sample of what the manga's art is like. (And the mangaka doesn't slack off. The ENTIRE manga is that detailed.)
