Maybe It Won't Be Long ?

When I got to the repair shop today, they had just finished fixing the last job they had. I may get my system back in a few days if it has no major problems. It'll be nice to get off the laptop.

Back-up !!!! It Pays To I Guess !!

What I hoped would be an easy virus fix turned out to be a worse nightmare.The shop called today and said my hard drive had crashed and burned; unless I want to pay several hundred dollars and send it away for a few weeks, all is lost. I haven't bothered to do a back up for over a year, so 2005 is a total loss. I had about 50 GB of info , pictures, favorite sites, E-Mail addresses, which I will write off and start over. I guess I will mark on my calendar to do a back-up every 60 days from now on. The big surprise was the drive is only 2 years old and gave NO WARNING there was a problem, just boom, gonzo?
SO, I guess this can be a lesson for all of you to think about backing up things you don't want to lose, you never know!

well sometimes they crash and just wont run windows anymore but you can still use them as slave drives to pull files off, least ive been able to do that a time or two before...

I just got done telling my wife I was going to try the same thing. The other (crazy) idea is I have two identical drives; maybe take them apart and switch platters? I sure hate losing all that hard collected data!

i wouldnt go so far as to take them apart, but if all else fails...

also i wouldnt leave the crashed drive in the system after pulling the files off. it can still crash the system and may do the same to your new hdd.

My condolences ... "bin there ... dun that"! And you're quite right ... no warning for me either ! (About eighteen months ago.)

... and your advice is well taken - but make it 7/14 days at most for a back-up!

Glad you're back on, there, Frank !! This'll be something I will keep my eye on too. And a lesson has been learned, since, as you know, I am really not on top of things regarding these systems--soft and hard !!
