Hello all,
I'm writing a Japanese paper about women in the Heian period , and am having some troubles finding some Japanese structures and vocabulary. I was hoping some of you would be able to help me. I'm not done doublechecking my paper yet, so more problems will probably follow later. I don't know if I'm allowed to ask for proofreading here either, but if someone would be willing to skim the finished product, I'd be eternally grateful. ^^
Now, some problems:
1. I wanted to write a sentence about the following: when the Heian woman wanted to go outside, she did so in a fully enclosed ox drawn carriage with her ladies in waiting, with small windows out which she hang her colourful sleeves. Of course, it doesn't need to be the same sentence, but the content needs to be the same. So far, I have: 女は外に行たい時、いつも牛車で局と一緒野遊びを出掛 けました as my first sentence (can tai be coupled to a toki?). For the sleeves out window bit I was planning on using 窓にカラフルなスリーブを掲げた. However, I'm having the most troubles with the enclosed part. How do I best describe a fully closed/enclosed carriage?
2. 結婚は, 天皇の天恩を受けた, 一番重要な方法でした. I have the feeling's something's off about this sentence, but I can't pinpoint what exactly. I'm willing to say: Marriage was the best/easiest way to gain the Emperor's favour/support.
3. それぞれの女に時間を掛けたから、女が五人と結婚する はとても難しかった。 Note: 男 is the subject in the sentence before this one, and is thus left away in this one. I'm trying to say "Because (the man) had to spend time with all wives, it was very hard to have a marriage with 5 women." If you hadn't guessed yet, this part is about polygamy. I know this isn't correct either, so help?
More questions coming soon - it's 3 am, and I'm off to bed now.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me - it's highly appreciated. ^^
